Line of Duty star admits she's not allowed to return to the BBC series
Line of Duty star Anna Maxwell Martin has ruled out the possibility of her returning for any future series of the hit BBC police drama. Since fans found out the identity of crime boss H in the highly-anticipated 2021 finale, they've been crying out for AC-12 to make their return to BBC One.
Earlier this year, star Christina Chong revealed that the cast had been asked about their availability for later in the year - seemingly confirming that the show will return after four years away.
However, there's one particular star who won't be reprising their role. Anna Maxwell Martin took on the role of hard-nosed anti-corruption officer Patricia Carmichael for series five and six, with the character becoming the interim leader of AC-12 when Superintendent Ted Hastings is suspended.
At the BAFTA TV Awards last night, Anna revealed that there's no chance of her coming back to the show for a reason that is set to disappoint fans. "Sometimes you're not allowed to revise certain roles due to contracts with other streamers," she explained to the BBC.
Earlier this year, Line of Duty's Martin Compston spoke out about the show returning for a seventh series. He told The Sun 's TV Mag: "We're always talking about possibilities and schedules and whatnot.
"Everybody's got stuff going on at the minute, so I think anything, unfortunately, would be a way off.
"Because we're all so close and we all want the best for the show, we wouldn't do it again just for the sake of it. If it was just about doing it for the sake of it, we'd have probably done another three series by now.
"We really care about the quality of it. So if we come back, it would be for the right reasons."
While last month, it was reported that filming on the show will begin in January 2026 after the cast were finally able to clear space in their calendars to commit to make the show.
"The BBC almost immediately requested more episodes to continue the story, but the success of the show meant Vicky, Martin and Adrian were instantly snapped up for other projects," a source told The Sun.
Line of Duty's sixth series followed anti-corruption team Kate Fleming, Steve Arnott and Ted Hastings as they finally tracked down H - with the bent copper controversially being revealed as bumbling cop Ian Buckells (Nigel Boyle).

BBC shares major update on Doctor Who future amid hiatus
Doctor Who will return with or without the extra funding from Disney, the BBC has now confirmed whilst the series is on hiatus following the departure of Ncuti Gatwa Doctor Who will return with or without the extra funding from Disney, BBC bosses confirmed yesterday. The sci-fi show is currently on a hiatus following the end of the two-year deal with Disney, which culminated with the departure of Ncuti Gatwa in the title role. Crushing rumours that the show would not return if Disney's huge cash injection did not return, the BBC's new head of content Kate Phillips said: "Rest assured Doctor Who is going nowhere. Disney has been a great partnership and it continues with The War Between The Land And The Sea next year." Speaking at the Edinburgh TV Festival Kate, who is just two months into her job, stressed: 'With or without Disney, Doctor Who will still be on the BBC." The uncertainty around the series has been caused by Disney's continuing reluctance to commit to either renewing its funding deal with the BBC - or pull out. But show creator Russell T Davies has indicated he's already working on scripts for the next series, and also for another one after that. Later in the session, the BBC's drama controller Lindsay Salt said she had 'no update' in terms of timings " on Doctor Who but said that information would be made public as soon as it was possible. Agreeing with Kate, she said the BBC commitment to Doctor Who as one of its biggest brands was water-tight, adding that the show was "hugely important to us"." Now Doctor Who fans have the spin-off show, The War Between the Land and the Sea, which expected to start around Christmas. Disney reportedly injected around £100million into Doctor Who, which gave a a significant boost to the show's production budget, allowing for CGI use of dinosaurs and other stunts. There is still a chance that the deal will be renewed, or that BBC Studios will find another partner to join forces with. In the session about the BBC, Kate also said the corporation 'acted fast' after misconduct allegations against former MasterChef presenter Gregg Wallace. And she urged anyone who felt they had grievances to air against top talent to come forward, stressing that they would be taken seriously. 'No one is irreplaceable,' she said. On MasterChef, she said she'd acted on the information she'd had in 2019. 'So there were two complaints. I dealt with them. I acted on them fast. I think I acted responsibly. I left him in no doubt of the expected behaviour that we expect at the BBC, if you like. I stand by the actions I took at the time with the knowledge that I had. Other allegations didn't come to us until much later, sort of at the end of 2023, and at that point we did act, and we acted fast.' Wallace was dropped from the series after multiple claims of inappropriate language and behaviour against him were upheld. Later his co-host John Torode was also dismissed after a complaint over his 'racist language' was upheld.

Inside Millie Bobby Brown and Jake Bongiovi's marriage as they announce adoption
Millie Bobby Brown shocked fans with the announcement that she and husband Jake Bongiovi have adopted a baby girl. The Stranger Things star, 21, shared the news in a joint post on social media with her husband Jake, 23. 'This summer, we welcomed our sweet baby girl through adoption,' she began. 'We are beyond excited to embark on this beautiful next chapter of parenthood in both peace and privacy.' She concluded: 'And then there were 3. Love Millie and Jake Bongiovi.' Millie and Jake – the son of rocker Jon Bon Jovi – tied the knot last May, a year after their engagement. Now, as they start their family, here's everything we know about the young couple's whirlwind relationship. The pair first sparked romance rumors in June 2021 when Bongiovi posted a photo of the two on Instagram, writing, 'bff <3.' They were spotted walking around New York City hand-in-hand later that month before making things Instagram official in November with a blurry photo taken on the London Eye. After that, they were pretty inseparable and Jake has even joined Millie at several high-profile red carpet events, including the Baftas, Stranger Things season 4 launch party, and the premiere of Enola Holmes 2 in October. During a November 2022 interview with WIRED, the actress shared how she met her man. 'We met on Instagram,' she said. 'And we were friends for a bit, and then, what can I say?' The pair got engaged in April 2023 with Millie announcing the news by posting a photo on Instagram captioned with lyrics from Taylor Swift's Lover, writing, 'I've loved you three summers now, honey, I want 'em all 🤍.' In August 2023, Brown shared the details of the proposal with The Sunday Times, including that he proposed with one of her mother's rings: 'I've always loved that ring, it's always stuck out to me, so she gave it to Jake. They were in cahoots about the whole proposal,' she said. 'I love that I can always keep a piece of my mum with me.' The pair then privately tied the knot in 2024 at a ceremony that was reportedly a small affair with only friends and family in attendance. 'Millie and Jake quietly said their vows in America last weekend,' a source close to the couple told The Sun. 'They are planning a bigger ceremony in the US later this year but now they have legally married and done all the paperwork.' After the pair's marriage was rumoured, Jon Bon Jovi was asked about the suspected nuptials and how the happy couple is doing. 'It was a very small family wedding and the bride looked gorgeous, and Jake is happy as can be. Yeah, it's true.' When the engagement was first announced, Millie shared with WWD: 'I think probably drawing the curtains, just because there are only so many moments in life that you get only once. 'And to have everyone's opinions and eyes looking at that just feels unnatural to me. So I feel it's important to keep those things, those small precious moments in life, really close to your chest.' Millie has been very open about her desire to be a mother in the past. More Trending During a March 2025 appearance on the Smartless podcast, Millie shared that although she is 'really young,' starting a family is 'definitely in [her] future.' 'My mom actually had her first child at 21, and my dad was 19. And you know, it's been my thing since before I met Jake,' she said. 'Since I was a baby, I told my mom, like, baby dolls. I wanted to be a mom just like the way my mom was to me.' She added, 'Jake knows how important it is to me and, of course, I want to focus on really establishing myself as an actor and as a producer, but I also find it's so important to start a family for me, personally.'
