IndiGo urged to launch international connectivity
Vijayawada: A team from IndiGo Airlines, led by its Associate Director – Sales (South India) Saurabh Sachdeva, called on the office-bearers of Andhra Pradesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry Federation (AP Chambers) at AP Chambers Office here on Thursday. AP Chambers' team, led by its president Potluri Bhaskara Rao, briefed the IndiGo team on the potential of Vijayawada region and opportunities available for IndiGo in Vijayawada region. Bhaskara Rao thanked IndiGo for launching Vijayawada-Kurnool direct flight. He requested the airline to introduce more direct international connectivity from Vijayawada. One person at least from almost every family in the State is an NRI, he pointed out. According to estimates, there are around five lakh NRIs in the catchment area of Vijayawada.
Many family members, parents, and a huge student population are migrating to various countries. The region has a huge potential for more international connectivity to Dubai, Singapore, and other destinations. Before the pandemic, IndiGo operated a direct flight from Vijayawada to Singapore with more than 80 percent occupancy. Besides Amaravati capital city construction works, industrial activity has picked up a lot in the region. With this, the demand for more international connectivity has increased. In the past few months, Vijayawada airport has witnessed 30,000 to 40,000 increases in air passenger traffic. Hence, AP Chambers requests IndiGo to operate direct flights between Vijayawada-Dubai and Vijayawada-Singapore. 'Most of the aircrafts that IndiGo operates from Vijayawada are small aircrafts.
We request the airline to operate large aircrafts such as Airbus or Boeing as bigger aircrafts have the capacity to carry 2 to 3 tonnes of belly cargo. IndiGo may start direct flights between Vijayawada-Varanasi, between Vijayawada-Ahmedabad or Surat and between Vijayawada-Kolkata via Visakhapatnam.' IndiGo is requested to explore code-sharing agreements with international flights for flights operating from Vijayawada. IndiGo has code-sharing agreements with international airlines operating from many cities in India. However, IndiGo does not have code-sharing agreements with international airlines for its flights operating from Vijayawada. Code-sharing will help air travellers with seamless booking experience, efficient baggage transfers, and better connectivity to major international destinations. Airbus, the European aerospace leader, and Tata Advanced Systems (TASL), the aerospace arm of the Tata Group, plan to set up a Final Assembly Line (FAL) for H125 helicopters in Kolar, Karnataka. According to a report by The Times of India, the facility will produce Airbus' popular H125 civil helicopter for both the Indian and regional markets, making it the fourth such assembly line worldwide, following those in France, the US, and Brazil. The new plant will initially manufacture 10 H125 civil helicopters annually. Based on Airbus' projection that around 500 light helicopters will be needed in this sector over the next 20 years, the facility is expected to expand in the future. Guillaume Faury is the CEO of the German aerospace corporation Airbus SE and also serves as the Chairman of its commercial aircraft division, Airbus SAS. According to the media reports, the plant will be set up in the Vemagal Industrial Area, about two hours from Bengaluru, where Tata is already engaged in other aerospace activities, including satellite manufacturing. The facility will include capabilities for aircraft manufacturing, final assembly, and MRO (Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul) services. The report mentioned that Andhra Pradesh's Anantapur, where Kia Motors has its factory, was also a contender for the project. However, Karnataka bagged the deal owing to its robust supply chain network, readily available skilled workforce, and the pro-investment policies of the state government. TASL has secured 740,000 square feet of space in Karnataka's Vemagal Industrial Area to set up facilities for aircraft manufacturing, final assembly, and maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) operations. Under Karnataka's Aerospace and Defence Policy, the project will receive benefits such as land subsidies, capital investment support, exemption from stamp duty, concessions on electricity bills, and production-linked incentives of up to 1% of turnover for a period of five years.

Indian airline operators IndiGo, Air India, and SpiceJet announced on Saturday, May 31, that flight operations from the Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi are likely to be affected amid IMD's forecast for rain and moderate winds in the region. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Delhi and a few other states have been issued an Orange Alert warning of heavy rainfall and the possibility of thunderstorms in the upcoming days. IndiGo cited moderate winds and rainfall in Delhi for any potential delays in flight operations from Delhi Airport on Saturday, 31 May 2025. Light showers and moderate winds are expected through the day, and while they're perfect for a hot chai, they might slow down your drive to the airport,' said the airline. IndiGo also issued another advisory on Saturday, warning travellers of a 'slight delay' in flight operations on the nation's East coast due to persistent rainfall and thunderstorms. Silchar, Aizawl and Shillong are the primary areas where the flight operations are expected to be disrupted on Saturday. '#6ETravelAdvisory: As monsoon showers sweep across the eastern coast, intermittent heavy rains may cause slight delays in flight operations,' said IndiGo in an announcement on platform X. Air India also informed its passengers through a social media post on platform X that flight operations from Delhi are likely to be impacted by rain and thunderstorms in the region. They also advised people to keep some extra time allotted while travelling to the airport due to traffic situations. 'Rain and thunderstorms may impact flights to/from Delhi this evening. Please check your flight status and allow extra travel time,' said Air India in its post. SpiceJet also announced that due to the bad weather in Delhi on Saturday, all departures and arrivals from the Delhi airport are set to be affected. The company recommended travellers to check their flight status from the official website. '#WeatherUpdate: Due to bad weather in Delhi (DEL), all departures/arrivals and their consequential flights may get affected. Passengers are requested to keep a check on their flight status,' said the airline company in its social media post.

IndiGo announces direct flight from Adampur to Mumbai
