Kansas baseball coach Dan Fitzgerald met with reporters on Monday, May 26, 2025 after the Jayhawks were accorded a No. 2 seed in the NCAA regionals. The Kansas Jayhawks baseball team is headed to the NCAA tournament for the first time since 2014. Third-year coach Dan Fitzgerald's KU team finished as runner-up to West Virginia during the Big 12 regular season and lost in the semifinals of the conference's postseason tournament. On Monday the Jayhawks were assigned to a four-team regional in Arkansas as a No. 2 seed among the national field of 64. Advertisement KU will meet No. 3 seed Creighton (41-14) in a first-round regional contest at 7 p.m. Friday at Baum-Walker Field in Fayetteville, Ark. The other two teams in the double-elimination regional event are No. 1 seed Arkansas and North Dakota State. The Bison went 20-32 this season, winning the Summit League title. The Razorbacks (43-13) finished second in the SEC behind Texas. They're rated fifth in the latest Division I baseball rankings and hold the same spot in RPI. Creighton's Bluejays (41-14) are coming off a Big East tournament championship and have won seven games in a row. KU is ranked No. 25 nationally and No. 24 in the RPI. The regionals will start Friday and Saturday and run through Monday, June 2, with the winners meeting in best-of-three NCAA Super Regionals the following week. To be a 2 seed in the NCAA Tournament in year three and lead the Big 12 in wins, if someone told me that I would have taken it all day long and more. Seven-run second lifts ORU past Jackrabbits
OMAHA, Neb. (SDSU) — Top-seeded Oral Roberts scored seven times in the bottom of the second inning and never looked back in an 11-2 victory over South Dakota State in the opening round of the Summit League Baseball Championship Wednesday afternoon at Tal Anderson Field. The Golden Eagles improved to 35-20 overall and will face the winner between Wednesday's late game between North Dakota State and Omaha at 6 p.m. Thursday. SDSU dropped to 16-35 on the season and will face the NDSU-Omaha loser in an elimination game at noon Thursday. ORU sent 11 batters to the plate in the second inning. Makani Tanaka started the outburst with a base hit off Jackrabbit starter Arlen Peters, which was followed by an error. Owen Coil doubled in the first two runs of the frame and Wailele Kane-Yates capped the rally with a three-run home run to left field. The other runs scored on a bases-loaded walk to Will Edmunson and a sacrifice fly off the bat of Cooper Combs. Ty Madison followed with 2 2/3 scoreless innings of relief for the Jackrabbits before the Golden Eagles added three more runs in the fifth — two of which were unearned — and a run on four walks in the seventh inning to build an 11-0 advantage. Meanwhile, ORU starter Easton Teel kept the Jackrabbits scoreless through the first seven innings and did not allow more than one baserunner in any of those innings. The right-hander struck out three and walked one batter. The Jackrabbits ended Teel's shutout bid with a pair of runs in the top of the eighth. Jess Bellows and Nic Werk singled around a walk to Davis Carr to load the bases. West Virginia commit Treysen Eaglestaff withdraws from 2025 NBA draft North Dakota junior transfer Treysen Eaglestaff will reportedly withdraw from the 2025 NBA draft and return to school next season, according to Jeff Goodman of The Field of 68. Eaglestaff was named to the All-Summit League second team this past season, averaging 18.9 points, 2.8 rebounds, 2.4 assists and 1.1 steals on 35.9% shooting from 3-point range. He ranked second in the conference in points (623) and third in 3s (84). The 6-foot-6 guard set a Summit League tournament record with 51 points on March 7 in a win over South Dakota State. He was the first player to score at least 50 points in a game since Houston Baptist guard Darius Lee had 52 points on March 5, 2022. Eaglestaff entered the transfer portal last month while also declaring for the draft. He was among the 106 players who filed as early entry candidates for the draft and attended one team workout with the Portland Trail Blazers earlier this month. He initially committed to South Carolina after a brief time in the portal. He eventually changed course and opted to play for new coach Ross Hodge and West Virginia after three years with the Fighting Hawks, a pact that was announced on April 22. Eaglestaff will now be able to move to the Big 12 and continue his career. He projects to be a key addition for the Mountaineers as they begin a new era under Hodge.
