Austin Butler has showed off his buff transformation on the cover of Men's Health.
The US actor, 34, told the magazine about his string of worrying health concerns after dedicating three years to embodying Elvis Presley for Baz Luhrmann's 2022 epic, including a hospitalisation for appendicitis-like pain and a moment of temporary blindness while on-board a plane in which he 'genuinely thought I was dying.'
Butler, who won a Golden Globe for the dazzling film, said he embarked on a health journey in the aftermath to better care for his mind and body, upping his training schedule, cramming more calories into his diet and focusing on his mental wellbeing.
During Elvis ' awards season, Butler weighed just 68kg when he began meeting with Darren Aronofsky, who produces and directs the actor's upcoming film, Caught Stealing.
Within six months, he'd put on 11kg.
'For a long time, I felt that it [preparing for a role] had to be a tortured process, and I would come out the other side broken,' he told the outlet.
'Rather than just putting parts of yourself away and trying to pretend that they don't exist, it's like going into the gross bits of yourself — going into the bits that you don't want to look at — and finding a way of integrating that into the whole.'
For Caught Stealing, a crime thriller, Butler plays Henry 'Hank' Thompson, a former baseball player who becomes engulfed in the criminal underworld of New York.
Butler was trained by Beth Lewis, who was also responsible for getting Australian actor Hugh Jackman in shape for Deadpool & Wolverine.
Lewis took to Instagram with a video of Butler's intense workouts in the gym, saying it was a 'highlight to watch the change in his body and mindset.'
'He got SUPER freaking strong in the process,' Lewis wrote.
'The first clops were from March 2024. By September, he was crushing it!'
While his filming schedule is more packed than ever, with a staggering eight projects currently in pre and post production, Butler told the outlet he's found a happy place with work where it's not so all-consuming.
He said he learned handy tools from The Bikeriders co-star Tom Hardy, the latter of whom managed to sleep soundly at night by going home from set, putting on a weighted vest and doing 1,000 box jumps.
'I'm just trying to find little things like that,' Butler said, adding it was often 'the mundane little things' that helped, including a moment of peace in the sun on his balcony or phoning a friend.

Tiffani Thiessen, 51, ditches clothes while eating cake in steamy video: ‘Ageing like fine wine'

Tiffani Thiessen ditched her clothes while eating a carrot cake in a steamy new video. The completely nude 51-year-old actress enjoyed a bite of the cake as she asked her followers, 'How do you eat it?' in the Instagram Reel posted Monday. 'When it's hot out, you gotta get naked … #nakedcarrotcake. Recipe in the comments if you wanna get naked too,' she captioned the post. Fans took to the comments to compliment the Saved by the Bell star on how good she looks. 'Did Tiffani just De-age again? Looks like she Turned the clock back another 10 years must be the cake,' one fan gushed. 'Still ageing like fine wine omg,' another added. Other fans raved about how the actress is still their crush even decades after her days on the iconic sitcom. 'I mean …. You clearly know what you're doing to any male who grew up in the 90s,' one fan quipped. 'Getting thirst trapped by my 90s tv crush was not on my 2025 bingo card but here we are,' another wrote. 'Kelly 'The Killer' Kapowski still slaying after all these years!' This isn't the brunette beauty's first Instagram thirst trap, though. She posted a sultry snap of herself wearing nothing but a bedsheet for her 50th birthday in January 2024. 'Over the hill. #thisis50,' the Beverly Hills, 90210 star captioned the seductive post, garnering birthday wishes and compliments from fans in the comments. The '90s icon is also a huge advocate for ageing naturally, which can be a rarity in Hollywood. 'I like my laugh lines,' she told Page Six Style exclusively in a September 2023 interview. 'And I call them laugh lines and happy lines because that's what they are, you know? And I also cried a lot, too. So they probably were created for that, too. But that's life.' 'And I earned them,' she added. Thiessen also told us that she wants to 'lead by example' for her daughter, Harper, when it comes to embracing the effects of ageing, despite feeling the pressure to get work done. 'I have a teenage daughter, I don't want her to see that I'm scared [about] turning 50 and that I need to change my face or anything.' The Alexis & Katie star shares Harper and son Holt with husband Brady Smith. The couple have been married since 2005. When it comes to maintaining her stunning looks, the author attributes it to 'just not giving a sh*t.' 'Yes, I think people will say things, you know … and maybe expect me to look a certain way, yes, but I mean, it's just not realistic,' she told celebrity nutritionist Shira Barlow on her Good Instincts podcast in 2023. 'I can only age the way I'm going to age, right?' Thiessen revealed that she cares mostly about doing what she can to 'be around as long as possible' for her husband, kids and eventually grandkids. 'All those things that are much more important to me now,' she concluded.
