8th Pay Commission: Govt Receives Inputs From Stakeholders, Notification Coming Soon
After an unexpected delay in the constitution of the 8th Pay Commission since the announcement in January 2025, the Central government had geared up to expedite the process by taking consultations with key stakeholders including states, the Ministry of Defence, the Ministry of Home Affairs, and the Department of Personnel and Training, as informed by the Finance Ministry in the Parliament on Monday.
He added that the chairperson and members of the 8th CPC will be appointed once the commission is formally notified by the government.
Every 10 year the government revises the basic salary of its employees and pensions of pensioners in align with the rising cost of living and other expenses.
More than six months after the Centre announced the formation of the 8th Central Pay Commission (CPC), there has been little to no progress on the ground. The expected timeline is now slipping, raising concerns among central government employees and officials alike.
The 7th Pay Commission was implemented in 2016, with revisions effective from January 1 that year. As per the 10-year cycle, the 8th CPC was expected in 2024–25, but delays have sparked concern among government staff and pensioners amid rising inflation.
This commission is set to guide future pay revisions for millions of central government employees and pensioners.

Calcutta Stock Exchange awaits Sebi decision on voluntary exit
1 2 Kolkata: Calcutta Stock Exchange (CSE) is waiting for a formal death sentence from market regulator Sebi. Established in 1908, CSE is the second oldest in India after BSE and one of the oldest stock exchanges in Asia. Union minister of state for finance Pankaj Chaudhary , during a reply in RS on Tuesday, said Sebi was examining a proposal from CSE for voluntary exit as an exchange. This means CSE would cease to exist as a stock exchange once the die is cast by Sebi. Chaudhary, replying to a question by Bengal BJP MP Samik Bhattacharya, said: "On Feb 18, 2025, CSE submitted a proposal for voluntary exit as a stock exchange under Sebi-prescribed Exit Policy for Stock Exchanges. The proposal is currently under examination." It had tried to float a clearing corporation to remain as a stock exchange and, for this, it wanted to sell a land parcel off EM Bypass for Rs 253 crore. But it did not get the requisite approvals. Incidentally, at one point in time between 1997 and 2000, CSE's daily turnover used to surpass BSE's on many days. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Villas For Sale in Dubai Might Surprise You Villas in Dubai | Search Ads Get Info Undo "We can recount many such days when CSE's volume was only second to NSE's," said a former broker of CSE who is now enlisted in NSE. According to old-timers in CSE, the exchange used to clock an average daily volume of Rs 1,000 crore until mid-2001. "In one day in 2000, CSE booked a volume of Rs 2,000 crore," said a broker. The number of listed companies in CSE until 2005 was more than 4,000, which at that point was more than NSE's and almost equal to BSE's. Trading has been closed in CSE since 2013. The trading volume for the last financial year, 2012-13, was Rs 9,500 crore. Sebi, in view of non-compliance by CSE over applicable regulatory requirements and its exit circular dated May 30, 2012, initiated compulsory exit proceedings against the exchange in May 2015, Chaudhary added. In response, CSE filed writ petitions in Calcutta High Court challenging Sebi's action. "After a prolonged litigation, the Calcutta HC, by its order dated Feb 19, 2024, granted CSE a period of six months to either establish a clearing corporation or tie up with an existing one, in compliance with the Securities Contracts (regulation) (stock exchanges and clearing corporations) Regulations, 2018, failing which Sebi would be free to proceed in accordance with law," he added.

No proposal to stop ₹500 notes, ATMs to dispense more lower denominations: MoS Finance Pankaj Chaudhary
The government has no plans to discontinue the supply of ₹ 500 denomination banknotes and ATMs will continue to disburse ₹ 500 alongside ₹ 100 or ₹ 200 notes, Minister of State for Finance Pankaj Chaudhary informed Parliament on Tuesday. Additionally, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) in a circular titled 'Dispensation of ₹ 100 and ₹ 200 denomination banknotes through ATMs' issued on April 28, 2025, directed banks and ATM operators to ensure their machines are regularly disbursing ₹ 100 and ₹ 200 notes. In a written response to the Rajya Sabha, the minister said that the RBI has directed the disbursal of more lower denomination notes to enhance public access to frequently used denominations of banknotes. He also mentioned the timeline set by the RBI for this initiative: By September 30, 2025, 75 per cent of all ATMs would dispense either ₹ 100 or ₹ 200 denomination banknotes from at least one cassette. 100 or 200 denomination banknotes from at least one cassette. During the last financial year, Sebi received ₹ 949.43 crore from disgorgement, which refers to the act of legally binding a person or entity to surrender any illegal gains obtained through unethical practices in the securities market. "Fraud and cheating are punishable offences as per Indian laws. Affordable housing needs collaboration between Centre and State, say panellists
The State and Central governments must collaborate and work together for providing affordable housing, and address issues of equity and financial inclusion. This was one of the major insights shared at the discussion on 'Affordable Housing: Bridging the Urban Housing Gap' organised as part of The Hindu Tamil Nadu Real Estate Summit 2025 in the city on Tuesday. The topics deliberated include the need for inclusive housing, challenges faced by private developers, and the role of the government in providing affordable housing. Noting that housing for marginalised communities cannot be ensured with a one-size-fits-all approach, cannot be done in a one-size-fits-all approach, Vanessa Peter, founder, Information and Resource Centre for the Deprived Urban Communities, said basic requirements should be met without compromising on traditional livelihood spaces. Underlining the challenges in ensuring affordable housing for socially disadvantaged people, she said communities must be consulted before designing houses, and a robust third-party quality monitoring mechanism put in place to reduce design flaws. Speakers also stressed the affordability of housing for urban poor population under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) by waiver of beneficiary contribution to some extent. When asked whether incremental housing would be developed in satellite townships, A. Srivathsan, professor, Head of the Centre for Research on Architecture and Urbanism at CEPT University, said Arumbakkam Sites and Services Scheme was one of the best examples for incremental housing. The area has turned beyond recognition over a generation as people have become economically strong. However, such housing is only possible with design and legal modifications, given land cost limitations. Pointing out that housing for economically weaker sections is largely covered by the State, he said that land availability and construction cost were some of the challenges. Private players are more interested in promoting housing for higher income groups. Though developing a grid of roads would be ideal for structured housing development, people are often willing to suffer lack of infrastructure and focus on the land cost. Highlighting that inclusive housing was a critical component of equitable growth, R.V. Shekar, chairman and managing director (MD), Lancor Group, spoke on the need for creating an environment to collaborate with the Central government to develop integrated satellite townships at subsidised cost. A pilot project, with up to two lakh houses, could be planned near Chennai. P. Suresh, MD, Arun Excello Group, spoke on integrated township in Oragadam that aims at improving lifestyle. However, obtaining land parcel for developing such townships was a challenge. The government played a pivotal role in allotting land parcels to develop housing for communities. The Central government should consider restoring the benefits offered under the earlier version of the PMAY, and reduce taxes to resolve issues of affordable housing to low and middle income groups. ing.
