OLG says live horse race bets now available ahead of King's Plate

Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation players can now bet on live horse races across Ontario. Proline will be accepting bets for the Plate, which goes Saturday at Woodbine Racetrack. Bettors can access Woodbine Entertainment Group's horse racing wagering product through and the OLG app. OLG becomes the first Canadian provincial lottery and gaming agency to provide access to a horse racing wagering product to its digital players. Through WEG's product -- which is powered by HPIbet -- players on and the OLG app can bet on live races around the world and at Ontario tracks. Proline joins bet365 as the only operators in Ontario's regulated sports-betting market to include horse racing in its products. Cubs calling up top prospect OF Owen Caissie

The Cubs were set to officially call up Caissie from Triple-A Iowa before the game in Toronto, but manager Craig Counsell told reporters he wasn't sure if Caissie would arrive in time to play. 'I'd love to have him be in the lineup, but we're just gonna wait and see what his scheduled arrival time is,' Counsell told reporters a bit more than two hours prior to game time. If Caissie doesn't arrive to Toronto in time to play, his first MLB chance would have to wait until Friday, when the Cubs open a three-game home series with the Pittsburgh Pirates. MLB Pipeline ranks Caissie as the No. 45 overall prospect in baseball. On the season, he is hitting .289 with 100 hits, 26 doubles, two triples, 22 home runs and 52 RBIs in 93 games. Caissie, 23, was selected in the second round of the 2020 MLB Draft by the San Diego Padres. He is the highest-ranked Canadian outfielder ever drafted. With the 2020 minor league season canceled because of the pandemic, Caissie never played in the Padres organization. He was traded to the Cubs along with three other prospects and right-hander Zach Davies in the seven-player deal that sent right-hander Yu Davish and catcher Victor Caratini to the Padres in December 2020. If Caissie arrives in time for the game, he'll be playing in front of the home folks. He is from Burlington, Ont., about a 70-minute drive to Rogers Centre in Toronto. He is expected to take the roster spot of catcher Miguel Amaya, who was carted off the field with a sprained ankle in Chicago's 4-1 win over the Blue Jays on Wednesday.

Daulton Varsho reveals how Blue Jays teammate stole his jersey number
Daulton Varsho is known to rob opposing players of hits with his stellar play in the outfield, but it was the Gold Glover who fell victim to a bit of locker-room theft. Article content It wasn't a valuable possession that went missing this past spring, however. It was his jersey number. Article content Article content During an appearance on Wednesday's episode of the 6ix Inning Stretch podcast, Varsho shared the story between his impromptu number switch from No. 25 – which he wore for his first two years in Toronto – to No. 5 this season and how it all went down. Article content Article content Varsho told co-hosts Lindsay Dunn and Whit Merrifield – a former Blue Jays all-star – that Anthony Santander surprised him with the news on the day of the slugger's introductory press conference, after having assured him the day before that every was cool. Article content Article content 'He came up to me and was like, 'Hey, like I'm not going to take 25, I'm going to take this number,'' Varsho said, adding that he told Santander, 'If you want it, like you can take it, but obviously we'll figure out something for it.' Article content Article content Article content However, it turned out that Santander was pretty quick to change his mind. Article content Article content 'The next day, he had his press conference, he's like, 'Hey, I'm taking your number.' I was like, 'Oh … OK,'' Varsho explained. 'The clubhouse manager, he's like, 'Hey, we need to figure out what your number is, Tony's going to take 25.'' Article content Caught off guard by the situation, Varsho told him, 'OK, like I guess I'll take No. 5.' Article content Varsho did share that Santander has been asking him since then what the outfielder would like in return for the number. Article content 'He got me something the week before I got back (from injury). He was down in Florida, and he said he got me something,' Varsho said. 'I don't know what it is yet, but we'll see.' Article content Merrifield then joked about what he would have given the native of Marshfield, Wisc., in return for the digits. Article content 'If that was me, I'd have got you either a big wheel of cheese or I'd have bought you, because the (Green Bay) Packers are a publicly traded company … you'd have been a part-owner of the Packers. Article content 'Give me Tony's number. I'll tell him to buy you some shares of the Packers.' Article content While many players are very superstitious about their jersey numbers, the switch seems to be working out well for Varsho.
