After their promising start to the Betway Premiership season, which saw Kaizer Chiefs secure two victories in their opening games, the team has enjoyed a few days of tranquillity ahead of Tuesday's game against winless visitors Richards Bay.
Two Premiership rounds in, the team's triumphs and clean sheets have also fostered a sense of calm within the squad as they gear up for their upcoming encounter. Mzansi's most beloved football club, Chiefs frequently face sky-high expectations from their devoted fanbase.
The weight of these expectations can be burdensome, especially in moments of defeat. However, the recent victories have alleviated some of that pressure, inspiring confidence that could prove pivotal in their next fixture.
In the enforced absence of Nasreddine Nabi, assistant coaches Khalil Ben Youssef and Cédric Kaze have been steering the ship and keeping the side on the winning path. Chiefs now share the top of the league standings with Durban City, Marumo Gallants and Sekhukhune United, all on six points from two outings.
Kaze praised the team's resilience and tactical acumen. The wins have highlighted their potential, allowing the players to build chemistry and momentum early in the season.
Kaze will undoubtedly be looking to maintain this positive trajectory as his squad prepares to take on the 'Natal Rich Boyz', who are still searching for their first points of the campaign.
History often shows that when anticipating a game against lower-ranked teams, complacency can become a silent foe. However, with a squad rich in talent and experience, Chiefs are expected to approach the match with the seriousness it deserves.

"It's true that, especially when you are at big clubs like Kaizer Chiefs, it gives you time to work in peace, because when you don't win, then there is a lot of pressure,' Kaze explained.
'That's why those points, those victories, give you time to work more easily, in an easier way because people are confident, people are happy.'
Despite the positive start, Kaze was quick to temper enthusiasm, reminding fans and players that the season is still in its infancy.
'We need, as well, to know that we haven't arrived and we're still very, very far. We have to work very hard,' he said, stressing the importance of maintaining focus and dedication.
'I'm pretty sure that if everyone is pulling in the same direction, we will get it right.'
Chiefs will look to build on their early momentum, and the match against Richards Bay presents an opportunity to solidify their position at the top of the league table.
All eyes will also turn to Orlando Stadium on Wednesday, when Orlando Pirates take on a formidable opponent known for their knack of causing upsets, Stellenbosch FC. Historically, Stellenbosch have posed a significant threat to the Buccaneers on their home turf.
Both teams come into this midweek clash after competing in the weekend's MTN8 semi-finals. The coaches of both sides now face a crucial dilemma: field their strongest eleven in pursuit of Premiership points, or rotate their squads to preserve energy for the important MTN8 semi-final second legs on Saturday.
Under pressure to perform well in front of their home fans, Pirates will be eager to assert dominance and banish any lingering doubts from previous encounters with Stellenbosch.

Tell-tale signs show Sundowns have lost their grip in the domestic arena after Pirates draw

Photo: Itumeleng English Independent Newspapers Image: Itumeleng English Independent Newspapers Comment The MTN8 semi-final first leg between Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns certainly lived up to its billing, as a packed Orlando Stadium erupted in a thrilling contest that ended in a 1-all draw on Saturday. However, many analysts have labelled the match a "game of two halves," highlighting a shift in momentum that epitomised the contrasting fortunes of both clubs throughout the encounter. Historically, Sundowns have asserted their dominance in South African football with unmatched consistency, often winning the Premiership title by runaway margins in recent seasons. During this time, the campaigns had their fair share of turbulence, owing to various factors, including national team commitments and a demanding CAF Champions League schedule. These circumstances resulted in a team that, at times, appeared underprepared—a situation compounded by coaching changes and a lack of cohesion among players. In the lead-up to Saturday's match, Sundowns had displayed inconsistent form, starting strong with a 4-0 victory over Richards Bay, followed by a bewildering 1-1 draw against Chippa United, a side they were expected to dominate, casting shadows on their prowess. Although they managed a narrow victory against AmaZulu shortly after, concerns lingered about the team's overall performance and intent. The first half of Saturday's match saw Sundowns exerting control, dominating possession and creating multiple scoring opportunities. Yet, despite their aggressive approach, they could only find the net once. This underwhelming conversion rate ultimately proved costly as the match progressed, with Pirates growing more assertive. Notably, a late Pirates effort struck the woodwork, sparking roars of disappointment from the home crowd, who were on the brink of witnessing a dramatic turnaround. Video Player is loading. Advertisement Next Stay Close ✕ Ad loading As the final whistle approached, it was clear that Sundowns had lost much of their earlier momentum, allowing Pirates to exert immense pressure in the closing stages. Analysts will likely scrutinise whether this decline signals deeper issues within the team. On Saturday, Sundowns coach Miguel Cardoso admitted a lapse in concentration had caused his team to lose focus in the second half. For some time, there have been whispers about Sundowns' reliance on star player Lucas Ribeiro, who has now left the club. Observers have repeatedly noted the absence of the Brazilian's impactful play, a factor that could have weakened Sundowns. In a move that speaks volumes about his forward-thinking approach, Cardoso has chosen not to dwell on what was lost but to focus on the promise of his squad's emerging talent. One player who has caught Cardoso's eye is Arthur Sales, another Brazilian who has shown consistent improvement with each match. Sales has started to bring invigorated energy to the squad, earning recognition among fans and pundits alike. Cardoso expressed satisfaction with Sales' evolving performances, noting that the player's adaptability is vital as the team navigates this challenging phase. As Sundowns look ahead to their next fixtures, both coaching staff and players are aware that maintaining focus and building on the positive aspects of their game will be crucial. With Cardoso at the helm, there remains a firm belief that this squad, bolstered by fresh talents like Sales, has what it takes to turn the tide and reclaim its status as a formidable force in South African football.

Abdeslam Ouaddou insists Orlando Pirates will meet expectations after MTN8 semi-final first leg draw

Orlando Pirates' Deano Van Rooyen challenges Mamelodi Sundowns' Teboho Mokoena during their MTN8 semi-finals, first-leg, clash at Orlando Stadium on Saturday. | Photo: Itumeleng English Independent Newspapers Image: Itumeleng English Independent Newspapers Abdeslam Ouaddou says he knows what is expected of Orlando Pirates this season, which is why they will never give up until they meet those expectations. Pirates drew 1-1 with Mamelodi Sundowns in the MTN8 semi-final first leg on Saturday afternoon at Orlando Stadium in Soweto. Sundowns took the lead in the first half through Teboho Mokoena before Kamogelo Sebelele equalised late for the hosts. Before levelling matters, Pirates appeared headed for defeat — something that could have been disastrous for Ouaddou, possibly even costing him his job. The 46-year-old went into the match under pressure, having lost his first two Betway Premiership games despite beating Polokwane City in the MTN8 opener. Video Player is loading. Advertisement Next Stay Close ✕ Critics had questioned Ouaddou for chopping and changing his squad, favouring new signings instead of building on the foundation laid by his predecessor, José Riveiro. He reiterated after the match that he is fully aware of the expectations on him and his team. 'When you become a coach, you need passion and energy,' he said. 'You know that when you don't get results in such big games, you must expect pressure. I have been giving my best with the players and focusing on my job. "I know the task is not easy when you have many players. You have to find the right solution, and that's what we are trying to do. We have to believe in that. "We know there are a lot of expectations, and we want to bring happiness to our fans. We want to win games and bring the club back to where it deserves to be. That's what is expected of us as a team.' Ouaddou heeded fans' calls to reintegrate some of the old guard, starting Thalente Mbatha and Deano van Rooyen against Sundowns. Mbatha was influential, while van Rooyen struggled and gave away possession cheaply. When Ouaddou substituted both in the second half, the Ghost expressed their displeasure. However, Ouaddou's tactical switch, converting Sebelele into a full-back and deploying Oswin Appollis in an advanced role, paid dividends. 'In modern football, you can rotate players in many positions,' he explained. 'As a player, you have to be able to play in at least two positions. It's very important to give options to the coach. Mike Sebelele gave me this opportunity because I know he can be efficient. I was looking for someone to help us because we were losing 1-0.

Gabriel calls for killer instinct as Richards Bay brace for Chiefs test

Richards Bay coach Ronnie Gabriel has urged his side to convert possession into goals ahead of a tough trip to face in-form Kaizer Chiefs. Photo: Backpagepix Richards Bay coach Ronnie Gabriel has urged his side to sharpen up in front of goal as they prepare for a daunting Betway Premiership clash against in-form Kaizer Chiefs at the FNB Stadium next Tuesday. The Natal Rich Boyz have endured a stuttering start to the campaign, losing their opening two fixtures against Marumo Gallants and Golden Arrows. While performances have shown promise, Gabriel is concerned by his team's inability to turn dominance into points. Speaking after their narrow defeat to Abafana Bes'thende, the co-coach lamented wasted opportunities. 'We have to be more ruthless in attack when we have our opponents against the wall, because just look at how the match ended,' Gabriel said. 'In terms of the synergy in the team, we feel the telepathy between some of the players, and we can see that we are playing a good brand of football, we just need to start punishing the opposition.'
