OnePlus 13s India launch teased: Specs and expected price

India Today28-04-2025
OnePlus has officially teased the launch of the OnePlus 13s in India. The company shared the first look of the upcoming smartphone on X (formerly Twitter) as well as on its website, revealing key details about the design, colours, and a couple of its main specifications. While the exact launch date has not been announced yet, the teaser shows that the launch is happening soon. The OnePlus 13s is expected to be a rebranded version of the OnePlus 13T, which was launched in China earlier this month. advertisementThe teaser shared by the company shows the OnePlus 13s in two colour options — black and pink. The rear design features a dual camera setup, and the overall look is quite similar to the OnePlus 13T that recently made its debut in China. The names of the colour variants have not been revealed yet, but more information is expected closer to the launch. The OnePlus 13s will come with a 6.32-inch display, probably an LTPO AMOLED panel with a Full-HD+ resolution. It is also expected to support an adaptive refresh rate ranging from 1Hz to 120Hz, which should help deliver smooth visuals while saving battery life. The display is also expected to feature Oppo's Crystal Shield Glass for better protection against scratches and accidental drops.
OnePlus has also confirmed that the 13s will run on the latest Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset, which promises solid performance for gaming, multitasking, and everyday use. The phone will also come with a new Shortcut Key, replacing the traditional Alert Slider. This Shortcut Key can be customised to perform quick actions like switching sound profiles or launching apps.advertisementWhen it comes to the camera, the OnePlus 13s is expected to feature a 50-megapixel primary sensor along with a 50-megapixel 2x telephoto lens. There will not be an ultra-wide camera on this device. On the front, a 16-megapixel camera will handle selfies and video calls.Despite its compact size, the OnePlus 13s is expected to pack a large 6,260mAh silicon-carbon battery along with support for 80W fast charging. The device is also expected to come with an IP65 rating for dust and water resistance, along with an in-display fingerprint scanner.OnePlus 13s: Expected price and availabilityWhile the India price has not been officially announced, the OnePlus 13T was launched in China with a starting price of CNY 3,399 (roughly Rs 39,700). Based on the company's pricing patterns, the OnePlus 13s could be priced starting at around Rs 45,000 to 50,000 in India. This would place it slightly above the OnePlus 13R, which is currently available at a starting price of Rs 42,999, but below the OnePlus 13, which starts in India at Rs 69,999.If OnePlus manages to keep the price competitive, the 13s could appeal to buyers looking for a flagship experience in a smaller, easier-to-handle form factor. That said, how much this phone will eat into the sales of its siblings, on both sides of the price spectrum, remains to be seen. More details, including launch date and exact pricing, are expected to be announced in the coming weeks.

Startup IPOs deliver only 36% long-term return for investors: Report

Investors in initial public offerings (IPOs) of new-age tech companies have earned just 36% average returns, and only 32% of those who invested after listing have made gains, according to a report by advisory firm Client Associates. Titled The New-Age IPO Performance Analysis, the report examined 25 new-age tech IPOs launched between May 2020 and June 2025 across sectors including fintech, logistics, consumer internet, and software-as-a-service (SaaS). It assessed investor returns at three stages, pre-IPO, IPO, and post-IPO, using the BSE 500 as a benchmark. Mixed outcomes Startups like Ixigo and Zaggle delivered strong pre-IPO returns of 89.21% and 62.47%, respectively, while Ola Electric posted a 60.13% loss in the same phase. Overall, pre-IPO investments generated average returns of 43%, outperforming IPO and post-IPO investments. 'This assessment tells you that most prices have been driven by frenzy rather than business fundamentals,' said Shashank Agarwal, associate director at Client Associates. 'Unless you're an institutional investor, most retail investors chase market noise.' While companies such as Zomato and PolicyBazaar have fared better, others including Paytm, Ola Electric, and Mobikwik have significantly underperformed. The report argued that hype and narrative, rather than strong fundamentals, have driven most retail participation. IPO wave In 2024 alone, 13 new-age tech companies went public, raising close to Rs 29,070 crore. The list includes Swiggy, Go Digit, TBO Tek, Awfis, Ola Electric, FirstCry, Ixigo, and Unicommerce. The surge in tech-led IPOs has been fuelled by digital adoption, favourable demographics, and strong capital inflows, a shift from earlier IPO waves dominated by industrial and BFSI compounded annual growth rate (CAGR) of companies listed on the Bombay Stock Exchange rose 121% between September 2021 and May 2025, compared with just 37% for those listed on the National Stock Exchange. Investors in BSE-listed shares earned 84% more annually than those holding NSE's unlisted shares over the past four years. Agarwal said BSE's listed status gives investors confidence, while NSE's IPO delays and regulatory challenges have made investors more cautious. Despite this, retail investors are actively buying unlisted shares of market infrastructure firms such as NSE and the National Securities Depository Limited (NSDL), even though these are illiquid and hard to trade. Unlisted vs listed returns Over the last four years, NSE's unlisted shares have returned 37%, while listed rival BSE surged 194%. Similarly, NSDL's unlisted shares gained 35% compared with a 69% return from listed competitor CDSL. The report concluded that while pre-IPO investments in select new-age companies have delivered strong returns, the IPO and post-IPO phases have been far less rewarding for most retail investors. It cautioned that chasing hype without assessing business fundamentals exposes investors to significant downside risk.
