Kerry Katona says 'get me on Loose Women' in brutal swipe at ITV cuts
Kerry Katona has joked for Loose Women to enlist her as a panellist to add some 'spice' to the show amid ITV cuts which will see the long-running series on TV much less.
Kerry Katona has called for ITV to bring her onto daytime show Loose Women amid cuts across the channel, with the long-running show being cut back to a 'seasonal' schedule of 30 weeks a year in cost-saving measures.
Alongside the scheduling change, nearly 220 staff members could lose their jobs across ITV 's daytime schedule, affecting flagship shows like Loose Women, Good Morning Britain, Lorraine, and This Morning.
Giving her opinion on the broadcaster's worrying shake-up, former singer Kerry, 44, wrote in her New! Magazine column:"So, ITV has announced big cuts, with Loose Women and Lorraine scaled back to just 30 weeks a year, which I think is a shame. But if I'm honest, I'm not completely surprised. I think in the modern world it can be difficult for shows like these to stay afloat.
"People don't watch live TV like they used to. But saying that, things can always be revived. I've been around for many years and am still reinventing myself and coming back stronger, so I don't think it's the end for the shows. They need to get me on the Loose Women panel. I'd certainly add some spice!"
Kerry has appeared as a guest on Loose Women several times over the years, but never as a permanent panellist.
While Loose Women has taken a hit, morning chat show Lorraine, fronted by Lorraine Kelly, will see the most drastic changes. It's to be reduced from an hour-long show to just 30 minutes and will go on-air for 30 weeks a year, rather than 52.
A spokesperson for ITV said of the latest move that it was not related to the performance of any of its shows, but about centralising its national news-gathering production in one place and investing resources into high-profile shows such as Mr Bates vs The Post Office and big sporting events like the football World Cup.
Last year there was already talk that ITV was tightening its belt and flagship daytime shows were reportedly in 'crisis talks'.
Denise Welch recently told the Mirror before the latest changes were announced, 'When Loose Women first started, it was never a staple of the daytime schedules like it is now. It was on for three months, off for three months. Then another programme came along and notched it down to half an hour, which the racing still does – but we've got our place.'
The Waterloo Road actress added, 'There's life in these old girls yet. Older women's voices are so important, and I'm very proud to be a part of a show that continues to celebrate that.'

The character proved a hit with fans though, and bosses decided to bring him back. It's now thought he will cause trouble for April and will feature in a big storyline in the village. He appeared to be filming already too which means he could be back onscreen within weeks. Speaking to us about the return for the first some, Amelia shared she was thrilled and was excited to explore Dylan and April further. She also teased there was some "big" stuff ahead, while revealing all on growing up on the soap after more than 11 years in the role. Amelia told us: "April has had an incredibly tough year with what she has been through, with the pregnancy and the homelessness storyline. April and Dylan didn't leave things on the best terms, but I think what is important now is that he's back. "Who knows what will happen. It will be great to explore that relationship further, I think fans want to see that which is great." Viewers have seen April having a tough time recently, struggling to adjust to life back in the village after the heartbreaking stillbirth if her daughter. Her and her dad Marlon Dingle have been at each other's throats for months, with Marlon struggling to get through to her and April trying to find her way. But there's positive scenes ahead, with "big" storylines teased too. Amelia told us: "I think hopefully the future is looking bright for all of them. They have been through so much with recent events. She's been dealt a hard hand in life in the last year or so, and we're gonna see more of April's journey. "She has been in the village for a long time now. She's been growing as a person and it's an incredible thing to explore with the show. I am excited for the bigger storylines to stick my teeth into." On her time on the show, she added: "I've been on the show for 11 and a half years now. It's been a long time. With April's journey, so much has happened, it's important to remember what has led her to be the way she is now, as far back as Donna's death. I think it's brilliant exploring new things." Amelia also praised her co-star Mike Parr, who plays Ross Barton, for his support towards her. She said: "Ross is like a big brother to April and it's very true to real life. I always say Mike is like a big brother. I love him to pieces, he's incredible and we have the best time together. Hopefully we see more of them onscreen." Garrett will play Heidi Schiller in Stephen Sondheim and James Goldman's musical about a group of former showgirls, at the Grand Opera House in Belfast in the autumn. The British soprano said on ITV's This Morning earlier this month that she had cancer surgery after being diagnosed with thymoma, a rare cancer of the thymus gland, which could have affected her singing. Since the surgery to remove the tumour, she has made a successful recovery and will now be joining the Follies cast. Garrett said: "I'm so excited to be coming back to Belfast and especially to be making my debut with Northern Ireland Opera at the age of 70. "Sondheim's Follies is a masterpiece and I'm delighted to have been given the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to perform the iconic role of Heidi Schiller." Article continues below The production marks the singer's 45th anniversary in the industry and her debut with the Northern Ireland Opera, where she will play the "opera diva" of the Weismann's Follies. Set in 1971, the musical follows the group as they return to their former Broadway stage at Weisman Theatre, for a final reunion show before its scheduled demolition. Jazz singer Jacqueline Dankworth, who was in the original cast of the West End debut for Sondheim's Into The Woods in 1990, will join the cast as Carlotta Campion. West End stars Anna-Jane Casey and Annette McLaughlin will play former room mates Sally Plummer and Phyllis Stone. The production is directed by Cameron Menzies, with Greg Arrowsmith as the musical director. The musical scored seven Tony awards at the 1972 ceremony and is best known for its songs Broadway Baby, I'm Still Here and Losing My Mind. More info A BBC EastEnders star is set to take her one-woman show to the Edinburgh Fringe this summer. Speaking on This Morning, Michelle Collins who plays Cindy Beale in the popular soap, said "she knows she is crazy" for performing at the festival. The 63-year-old actress admitted she always wanted to go to the Fringe but the opportunity never happened. Now she is set to be in the capital from July 30 to August 25 as she makes her debut in 'Motorhome Marilyn'. Speaking on the ITV daytime show, Michelle said: "BBC have kindly given me one month off to do the Edinburgh festival and I have never done it. "I always wanted to go and it didn't happen and then this opportunity came up. It's a play called Motorhome Marilyn. "I met this woman who was dressed as Marilyn and she was my kind of age and she was driving a motorhome in LA by the Chinese Theatre. "I was really intrigued by this woman. How did she get to this place? Who is she? "I never saw her again and then I wrote a play about her. I know I am crazy, I am mad. Don't worry because if you don't like Cindy it doesn't matter because I am not Cindy, I am playing someone else." A description of the show on Gilded Balloon reads: "Michelle Collins makes her Edinburgh Fringe debut in Motorhome Marilyn, a dark comedy by Ben Weatherill.
