Kishan's brilliance takes SRH to an easy win over RCB
Kishan, who scored a century in the opening match against Rajasthan Royals, showed his might once again, hitting an unbeaten 94 off 48 balls with the help of seven boundaries and five sixes as SRH posted 231/6 after being sent to bat first.
In reply, RCB, who are still at the second position in the IPL table with 17 points, got a good start as Phil Salt and Virat Kohli put on 80 runs for the opening wicket partnership but they couldn't cross the line as Sri Lankan pacer Malinga and finished their innings on 189 in 19.5 overs.
Both Cummins and Malinga were on target, leaving RCB batters struggling, especially in the latter stages of the game. While Cummins removed tailenders, Malinga bagged the wickets of Romario Shepherd and Tim David in quick succession after running out Rajat Patidar (18). This was the moment the game turned in SRH's favour.
In fact, RCB were cruising with Salt and Kohli hammering SRH bowlers around the ground. The duo added 72 runs in the Powerplay itself. But Kohli's departure changed the complexion of the game as the right-hander had struck a 25-ball 43 with the help of seven boundaries and a six. But the former RCB skipper was caught at point off young spinner Harsh Dubey, who came as the Impact Player.
Earlier, SRH lost both openers Abhishek Sharma (34, 17b, 3x4, 3x6) and Travis Head (17, 10b, 3x4) within the Powerplay after the duo had added 54 runs for the opening wicket. But SRH kept pushing on despite the loss of those wicket as Ishan Kishan and Henrich Klassen put the RCB bowlers to the sword, stitching together 48 runs for the third wicket before Klassen (24, 23b, 2x4, 2x6) fell to Suyash Sharma, lofting his slower googly to Romario Shepherd at long-on.
Kishan kept things going from his end with a a flurry of boundaries and sixes, including two sixes off Krunal Pandya, to show that if and when he gets going, he can be quite the matchwinner. If he can match his sense of adventure with some consistency. SRH will have a lot to look forward to next season.

Reflecting on his journey since the disappointing T20 World Cup 2021, Varun said, 'Thank you so much for considering me an important bowler of the setup for the Indian team. It has definitely taken a long time to earn this spot, and as I have mentioned in many other places also that this journey has been long. I did not have a vision as to if I would make a comeback or not once I was dropped from the team, but I kept telling myself that if I get certain variations and accuracy levels, then I will be able to make a comeback into the team." He credited the IPL and domestic tournaments like the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy and the Vijay Hazare Trophy for helping him gain confidence. 'That was the only motivating factor, and obviously, I had IPL as the platform to showcase whatever I was learning side by side. I also played a lot on the domestic side, like the Syed Mushtaq Ali, Vijay Hazare Trophy and other tournaments. I used to travel all around India and play, which eventually gave me a lot of confidence. That was the main aspect of my comeback," he added. Varun admitted that during his three-year absence from the national team, he faced significant mental health challenges and lacked clarity about his future."The main reason was not having clarity of whether I would ever make a return to the team. The only thing in front of me was IPL and the domestic leagues, and I am definitely grateful for having IPL, because many other cricketers don't have that as well," he continued. He emphasised that his goal was always to return to the Indian side, and he constantly sought ways to improve himself. 'After having good IPL seasons, I felt that I should have been in the team, but still, I was not there. So everything made sense when I was picked after a long time for the Bangladesh tour last year. Yes, that phase was challenging, but the only thing I had control over was going to practice at 5:30 in the morning, doing some spot bowling, and then coming back home to hit the gym in the evening. I kept pushing myself, and that is how it worked. Today, I would not regret any of that, because those hard times made me a better person and a better human being," he added. Varun also highlighted the fast evolution of cricket, particularly in T20s, necessitating constant development and meaningful variations. 'A few people just try some crazy actions, but in terms of developing a real skill with the ball, it takes a lot of time. Once I was away from the team post-2021, I had many variations in my mind. I had around eight variations, and I wasn't excelling in any of those, so my goal was to excel in those one by one. Right now, if you ask me, I have 3 to 4 balls where I am an 8 on 10. I must keep improving and I do feel that in some time, I might hit my peak ability, but let's see how things go. Varun noted that while the wickets in Dubai have been favourable, there are many factors necessary for his performance. 'One factor out of those is the ground conditions, and I hope they favours us. On the other hand, in IPL, you may have seen that the factors and conditions do not help the bowlers much. So, I am also used to bowling in such conditions. Hence, I am ready for both, but I am very eager to see how the pitches are at this point of the year in the UAE," he added. Varun acknowledged the significant role T20I skipper Surya and coach Gambhir played in his comeback. Before the tour of Bangladesh for T20Is, the skipper told him, 'I am looking at you; let's see how things go, but I am keen on having you in the team setup." 'Similarly, Gauti Bhai also has helped me a lot in my comeback, the way he motivates me. Even if we talk little, he has always given me good confidence and he has always told that 'no matter who's going to ignore you, I will keep you in my plans for now". So, that kind of gave me confidence. And if you ask about Gauti Bhai as a mentor, then I would say he brings in a warrior mindset in the dressing room, which is very important and has worked for us at KKR and in the Champions Trophy," he added.
