Ducks trade Trevor Zegras to Flyers in NHL stunner

New York Post6 hours ago

Philadelphia is taking a flyer on one of the flashiest young players in the NHL.
The Ducks have traded Trevor Zegras to the Flyers, the teams announced on Monday.
In return for the 24-year-old forward, Anaheim has received center Ryan Poehling, the 45th overall pick in this year's draft and a fourth-round pick in the 2026 draft.

Zegras was outstanding in his first two full seasons in the NHL, rattling off back-to-back 20-goal, 60-point campaigns in 2021-22 and 2022-23.
His production has dropped off in the two seasons since, though, due in large part to injury issues that have kept him off the ice.

The Boston University product played just 31 games in 2023-24, notching only 15 points, and missed six weeks in 2024-25 due to a torn meniscus in his right knee.
In the 57 games he did play last season, he scored 12 goals and dished 20 assists.
With the Flyers, Zegras joins an exciting young core that includes 20-year-old Russian star Matvei Michkov and 23-year-old Tyson Foerster.
Like the Ducks, though, Philadelphia did not make the playoffs this past season.

Both teams are rebuilding, although Anaheim significantly improved its roster earlier this offseason by trading for Rangers star Chris Kreider.

And the two franchises have done business with one another in the past few years.
When top Flyers prospect Cutter Gauthier shockingly asked out of Philadelphia while still at Boston College, the team traded the rights to Gauthier to Anaheim in exchange for defenseman Jamie Drysdale and a 2025 second-rounder.

With the Flyers, Zegras will look to rekindle the magic he put on display early in his career, including several highlight-reel goals that took the hockey world by storm.
Zegras has shown a knack for scoring incredible lacrosse-style 'Michigan' goals, although perhaps the most impressive play of his career was an assist, when he lobbed the puck from behind the net for his teammate to whack home in December 2021.
With a change of scenery and some talented new teammates, he'll look to do more of that on Broad Street.

Flyers Land Trevor Zegras From Ducks in Trade

Flyers Land Trevor Zegras From Ducks in Trade originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Anaheim Ducks center Trevor Zegras had been on the trade block for some time, and the team finally decided to pull the trigger Monday, sending him to the Philadelphia Flyers. Advertisement With new head coach Joel Quenneville now in the building, the writing was on the wall for Zegras, who was the runner-up for the Calder Trophy, given to the league's top rookie, in 2021-22. According to NHL insider Frank Seravalli, the Ducks received Ryan Poehling, a second-round draft pick in 2025 and a fourth-round draft pick in 2026 in the deal. Zegras still has a lot of potential, even if the Ducks gave up on him. The young player improved his two-way abilities this past season and should give the Flyers a nice player to build around. He is still only 24 years old, so he has plenty of time to keep growing his game. Zegras was once thought to be a foundational player for the Ducks after the team drafted in No. 9 overall in 2019. This past season, he posted 12 goals and 20 assists over 57 games. Advertisement This is a move that should help out both sides, and it's a rare win-win. Anaheim gets extra draft capital to use down the line, while Philadelphia can start its rebuild with Zegras. 4-star Oregon Football QB target Bryson Beaver picks up another SEC offer

The Oregon Ducks may not have been first to the party when it comes to fast-rising quarterback prospect Bryson Beaver, but they certainly arrived early. Since the Ducks showed up, others have followed. Oregon offered the former Boise State commit a scholarship a couple of weeks ago, and since then, his recruitment has blown up. Credit to Beaver, who has put the work in, being named one of the top performers at last week's Elite 11 Finals camp. Additionally, credit to Oregon for recognizing the potential and issuing an offer early. Since the Ducks offered Beaver, he has garnered interest from a lot of top schools in the nation, including the Alabama Crimson Tide and Ole Miss Rebels, both of which hosted him on visits earlier this month. Now, following Beaver's official visit to Oregon this past weekend, the 4-star received another SEC scholarship offer, this time from the LSU Tigers. We are now in another recruiting dead period, so Beaver won't be able to take a visit to LSU in the near future, but assuming he keeps his recruitment open through the summer, it wouldn't be a surprise to see him end up in Baton Rouge this fall for a game. While Duck fans are eager to get Beaver, who is predicted to commit to Oregon, it's understandable that he wants to take his time with his recruitment. After blowing up so much in the past month, he certainly deserves to enjoy the process and not feel rushed in his decision. New Texas five-star DL commit Richard Wesley goes in-depth about his decision

It's been a wild month for five-star defensive lineman Richard Wesley. First, he committed to Oregon and famously jumped in a pool with Ducks coach Dan Lanning. But soon after, the Los Angeles native backed out of the commitment and there was a lot of speculation Texas was leading. Over the weekend, Wesley did indeed commit to Texas. Sunday, Wesley told Jason Suchomel of "My recruitment is 100 percent, 1,000 percent shut down. I'm going here in January." Wesley flew straight from Austin to Indianapolis where he's taking part in the elite Rivals Five-Star Challenge, a camp for 100 of the best players in the country at Lucas Oil Field. The 6-foot-4, 250 pound EDGE talked to Rivals National recruiting director Adam Gorney about his decision. Gorney asked Wesley what convinced him Texas was the right spot. "I knew Texas was a great school. Not only for football, but academically. They have great degrees. Great business school. Great every school. I felt like the decision was the best of both worlds. I get to play in the SEC but I also get to walk out with a great degree. God forbid, football's not forever. So if I do get hurt, in the long run I still walk out with something good. It was all the coaches combined. But what really convinced me was from the academic standpoint." -- Richard Wesley While academics are obviously important to the California prospect, the blue chipper tells Gorney his main goal is to win a national title at Texas. "My goal is to win the natty. You know, I want to win a state championship this high school season. I want to win one my college season. It's great knowing my team is going to be very elite when I get there and I'm going to continue the legacy." -- Richard Wesley Wesley becomes one of the highest ranked prospects that has ever committed to the Longhorns. He ranks just behind Vince Young, Arch Manning, Jonathan Gray and Sergio Kindle. Since Wesley has already committed to two schools during his recruitment, Gorney asked him if this was his final decision. "I'm staying here. I'm staying at Texas. Hook'em! I feel like that's the spot that I want to be at." -- Richard Wesley Wesley says he's glad the recruiting process is now over and he can get down to work for the upcoming high school season and beyond. "I'm glad that everything has settled down. I can finally work this upcoming offseason for the high school season. I'm trying to come up there and really do something. I'm glad everything is cooled down. I'm glad everything is calm now and I can really get to work now." -- Richard Wesley Follow us on X (formerly Twitter) at @LonghornsWire.
