Cybercrime syndicate dismantled by Delhi Police

In a six-month crackdown, the Delhi Police's IFSO (Intelligence Fusion and Strategic Operations) unit dismantled a sophisticated cybercrime syndicate that siphoned ₹2.6 crore from credit card holders across India. The gang, operating from Delhi's Kakrola and Uttam Nagar, included call centre employees, SIM card suppliers, and crypto launderers, who were arrested in a coordinated raid, the Delhi Police said in a statement. Police said they have recovered 52 mobile phones, multiple SIM cards and bank details. (Representational image) According to police, the fraudsters first obtained confidential customer data from a Gurugram-based multinational BPO whose employees had leaked credit card details since 2019. Posing as bank executives, the fraudsters called victims with fake offers such as 'One Time Permission' to extract OTPs and CVVs. Within minutes, they used these details to buy e-gift cards online and sell them to travel agents for cash or USDT cryptocurrency. The arrested accused were identified as Ankit Rathi, Waseem, Vishal Bhardwaj, who allegedly masterminded the operation, and Vishesh Lahori (Paji) and Durgesh Dhakad, who were call centre employees, and Shivam Sehrawat, who supplied SIM cards. Police said they have recovered 52 mobile phones, multiple SIM cards and bank details. 'This was an organised digital heist. We're setting a blueprint to dismantle such syndicates,' said deputy commissioner of police Vinit Kumar (IFSO).

Delhi Police chief sets fresh target for the force

Delhi Police Commissioner SBK Singh on Friday set fresh targets for the Delhi Police in line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Red Fort address on Independence Day. Delhi Police commissioner SBK Singh. (ANI) According to a Delhi Police spokesperson, the commissioner congratulated officers and staff for ensuring incident-free security arrangements on Independence Day and said, 'Despite working so hard, even beyond working hours, we have not been able to win the trust of the public in the form that we should have done.' Drawing from the Prime Minister's speech, Singh outlined three areas of focus for the force — self-reliance, technology adoption and healthy competition — and gave timelines to come up with a proposal. The commissioner asked units to submit proposals within 15 days on reducing dependence on other agencies for specialised resources such as commandos, bomb disposal squads and wireless systems. He also said that the force needs to 'go further' in surveillance, cybercrime prevention, anti-drone defence and counter-terror operations. He directed technology units to form committees and submit recommendations within a month. Singh stressed on the need to cultivate healthy competition within the force while discarding jealousy, at both the individual and organisational levels. Singh also congratulated 18 Delhi Police personnel who were conferred police medals for distinguished and meritorious service on Independence Day. Meanwhile, eight Delhi Police personnel, including an inspector, were suspended on Saturday after a surprise inspection by Singh found that they were absent from duty outside an ISKCON temple in Shahbad Dairy. Officials said Singh was reviewing Janmashtami security arrangements across the city when he noticed that officers posted at Gate No. 2 of the temple were missing. A senior police officer confirmed the suspensions and said a departmental inquiry has been initiated to ascertain if more personnel were absent. The suspended staff range from constables to inspector-rank officers, the officer added, stressing that strict action has been ordered.

Triservice officers offer insight into Operation Sindoor on KBC

Colonel Sofiya Qureshi, Wing Commander Vyomika Singh, and Commander Prerna Deosthalee on Friday offered viewers a rare inside look at Operation Sindoor, India's counterterror mission launched in response to the Pahalgam terror attack, during a special episode of Kaun Banega Crorepati. Triservice officers offer insight into Operation Sindoor on KBC Wing Commander Singh detailed the precision strikes that crippled terrorist infrastructure. 'We attacked in the interiors of the enemy to break their backs. The hands of those who watered the cactus of terrorism were broken. Twenty-one terror camps were recognised. Nine camps were finalised, and the game was done in 25 minutes,' she said. Colonel Qureshi explained the targets. 'Bahawalpur was the headquarters of the Jaish-e-Mohammed, from where terrorists who attacked Pathankot and Pahalgam were trained; Muridke had the headquarters of the Lashkar-e-Taiba, where Ajmal Kasab and David Headley were trained. Therefore, we had to destroy those places.' Singh added that terrorist camps operated under the cover of civilians. 'We are a peace-loving nation and want to live in synergy with our neighbours. Our next-gen tech weapons were so advanced now that we made the operation possible without any civilian fatalities.' Qureshi emphasised that the mission reflected a whole-of-nation approach involving the government and armed forces. Commander Deosthalee outlined the Navy's role. 'The Navy was battle-ready. We managed the trade routes to stabilise the economy and also ensured deterrence, as a dual job. We also protected the maritime borders as there were anti-national elements that entered in the past. Being part in this mission is a matter of pride and honour.' She described naval warfare as '360 degrees of uncertainty with no room for error in the middle of the endless sea without borders,' adding, 'When we strike, we strike in a manner that the enemy would remember forever.' The officers also credited local citizens for their role in rescue efforts after the Pahalgam attack, recalling the bravery shown despite the loss of Navy officer Vinay Narwal. On the preparedness of the armed forces, Singh said they were in 'offence mode.' Qureshi revealed that Pakistan had sent 300–400 drones, both armed and unarmed. 'They sent unarmed drones to scan India's weapon and defence capability around the Line of Control and the international border. But the Army Air Defence successfully disabled their attempts,' she said. Highlighting women's participation, Qureshi noted that over 100 women are involved in Operation Sindoor, trained on par with their male counterparts. 'This enabled them to handle the operations seamlessly.' Singh added, 'A weapon or a fighter aircraft doesn't distinguish between males and females.'
