Survey aims to help keep city active
John Griffiths, MS for Newport East, set up the survey, which is open until September 8, to learn more about issues sports organisations face around access to facilities, funding, and growing participation in sport.
Mr Griffiths said: 'We have so many fantastic sports clubs here in Newport East, many of which are run by dedicated volunteers who are passionate about their clubs and they need support to keep running.'
Mr Griffiths has always been a strong advocate for exercise, activity, and physical health. He regularly takes part in local Parkruns and he set up the Active Newport initiative last year to encourage sports and physical activity.
He said: 'The wider health benefits of physical activity cannot be understated. Active lifestyles support stronger mental well-being by reducing stress and anxiety, enhance social connections through community activities, support the environment through reduction of car emissions and contribute to overall public health by lowering risks of diseases.'
Sports organisations in Newport are being urged to complete the survey, which can be found at forms.office.com/e/kG1p3aLR2x.
The information collected will help identify barriers and improve support for grassroots sports in the city, by feeding the information to Newport City Council, Aneurin Bevan University Health Board, Welsh Government and others.
Mr Griffiths said: "The survey aims to make positive change and targeted support for clubs, whether that be funding, facility provision, or the repurposing of current spaces. So please complete the survey to help keep Newport active!"
