Release White Paper on funds allocated to KKRDB, BJP tells Congress govt.
BJP spokesperson Sudha Halkai has urged the State government to release a White Paper on the funds allocated for Kalyana Karnataka region Development Board (KKRDB) and those spent for the development of Kalyana Karnataka region.
Addressing presspersons here on Monday, Dr. Halkai accused Chief Minister Siddaramaiah of making false statements on funds allocated to KKRDB.
Mr. Siddaramaiah, in his speech after laying foundation stone for various projects of Arogya Avishkara scheme under KKRDB in Yadgir on Saturday, claimed that the Congress-led government has allocated and released a whopping sum of ₹1,300 crore for the board since 2023.
'In order to substantiate his claim, Mr. Siddaramaiah has to come out with a White Paper on the total funds released to KKRDB during the last two years,' she added.
Rejecting the constitution of a committee chaired by Govind Rao to assess backwardness of taluks and to look into the reasons for regional imbalance, Dr. Halkai termed the measure a mere delaying tactic adopted by the Siddaramaiah-led government and urged the State government to continue to allocate funds for the development of backward regions as per the Nanjundappa Committee's recommendations.
Expressing displeasure over the SSLC results of Kalaburagi district during the last academic year, Dr. Halkai said that the district slipped to the last position in the State despite spending a sum of ₹652 crore for improving the SSLC exam performance in seven districts of Kalyana Karnataka under the Akshara Avishkara programme by KKRDB.

Mysuru: BJP functionaries staged a protest at Gandhi Square on Tuesday, demanding the resignation of chief minister Siddaramaiah and deputy chief minister DK Shivakumar over the tragic stampede at Bengaluru's Chinnaswamy Stadium, which claimed the lives of 11 Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) fans and left over 50 others injured. The chief minister, deputy chief minister, and home minister G Parameshwara must take moral responsibility and resign immediately," he demanded.

India stands ‘isolated' over abstention on Gaza ceasefire in the UNGA, says Congress
Expressing concern over the flare-up in West Asia after the escalation of the Israel-Iran conflict, the Congress on Tuesday (June 17, 2025) urged the Union Government to work with partner countries to ensure an immediate ceasefire in the region. 'India should work with partners to bring an immediate halt to hostilities as any escalation can destabilise the entire region,' Congress Working Committee member Anand Sharma, who heads the party's foreign affairs department, told The Hindu. Mr. Sharma, who was part of the Narendra Modi government's diplomatic outreach in Operation Sindoor and the Pahalgam terror attack, mounted a scathing criticism of India's abstention from a UN vote on a motion for the protection of civilians and upholding legal and humanitarian obligations in Gaza. 'It is a humanitarian catastrophe that has unfolded in Gaza, where people are facing collective retribution for their identity. It is indefensible that the land of Mahatma Gandhi doesn't stand for peace,' Mr. Sharma said. In fact, the abstention at the UN was cited as yet another example of 'weak diplomacy' by India. Congress general secretary (organisation) and Lok Sabha member from Kerala's Alappuzha seat, K.C.
