The Inheritance's Elizabeth Hurley plays dead woman in Traitors-style show

Yahoo21-05-2025

Get ready for your new TV addiction this autumn with The Inheritance as the Traitors-style show debuts a first-look trailer, starring Elizabeth Hurley and Rob Rinder.
Pulling in the star power for the new launch, it features Hurley in a dramatic role as "The Deceased" as she poses in front of a white frilly coffin while wearing a glamorous sequinned gown.
She gives a flavour of what's to come in the Channel 4 series and explains what the game of alliances and betrayal will involve, as viewers also get a glimpse of her co-star Rob Rinder.
A first-look trailer and image has been released for the new immersive reality show, with Hurley posing in a coffin as The Deceased.
She plays the character of a recently-deceased wealthy woman whose will is being handled by executor and trusted legal counsel Rinder. A first image from the series features Rinder standing alongside glamorous benefactor Hurley, sitting up in her coffin.
In a first trailer for The Inheritance, Hurley explains more about what to expect from the series, as well as what her role will be. Standing in front of the coffin, she says: "I play a glamorous and mysterious benefactor, known only as The Deceased."
Cutting to a shot of a grand country estate, she continues: "The Deceased lived here, in this beautiful house on a vast country estate, and following her untimely death has left behind a fortune to be claimed."
Hurley explains a little more about what players will be aiming to do and as Rinder appears on the front steps of the house, she adds: "The wonderful Robert Rinder is executor of the will and he'll be keeping a watchful eye on the would-be heirs and heiresses. I can't wait for you all to see it when it comes to Channel 4 this autumn."
If the forthcoming Channel 4 series appears to have vibes of The Traitors about it, that may be because it comes from the same production company, Studio Lambert. Like the hit BBC One series, it is set in a luxurious country estate and requires players to work as a team on challenges, but ultimately betray each other to bag the prize money.
Across 12 episodes, 13 players will have to complete the tricky assignments The Deceased has included in her will and use their cunning and wit to secure the money attached to each final request.
But there's a twist - only one player can claim the money from each request, so they must manage to convince the rest of the group that they alone deserve to get the cash that they all earned.
A Channel 4 description of the show reads: "The Inheritance is a game of wit, willpower, persuasion and betrayal, where it's not about who deserves the money, but who is willing to outplay, out-charm and out-scheme the competition to claim it. It is camp, cut-throat and completely gripping."
Hurley said: "It's a thrill to be part of this clever game, playing The Deceased; it all takes place on her huge estate in the English countryside and she dresses to the nines in every scene. Tune in this autumn to catch The Inheritance on Channel 4."
Rinder added: "This is a high-stakes strategy game served with a side of scheming and sabotage. As The Executor I enforce the rules, keep the chaos in check - more or less - and make sure our players are deserving of every glittering penny left by our dearly departed deceased, played by the iconic Elizabeth Hurley."
Since the runaway success of The Traitors, it's no surprise that plenty of other shows have tried to emulate its popularity. Studio Lambert are trying their luck at Channel 4 this time, but The Inheritance is just the latest in a long list of immersive reality TV series.
The cast for the long-awaited Celebrity Traitors has recently been announced, which is set to welcome the likes of Stephen Fry, Kate Garraway, Paloma Faith and Alan Carr to the castle later this year.
Over on ITV, Stephen Mangan will host The Fortune Hotel again for a second season which sends pairs of contestants to a luxury Caribbean resort for its game of alliances and persuasion.
In March, Netflix launched its own Traitors-esque show Million Dollar Secret as Peter Serafinowicz hosted scheming and backstabbing players hoping to win big at a Canadian lakeside estate.
Studio Lambert has previously tried out another similar style of series at Channel 4 - 2023's Rise and Fall hosted by Greg James saw contestants divided into Rulers and Grafters who had to make their way from the servant basement of a luxury tower block to the penthouse suite. However, it was dropped after just one series.
The Inheritance is expected to air on Channel 4 in autumn 2025.

Princess Catharina-Amalia Hospitalized After Horseback-Riding Incident

Princess Catharina-Amalia sustained injuries after falling off her horse, the Dutch royal palace shared The princess will undergo surgery, the palace said Her mother, Queen Maxima, reportedly left an engagement at The Hague early because of her daughter's accidentPrincess Catharina-Amalia, the eldest daughter of King Willem-Alexander and Queen Maxima of the Netherlands, has been hospitalized following a horseback-riding incident, the Dutch royal palace confirmed. In a statement posted to the palace's website on Tuesday, June 10, officials shared that the 21-year-old heir to the Dutch throne suffered a fall. "The Princess of Orange broke her upper arm today after falling from her horse. She will undergo surgery at the UMC Utrecht," an English translation of the statement read. "More information will follow as soon as it becomes clear what the possible consequences are for official obligations and other agreements." While the palace did not provide additional information, both Hello! and the Daily Express reported that Princess Amalia's mother Queen Maxima left early from her engagement with the MIND Us Foundation at the Noordeinde Palace in The Hague on Tuesday. The princess is a longtime equestrian, and the palace's official website features photos of Princess Amalia riding her horse Mojito, and notes that she "enjoys horse riding, tennis and singing" in her free time. Princess Amalia isn't the only high-profile royal to suffer a horse-related incident in recent years. Princess Anne was hospitalized in June 2024 with a concussion thought to be caused by impact with a horse on her Gatcombe Park estate. Anne, 74, said she could not remember "a single thing" about the incident one month after her hospitalization. While reflecting on her injuries during a trip to South Africa earlier this year, the Princess Royal told the Press Association that the experience taught her 'every day is a bonus," per the BBC. Take each day as it comes, they say." She later made an emotional return to the hospital where she was treated after the incident, and thanked staffers who cared for her. When she and her family take part in Trooping the Colour on Saturday, June 14, the Princess Royal is expected to ride on horseback alongside Prince William and Prince Edward. Over 300 Pieces of Princess Diana's Dresses, Handbags, and More Are Heading to Auction

There have been many Princess Diana-related auctions held over the years—Lady Di herself auctioned off than 79 of her dresses at Christie's in 1997, in fact—but the sale taking place at Julien's Auction later this month may be the biggest yet. The auction house claims the event will include the largest collection of the late royal's fashion to ever go under the hammer. Taking place at the Peninsula Beverly Hills on June 26, Princess Diana's Style & A Royal Collection will spotlight more than 300 extraordinary items of royal provenance. Included in the lots are some of the most memorable dresses, suits, and accessories ever worn by the Princess of Wales—many of which have never before appeared at auction, according to Julien's. More from Robb Report From Pappy Van Winkle to Macallan: An Epic Single-Owner Whiskey Collection Is Heading to Auction Art Dealer Barbara Gladstone's Elegant Manhattan Row House Lists for $12 Million Airstream's Newest Luxury Trailer Feels Like a Frank Lloyd Wright Home Inside Diana became a style icon soon after being thrust into the spotlight in the 1980s due to her high-profile relationship with Prince Charles. Her fashion evolved from modest and traditional to elegant and bold as she navigated her life in the public eye. She worked with many different designers, as illustrated by the diverse pieces on offer at Julien's. One of the auction highlights is a silk floral day dress designed by Belville Sassoon (pictured top). Expected to fetch between $100,000 and $200,000, the frock was a staple in Diana's wardrobe and was donned for many official visits and public appearances. It was actually dubbed the Caring Dress, as the princess often wore it to see patients in hospitals, according to designer David Sassoon. Another standout is a custom cream evening gown that Catherine Walker designed for Diana for her 1986 royal tour of Saudi Arabia. The elegant gown, which is expected to hammer down for between $200,000 and $300,000, features a high neckline and long Guinevere-style point sleeves to accommodate local dressing customs. At the other, more daring end of the spectrum is a two-piece Bruce Oldfield set that Lady Di wore to Royal Ascot in 1987. Oldfield began designing for the princess in the mid-1980s with more daring fashions, leading the press to dub her 'Dynasty-Di.' This silk ensemble carries a pre-sale estimate of $100,000 to $200,000. Accessories will abound at the auction, too. Highlights include Lady Di's stylish John Boyd hat (estimate: $20,000 to $40,000) and her coveted Lady Dior lambskin handbag (estimate: $20,000 to $30,000). That is just a taste of 300 rarities on offer. 'Princess Diana's legacy lives on not only through her humanitarian work but also in the timeless elegance of her style, which continues to inspire the world,' Martin Nolan, cofounder and executive director of Julien's Auctions, said in a statement. 'This unprecedented collection offers collectors and admirers a rare opportunity to own a piece of royal history and pay tribute to one of the most beloved figures of our time.' In keeping with Diana's philanthropic spirit, a portion of the proceeds from the auction will benefit Muscular Dystrophy UK. Bidding and registration are now open online. The live auction will take place in the Peninsula's Verandah Ballroom, with guests served Champagne and the hotel's signature afternoon tea, naturally. Click to see photos of the key auction lots.
