Tamil Nadu Touches Double-Digit GDP, MK Stalin Praises "Dravidian Model"
With a revised growth rate of 11.19%, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin on Tuesday celebrated the economic achievement, attributing it to the "Dravidian Model Government".
"Tamil Nadu's Dravidian Model Government stands tall as the only State in India to achieve double-digit economic growth," CM Stalin wrote on the social media platform X.
"The last time this was achieved was in 2010–11 under Kalaignar (Karunandhi). Now again, it is a DMK government walking its path," he added.

The revised figure marks a significant leap from the previously announced 9.69%, which was already the highest in the country. With this, Tamil Nadu becomes the only major state to touch double-digit growth post-pandemic, reaffirming its status as a national economic leader.
Mr Stalin said this growth gives renewed confidence to Tamil Nadu's ambitious goal of becoming a $1 Trillion Economy by 2030 — a vision that once invited scepticism. "What once seemed too ambitious is now well within reach," he said, citing Thirukkural 666: "Those who plan with clarity achieve their goal if they act with determination."
Finance Minister Thangam Thennarasu hailed the revised growth rate as a resounding endorsement of the Chief Minister's governance. "No other state has achieved this level of growth. From 9.69% to 11.19% — we've broken our own record," he said. "It is only due to the CM's inclusive, long-term approach and effective execution across sectors that Tamil Nadu could achieve this feat — not once, but twice."
Industries Minister T.R.B. Rajaa described Tamil Nadu's revised growth as "unmatched by any other large state" and a testament to the DMK's governance model. "After 14 years, Tamil Nadu has once again hit double-digit growth — and on both occasions, it was under DMK rule. This is not just statistical success, but a victory for the Dravidian development model," Mr Rajaa said.
The revised 11.19% growth estimate for 2024–25 comes at a politically sensitive time, with Tamil Nadu gearing up for the 2026 Assembly polls. The ruling DMK sees this data point as both a policy validation and a political endorsement of its "everything for everyone" philosophy.
The government argues that the Dravidian model, by integrating social equity, industrial growth, welfare, and infrastructure, has delivered not just inclusion but national economic leadership.
With this, Tamil Nadu continues to position itself as a destination for investors, a model for federal economic governance, and a trailblazer in sustainable growth.
However, the key opposition AIADMK claims the seeds for this were sown during the earlier 10-year regime under it. Kovai Sathyan, AIADMK Spokesperson, said, "The ten-year AIADMK government strengthened the state's economy and had drawn investments. The ruling DMK reaps the benefits".

Vijayawada: Assembly Speaker Ch Ayyanna Patrudu on Friday said it is important to understand civic responsibilities, respect the democratic system, and work for the betterment of society. Participating as the chief guest in the 79th Independence Day celebrations held on the Assembly premises, the Speaker first paid floral tributes to the portrait of Mahatma Gandhi before unfurling the national flag. Extending greetings to the people on the occasion, he described August 15 as an auspicious day that fulfilled the dreams of millions by ending British colonial rule. 'The freedom we enjoy today was achieved through immense sacrifices, hunger strikes, and long imprisonments endured by countless patriots,' he said, recalling the contributions of Mahatma Gandhi, Subhash Chandra Bose, Bhagat Singh, Alluri Sitarama Raju, Uyyalawada Narasimha Reddy, B.R. Ambedkar, and Pingali Venkaiah, among others. He underlined the need for today's youth to learn about the freedom struggle and draw inspiration from it. Ayyanna Patrudu noted that the essence of democracy lies not in facilities, but in efficient governance. 'Every public issue must be discussed in the Assembly, and every new policy should aim at public welfare,' he said, adding that the absence of some MLAs from Assembly sessions reflects irresponsibility. La Ganesan, a veteran organiser for the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh and one of BJP's longest-serving leaders in Tamil Nadu, who went on to serve as Governor in three states, died on Friday in Chennai. He was 80. The Governor of Nagaland since February 2023, Ganesan was admitted to Apollo Hospitals on August 8 after a brief illness. His condition worsened over the following week, hospital officials said. Born on February 16, 1945, in Thanjavur, Tamil Nadu, into a Brahmin family, Ila Ganesan — as he was known to colleagues — was drawn to the RSS as a boy, becoming a full-time pracharak in his youth. His early decades in the organisation were largely outside the public spotlight. That changed in the early 1990s, when the RSS deputed him to the BJP as general secretary in charge of the party's organisation in Tamil Nadu, a post he held until 2003. His tenure spanned a period of tumult and unlikely alliances for the BJP in the state. Alongside the political commentator Cho Ramaswamy, Ganesan was credited with engineering the BJP's tie-up with the DMK in the late 1990s, after the AIADMK, led by J Jayalalithaa, pulled out of the NDA government. Ganesan's political style stood apart from the newer generation of BJP leaders. He cultivated cordial relationships across the political spectrum — with DMK patriarch M Karunanidhi, Jayalalithaa, and even Communist leaders — and avoided the strident personal attacks that often colour Tamil Nadu's political discourse. Never known to flaunt his caste identity, he instead built a reputation as a soft-spoken organiser and skilled orator who could address audiences in Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, and Hindi. Party colleagues recall him as a 'simple man' who often travelled with only a small bag, and as one of the few BJP leaders to work consistently to connect with the Tamil diaspora in Sri Lanka, Europe, and across Asia. Beyond politics, Ganesan was steeped in literature and music. He wrote columns for mainstream publications, edited Ore Naadu (One Nation), the Tamil Nadu BJP's mouthpiece, and founded Pottramarai (Golden Lotus), a collective of Tamil scholars from around the world. Among RSS colleagues, he was known as a singer and composer, having written and set to music several songs on patriotism and national integration. He rose through the BJP's ranks to become state president of the Tamil Nadu unit, national secretary, and vice-president. In the Rajya Sabha, he represented Madhya Pradesh. In August 2021, Prime Minister Narendra Modi appointed him governor of Manipur; he later held additional charge as governor of West Bengal before moving to Nagaland in 2023. A lifelong bachelor, Ganesan remained active in public life until his final weeks.
