Woman charged with murder and preventing a lawful burial
A WOMAN has been charged with murder and preventing a lawful burial after a man was found dead in Winton. On Saturday, August 9, police received a report raising concern for the welfare of a man at an address in Edgehill Road in the Winton area of Bournemouth. Officers attended and an 88-year-old local man was found dead at the address. READ MORE: A detailed investigation ensued, led by detectives from the Major Crime Investigation Team (MCIT), and 60-year-old Tamara MacGarry from Bournemouth, was arrested at the scene. 'This incident has been the subject of an extensive investigation and we have now consulted with the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS), who have authorised the charges of both murder and preventing a lawful burial. 'This means the case will now be the subject of active court proceedings and it is vital that the justice system is allowed to follow its course. Therefore, it is also important to stress that there should be no further commentary or sharing of information online or on social media that could potentially prejudice these court proceedings. 'There will continue to be an increased police presence in the area while we continue with our investigation. When Sikander Ali pulled up in the driveway of his family home in a quiet cul-de-sac in the suburbs of the English city of Birmingham, he did not notice a woman in an Islamic veil parked in a dark Mercedes opposite the house. As he began to open his car door, the veiled woman walked toward him, raised a handgun and pulled the trigger. Her gun jammed. Mr. Ali scrambled back into his vehicle, threw it into reverse and sped off, security footage from a nearby house showed. 'It is sheer luck that he managed to get away unscathed,' a local prosecutor, Hannah Sidaway, said. On Tuesday, Aimee Betro, 45, an American woman from Wisconsin, was convicted in the failed assassination attempt against Mr. Ali. A jury in a court in Birmingham found her guilty of conspiracy to murder, firearm possession and importing ammunition after a three-week trial. Prosecutors say the botched attack, on Sept. 7, 2019, was the culmination of a feud between two families in England's Midlands region that had started the previous year with a fistfight in a Birmingham clothing store owned by Mr. Ali's father. In that episode, Mohammed Aslam, 56, and his son Mohammed Nazir, 31, were injured. In the aftermath, they decided to exact revenge through a murder plot targeting Mr. Ali's father or other members of the family, the police said. The assassin they chose was far from local. Los Angeles immigrant advocates plan "day of protest," boycotts after immigration raids at Home Depot, MacArthur Park
Local organizations across the Los Angeles area are calling for boycotts and a "day of action" on Tuesday to protest the immigration raids that have taken place in the region. A coalition of organizations, including CHIRLA, SEIU 721, UTLA and CARCEN-LA, says the federal enforcement is escalating, and they plan "stop the Trump terror through non-violent resistance such as rallying, car caravans, and marching." They are asking residents to participate in a 24-hour boycott, to attend rallies in MacArthur Park and downtown LA and support local businesses and street vendors. This comes after immigration enforcement operations have ramped up in Southern California, including several in the MacArthur Park area. Last week, federal agents were seen detaining people near a Home Depot and putting them in the back of a yellow Penske box truck in the Westlake District. The coalition of organizations is asking people to avoid shopping at stores like Home Depot, Target, Walmart and several other well-known businesses, which have been targeted during the raids. A spokesperson for CHIRLA said they are asking people to boycott those specific corporations because they believe "they can do more to speak out against the ICE raids." The spokesperson added that "it is no coincidence that a lot of the high-profile raids are taking place near those businesses." Felipe Caceres, the Western Region Chair for the SEIU International Latino Caucus, claims the businesses have the ability to do more to ensure their space is safe. "We aren't notified that these activities are going to happen, and we aren't involved in the operations," a spokesperson for Home Depot said in a statement to CBS Los Angeles. "We're required to follow all federal and local rules and regulations in every market where we operate." CBS Los Angeles has reached out to these stores for a comment on the situation and is waiting for a response. Organizers claim LA is being attacked by militarized ICE operations, saying that additional federal funding "funneling unprecedented funds into the Department of Homeland Security (DHS)" will only make matters worse.
