Emergency-like situation prevailing in Andhra under Naidus govt: Jagan
Addressing a press conference, he said that the situation is evident by the incidents occurring across the state, citing the cases of multiple arrests of YSRCP leaders.
'Emergency-like circumstances are prevailing in Andhra Pradesh today and several incidents that are happening in the state will show it to your eyes," the former CM said, after visiting the home and family members of senior party leader N Prasanna Kumar Reddy.
Prasanna's home was recently ransacked allegedly by the ruling party cadres after the YSRCP leader's alleged remarks against a woman TDP MLA.
Stating that many restrictions were clamped down as part of his visit to Nellore, the YSRCP supremo questioned Naidu whether it is a crime to meet his own party leaders.
The opposition leader alleged that the CM was 'scared" of him and several roads leading to his programme were 'dug" to prevent people from turning up.
The government deployed more than 2,000 policemen, the Deputy-Inspector General (DIG) of police and a large number of DSPs. This force is not meant for his security, but to stop people…, he claimed.
On the recent attack on Prasanna's residence allegedly by TDP cadres, he claimed that the former would have been killed had he been at home at that time.
Further, the opposition leader noted that the government has booked and jailed senior party leader and former minister K Govardhan Reddy in 14 cases to deny him bail and extend his prison time. When there was a chance for Govardhan to get bail in one case, the government was raking up another case, he alleged.
The YSRCP chief said Govardhan was booked for forwarding information about his press conferences on WhatsApp, 'illegal" quartz mining, supporting construction workers protesting lack of sand and other 'silly" reasons. Despite the prime accused persons getting bail in the mining case, Govardhan, who is A4 in this case, is yet to get bail, he added.
Reading out a large list of YSRCP leaders who have been booked, arrested and allegedly harassed, the opposition leader warned Naidu that he is sowing the seeds of a bad tradition which could boomerang after the TDP-led coalition government loses power.
Referring to the NDA government's poll promises, the YSRCP chief said that it cheated people without implementing them and accused it of 'destroying schools, removing English medium instruction and TOEFL courses".
The unpaid dues under Aarogyasri (free healthcare) have piled up to Rs 4,000 crore and farmers are not receiving remunerative prices, he alleged.
Though the government promised free sand, no such facility is available, he said, and accused the NDA government of 'widespread corruption".
The Andhra Pradesh government is running a 'liquor mafia" in the state where permit rooms charge more than the maximum retail price and officers in police department are acting as 'collection agents" to pass on kickbacks to local MLAs and also up to Naidu and IT Minister Nara Lokesh, he claimed.
Further, he alleged that illegal poker clubs are bribing authorities with some of them in West Godavari district reportedly paying up to Rs 1 crore.
Assailing the TDP-led coalition government for allegedly offering land to non-descript companies at a pittance, Reddy alleged that land is being given away as cheap as Rs 99 paise per acre to entities they like.
Reddy reminded Naidu that his government will not last forever and exuded confidence that the YSRCP will return to power after about three years.
Further, he issued a stern warning to police officials that whoever is toeing the government line to harass YSRCP leaders will definitely be held accountable even if they retire, take VRS or go overseas.
Reddy warned the officials that he will call everyone and bring them to justice.
There was no immediate reaction from the TDP.
The YSCRP chief arrived in Nellore as part of his visit to call on the jailed party leader and others.
He reached Nellore in a chopper and proceeded to the local district jail to meet Govardhan Reddy.

Red choora still on her wrists, wife bids adieu to Ludhiana soldier; cremated with full military honours
Draped in tricolor, the body of Lance Naik Pritpal Singh, 27, from Manupur village of Ludhiana district, reached his village Sunday and the cremation was performed with full military honours. He was killed in action during a gunfight with terrorists in South Kashmir's Kulgam, Friday. He had got married just five months ago. The Operation which started nine days ago at Kashmir's Akhal Forest, is among the longest military operations against terrorists in the Valley in the recent years. His newly wedded wife Manpreet Kaur bid him adieu with red choora (bangles) still on her wrists and mehendi (henna) on her hands. The family was expecting him on Diwali to celebrate the newlywed couple's first festival together in their recently renovated house. Speaking to The Indian Express, Harbans Singh, father of the deceased soldier said: 'We have been devastated. Just two days ago on August 8, my daughter-in-law Manpreet had applied mehendi (henna) on her hands as she was preparing for Raksha Bandhan festivities and had to go to parents house to tie Raakhi to her brother. My son (Pritpal) had sent some money to buy whatever she wanted for the festival. The same day my son died fighting the terrorists in Kashmir. She is our like our daughter.' 'Since the day they got married in February, they did not spend much time together as he had left for duty immediately after marriage. We were expecting him on Diwali to celebrate but he will never return now,' said the wailing father. Language lessons: on Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, State Education Policy
Tamil Nadu and Karnataka are planning to implement a two-language formula for school education, as opposed to the push for a three-language policy in the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. Both States are inclined towards primacy for local languages, Tamil and Kannada, respectively, and then English in school education. Tamil Nadu has already unveiled its State Education Policy (SEP) while a commission has submitted its recommendations for Karnataka's SEP. Tamil Nadu has merely reiterated its existing two-language policy, but Karnataka is set to discontinue its three-language policy. The commission has proposed that Kannada or the child's mother tongue should be the medium of instruction up to Class 5, and preferably till Class 12. Kannada or whatever is the mother tongue and English will be the two compulsory languages. If implemented, this will replace the model that includes Hindi as a third compulsory language. Other recommendations include moving away from NCERT textbooks and developing a Karnataka-specific curriculum and bilingual teaching methods. The Tamil Nadu SEP, which was announced by Chief Minister M.K. Stalin recently, makes Tamil compulsory up to Class 10 across all boards. The NEP proposes a third language which should be Hindi or another Indian language, seen as an attempt to impose Hindi. The Tamil Nadu SEP also commits to promote critical thinking, digital literacy, climate education, and social justice. Apart from a STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Mathematics) approach, the State also wants to offer special support for tribal students, first-generation learners, and students with disabilities. The government has pledged more support for public education. In fact, uniform high quality public education should be the biggest priority of school education policy for all States and the Centre. The Centre's ill-advised focus on language turns unproductive and controversial even though it does not insist on promoting Hindi on paper. The three-language policy is also in disregard for the demand for English language learning, and as a medium of instruction across States, including in the Hindi-speaking regions, and Gujarat and Maharashtra. Education policies have been a major driver of the development outcomes in Tamil Nadu and Karnataka, and any attempt to forcibly alter them by central policies would do no good to anyone. Tamil Nadu is fighting for the release of ₹2,152 crore in education funds from the Centre that is rightfully its. There is no harm in learning Hindi or any other language, but when perceived as a political project of domination, its promotion causes resistance. The Centre must give up its language obduracy and focus on several critical challenges in school education. It must work with State governments to tackle them.

Netanyahu To Allow Foreign Journalists In War-Torn Gaza: 'We Have Ordered The Military To...'
Israel had so far blocked most foreign reporters from independently accessing Gaza since it launched its military offensive after the Hamas-led attack on October 7, 2023. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Sunday announced a plan to allow more foreign journalists to report inside the war-torn Gaza with the military, in a rare press conference where he offered more details about his vision of victory against Hamas in the ongoing conflict. Israel had so far blocked most foreign reporters from independently accessing the territory since it launched its military offensive there after Hamas' unprecedented attack on October 7, 2023, which killed 1,200 people. Officials have often cited security as the reason for not allowing foreign journalists there. 'We have decided and have ordered, directed the military to bring in foreign journalists, more foreign journalists, a lot," Netanyahu said during Sunday's press conference. 'There's a problem with assuring security, but I think it can be done in a way that is responsible and careful to preserve your own safety." However, Netanyahu did not provide any specifics on the plan. Global press outlets have relied on local journalists on the ground in Gaza to provide reporting and footage from the war for a long time, as access to Gaza has been tightly controlled for the 22 months of war. Netanyahu's Plan For Gaza Netanyahu also defended Israel's plan to occupy Gaza City, insisting that Israel's goal is liberation from Hamas rule, not to impose a long-term occupation. 'Gazans are begging us and begging the world to be freed from Hamas," he said. He accused the Palestinian militant group of still having 'thousands of armed terrorists" in Gaza and said Israel's military operations are focused on eliminating this threat. 'No nation would put up with an entity committed to its annihilation a stone's throw away from its border." Presenting his postwar vision for Gaza, Netanyahu said the territory would be demilitarised, with Israel maintaining ultimate security control. A security buffer zone will be created along the Israel-Gaza border to prevent future attacks. Meanwhile, Hamas accused Netanyahu of telling what it called a 'series of lies" at a press conference Sunday where he laid out his vision for victory in Gaza.
