Ranchi: The inauguration of the Ratu Road flyover has been postponed to July 3 against its original scheduled launch on June 19 due to unavailability of the Union road transport & highways minister

, Ranchi MP and Union minister of state for defence Sanjay Seth announced on Tuesday.
The 4.18km long corridor is built by NHAI at a cost of Rs 291 crore. "It links NH- 23 on the Pandra side to NH- 75, with two lanes on one end and four lanes on the other. It includes bulletproof and soundproof barriers throughout, plus extensive plantation along the route," flyover's site manager Anand Kumar said. Once operational, the flyover will end traffic congestions on Ratu road.
Politicking over naming the flyover has picked up pace before its launch.
The JMM led INDIA bloc and the opposition camp, led by NDA have proposed various names and social and cultural outfits have also joined the bandwagon.
While JMM and Congress demanded that the flyover be named after former chief minister Shibu Soren. Likewise, the BJP wants the flyover to renamed after a freedom fighter or legendary national figure.
JMM general secretary Vinod Pandey said, "Naming the flyover after Shibu Soren will be a fitting tribute to his struggle for separate Jharkhand. It is the will of the entire state"
BJP spokesperson Pratul Shahdeo said, "Flyover should be named after an icon without any tainted past."

Pact inked, decks cleared for 2nd Sainik School in Punjab
With the Punjab government and the Centre finally signing the long-pending agreement for the existing Sainik School in Kapurthala, the path has now been cleared for setting up a second Sainik School in a border district of the state. The state had proposed a new school in Dalla Gorian village of Gurdaspur district nearly 15 years ago, but the plan remained in limbo due to a stalemate between the Union ministry of defence and the Punjab government over the Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) for Sainik School, Kapurthala. The defence ministry had made this agreement a prerequisite for approving any new schools in the state. Officials familiar with the matter said the agreement between the state government and the Sainik Schools Society under the ministry of defence was signed in March this year, outlining their roles, responsibilities, and financial commitments in establishing and running such schools. The announcement regarding the signing of the agreement, which had been pending since 2006, was made by Punjab's defence services welfare minister Mohinder Bhagat on May 27. As per the agreement, the state government will now provide financial assistance of approximately ₹6 crore for staff salaries, pensions, NPS contributions, etc. So far, the funds were being given by the Centre as a special grant. 'The signing of this agreement has paved the way for the new school in the Majha region. We have already taken up this matter with higher authorities,' said one of the officials quoted above. The Sainik School in Gurdaspur was proposed by the Punjab government in December 2009, which also identified a 40-acre plot of land for its establishment. In June 2017, the central ministry conducted a site survey and found the area suitable for opening the school with a student strength of 250. 'There was no progress for years thereafter, as the plan got stalled over the agreement for the school in Kapurthala. However, we are hopeful now,' said the official, who did not wish to be named. The Kapurthala Sainik School was established in 1961 as a feeder institution for the armed forces. The school has been a source of pride for the state government, with an impressive list of alumni. During the previous government, Manpreet Singh Badal, the then finance minister, had met Union defence minister Rajnath Singh in 2021 and requested him to approve a school in Bathinda as well along with the one already proposed in Gurdaspur by the state government. At present, there are 33 Sainik Schools managed by the Sainik Schools Society, the nodal organisation for establishing and managing these schools across the country, with eight states having two or more of these prestigious institutions. The central government has also decided to set up 100 new Sainik Schools across the country in partnership mode with NGOs, state government schools, trusts and private schools.

Haryana: Railway minister, Saini launch India's largest cargo hub in Manesar
Union railway minister Ashwini Vaishnaw and Haryana chief minister Nayab Singh Saini on Tuesday inaugurated the country's biggest Gati Shakti Multi-Modal cargo terminal in Manesar, Haryana. Developed under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Gati Shakti National Master Plan, the mega facility aims to boost multimodal connectivity and streamline freight movement across the country. Constructed at a cost of ₹117,091 million, the terminal is a joint initiative of the Haryana Rail Infrastructure Development Corporation Ltd (HRIDC) which holds a 55.4% stake, Haryana State Industrial and Infrastructure Development Corporation (HSIIDC) with 19%, and the Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) with 5%. Lauding the rapid transformation of India's railway infrastructure under the current government, the Railway minister, on the occasion, said: 'In just 11 years, the annual railway budget has risen from ₹25,000 crore to ₹2.5 lakh crore. Haryana's allocation alone jumped from ₹315 crore before 2014 to over ₹3,400 crore,' he said. The central minister also announced that 100 new Mainline Electric Multiple Unit (MEMU) trains and 50 Namo Bharat passenger trains will be launched. He said, additionally, work is underway to upgrade 34 Amrit Bharat stations across Haryana. The construction of 540 railway overbridges and underpasses has also been completed in the state. Vaishnaw also confirmed full electrification of Haryana's rail lines, and revealed plans to modernise the railway factory in Sonipat. Stating that the 823 km of new tracks laid in Haryana surpass the rail network of the United Arab Emirates, he said that work is underway to develop 34 Amrit Bharat stations in the state. On the occasion, chief minister Saini described the terminal as a 'milestone in Haryana's development journey' and a critical step toward realising the Prime Minister's vision of a developed India. 'This isn't just steel and concrete. It is a symbol of our nation's progress,' he said. The terminal will connect vehicle consignments from Maruti's Manesar and Gurugram plants to 17 hubs across 380 Indian cities, as well as export destinations via ports like Pipavav and Mundra, said Saini. Stating that Haryana has emerged as the country's leading automobile manufacturing hub, producing nearly 50% of India's cars, he said: 'The internal railway siding built by HRIDC at Maruti is a testimony to our 'ease of doing business' commitment.' Later, the CM and the union minister together flagged off the first cargo train from the terminal. On the occasion, Maruti Suzuki India MD & CEO Hisashi Takeuchi expressed confidence that the terminal would reinforce India's position as a global manufacturing and export hub. 'The project underscores our strong commitment to India's Net Zero emissions target 2070. It will contribute to avoiding 175,000 tonnes of CO2e emissions, saving 60 million litres of fuel annually at full capacity, and reducing road congestion. Lowering carbon emissions remains a top priority at Maruti Suzuki. We aim to achieve this, by increasing the share of vehicle dispatches through railways to 35% by FY 2030-31,' he added.

Govt, Kuki-Zo groups reach understanding to relocate camps to tribal areas
The Union home ministry and Manipur's Kuki-Zo insurgent groups have reached an understanding to relocate seven camps from near Meitei-dominated areas after a second round of talks on Monday under the 2008 Suspension of Operations (SoO) agreement, an official said. The official said the extension of the pact was not discussed at the meeting focused on revising ground rules, which are seen as a more immediate priority. The locations of the new camps in tribal areas will be discussed at a third meeting to be scheduled. 'It has been agreed in principle that any relocated camps should be in tribal areas,' the official said. Representatives of the insurgent groups presented new proposals involving security arrangements. The ministry representatives emphasised the recovery of looted weapons and full restoration of the Imphal–Jiribam–Silchar and Dimapur–Imphal-Moreh highways, which have remained blocked since ethnic violence erupted in Manipur in May 2023. 'Discussions on ground rules were held on Monday, and an agreement was reached on key changes, including closure of camps. Reopening highways was also a top priority,' said a second official. In 2008, 25 insurgent groups signed the tripartite agreement with the central and state governments. Around 2,200 of their members then resided in 14 designated camps across the hill districts of Manipur. Meiteis have opposed the pact. Former chief minister N Biren Singh, a Meitei, has blamed armed Kuki militants for involvement in the protracted conflict. Kuki leaders have accused Meitei groups, including Arambai Tenggol, of stoking the violence. On Monday, Manipur Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) spokesperson Michael Lamjathang Haokip wrote to Prime Minister Narendra Modi demanding the abrogation of the pact to restore peace in the state. The Manipur government withdrew from the tripartite SoO talks in February 2023, leaving the pact ineffective. Each member of the insurgent groups in camps set up under the SoO is entitled to a monthly ₹6,000 stipend, but payments have reportedly been suspended since violence broke out. The insurgent groups initially demanded an autonomous Kuki-Zo council within Manipur. They have since 2023 demanded a Union Territory with its a legislature BJP Rajya Sabha member Leishemba Sanajaoba questioned the rationale of the pact. 'What was the point of signing such a pact with these groups when they neither revolted against the state nor the Union governments at that time?' he asked on Facebook. He wrote that the pact was signed during the Congress rule with two Kuki-Zo umbrella insurgent groups, which originally demanded autonomy. 'Such grave missteps of the previous government led to this chaotic situation in the state.' The fresh talks on the pact come amid protracted violence between Meiteis and Kukis in Manipur, which has since May 2023 and has left around 250 people dead and thousands displaced. Meiteis live largely in the plains of the Imphal valley, and the Kukis in the hills. They have since 2023 withdrawn to their respective strongholds and set up road blockades on highways to restrict each other's and the movement of essential items between their strongholds.
