Pacers Linked to Future Hall of Fame Tyrese Haliburton Replacement

Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. The Indiana Pacers suffered two devastating losses in Game 7 of the NBA Finals against the Oklahoma City Thunder. Not only did the Pacers lose Game 7 and come up one win short of their first NBA championship, they also saw star point guard Tyrese Haliburton go down with a torn Achilles. Due to the Achilles injury, Haliburton is expected to miss all of next season. In just one quick moment, Indiana went from being a potential champion this year and a top-tier contender next season to a team many could see missing the playoffs. They certainly can't replace everything he brings to the court, but they need to figure out a way to bring in a playmaker who can create plays for his teammates. Read more: NBA Receives Strong Warning Following Tyrese Haliburton's Achilles Injury With that being said, one potential option has been brought up as a possible free agency target for Indiana. Daniel Chavkin of The Sporting News has named Chris Paul as a potential option for the Pacers. Paul is set to be a free agent after playing the 2024-25 NBA season with the San Antonio Spurs. "Chris Paul's career is coming to a close, but the future Hall of Famer is still looking for his first NBA championship. If the Pacers are looking for a true one-year replacement, then Paul could come in fill a void both on and off the court," Chavkin wrote. "Last year, Paul played in all 82 games for the Spurs, but averaged a career-low 8.8 points per game. Since Paul just turned 40 last month, he is probably looking for a specific situation for him to extend his career." Paul could be intrigued by Indiana. The Pacers were in the NBA Finals this season and he could step in as a starter in a lineup that fits well around a pass-first point guard. Read more: Caitlin Clark Had No Words Following Pacers' Tyrese Haliburton Injury During the 2024-25 season with the Spurs, Paul played in all 82 games. He averaged 8.8 points, 7.4 assists, 3.6 rebounds, and 1.3 steals per game, while shooting 42.7 percent from the floor and 37.7 percent from three-point range. More than likely, Paul will not be the guy Indiana brings in. He could make sense as a target, but playing in Indiana may not be where he wants to spend the next chapter of his career. Expect to hear a lot of rumors surround the Pacers this offseason. Paul may be connected to the team again at some point in the coming days and weeks. NRL fans rocked as Knights young gun's horror injury set to rule him out for season

Newcastle Knights superstar Fletcher Sharpe has been joined by his family in Perth after he suffered a ruptured spleen and lacerated kidney in what could be a season-ending injury during his side's win. Sharpe has been a revelation for the Knights in 2025 having moved from the wing to five-eighth. The five-eighth has been a bright spark in what has been a poor season for the Knights in attack having scored 11 tries in 14 games. Although just as the Knights have managed to string a couple of solid performances together it appears the 21-year-old could miss the remainder of the season after a horror injury in Perth. Sharpe left the field during the win against the Dolphins for a HIA assessment after a heavy fall when he made a break down the field. However, it appears more damage was done to his abdomen having landed awkwardly on his elbow and damaging his spleen and kidney. 'NRL Physio' Brien Seeney claimed it would have been deemed a 'medical emergency' after such a serious injury with the 21-year-old taken to hospital for surgery. Sharpe has remained in Perth hospital since the incident and the club have flown his family over to be by his side. Fletcher appears to be recovering well, but will remain in Perth for the time being. While plenty remains unknown about Sharpe's injury, Seeney suggested it could be the end of the star's season with his recovery important after such a scary incident. Fans were left stunned at the injury, which appeared to happen during a routine tackle. There is a chance he doesn't play again this him the very best in his recovery - a reminder of the brutal nature of rugby league. — NRL PHYSIO (@nrlphysio) June 23, 2025 Rest up Fletch get well soon champion — Brendan Moore (@moorey81) June 23, 2025 🤯 poor Fletcher. That's absolutely horrendous. I hope he's doing ok. — Nicole Hegedus (@nicole_hegedus) June 23, 2025 The Knights will now turn to either Jackson Hastings or Tyson Gamble to fill in for Sharpe in the halves. Coach Adam O'Brien has preferred Gamble throughout the season with Hastings only making his one appearance in 2025 against the Roosters two weeks ago with the Knights missing a host of stars. The injury comes at a horrible time for the team with the side set to host the Canberra Raiders this weekend. Unfortunately, the Knights were not the only team in Perth to lose a player for the season. Dolphins winger Jack Bostock went down clutching at his leg during the clash and is set to miss the season. RELATED: State of Origin player floated for immediate NRL club switch Billy Slater calls out glaring truth as NRL makes call on Origin 3 ref On a night of injuries, Bostock ruptured his ACL rupture in the Perth match, which will see him miss up to nine months of action. Having just his form, scoring four tries against North Queensland the previous weekend, Bostock emerged after half-time with ice on his knee and in a brace. "I am really disappointed for him," Dolphins coach Kristian Woolf said after the game. "He's had a great season and is a terrific young man and I know he has the resilience to get through it." The Dolphins have had a horror run of season-ending injuries in 2025 with forwards Tom Gilbert, Daniel Saifiti and Max Plath, along with the continued absence of prop Thomas Flegler with a shoulder nerve complaint since April last year.

Social media reacts to Alabama flipping 4-star quarterback from Big 12 program

On Tuesday afternoon, the Alabama Crimson Tide received some surprise news when 2026 quarterback prospect Jett Thomalla announced that he was flipping his commitment to the program from the Iowa State Cyclones. A commitment to Iowa State since April of 2025, Thomalla, a four-star prospect, is currently considered as the nation's No. 232 overall player according to the 247Sports Composite recruiting rankings, as well as the No. 16 quarterback nationally in the class out of Nebraska. There, Thomalla attends Millard South High School, and also ranks as the state's top 2026 recruit regardless of position. Advertisement This past season as a junior, Thomalla also left his mark on the football field for Millard South by completing 69.6% of passes for 3,664 yards and a 47:3 TD:INT ratio across 12 games. Following the commitment of Thomalla to Alabama, the Crimson Tide have likely now secured their quarterback in the 2026 recruiting class, and in the process, have brought their number of current commits in the cycle to seven total.
