Elon Musk's xAI releases Grok AI with vision and multilingual capabilities
Elon Musk 's artificial intelligence company xAI has introduced a new feature for its Grok chatbot called Vision. This feature allows the chatbot to analyse real-world objects, text, and environments through a user's device camera in real time. Available for free on Android and iOS, Grok Vision offers functionality similar to features already available in OpenAI's ChatGPT and Google Gemini.
According to xAI, Grok Vision enables users to scan and search anything in real time—including objects, symbols, and documents—by using their device's camera and asking questions about them. For example, users can show Grok a business card, office gate, or watch to receive instant information. As the camera moves, Grok responds with relevant answers in real time.

New features: Multilingual audio and voice search
Alongside Grok Vision, xAI also launched two additional features: Multilingual audio and real-time search in Voice Mode. The multilingual feature allows Grok to respond in several languages, including Hindi, Spanish, and Japanese. The voice search feature lets users ask questions aloud, with Grok retrieving fresh information and reading it back to the user.
These features are currently available to paid subscribers of the SuperGrok plan, which costs $30 per month. It is currently unclear whether these features will be extended to non-subscribers.
Memory function for personalised responses
In related developments, Grok recently introduced a memory function that enables it to recall earlier interactions, offering more personalised and context-aware responses. According to xAI, this feature improves Grok's ability to tailor its replies based on a clearer understanding of individual user preferences developed over time.

SSC updates 'mySSC' app enabling mobile Aadhaar-based job applications
Government job aspirants can now apply for Staff Selection Commission (SSC) exams using a newly upgraded mobile app, SSC Chairman S. Gopalakrishnan announced on June 5. The revamped 'mySSC' app aims to make the application process easier, especially for candidates in rural areas. 'All candidates applying for recruitment exams conducted by SSC can fill the entire application form through the (mobile) application itself,' he said. He added that candidates no longer need to visit computer centres or depend on cyber cafes to complete and submit their forms. Previously, many applicants had to rely on local service centres or pay intermediaries to fill out online forms. 'The candidates can also identify themselves through Aadhaar OTP and face authentication on the same app,' he said. A major update in the app, which works on Android devices running version 11 or higher, is the integration of Aadhaar-based authentication. Users must first register using their Aadhaar number on the One-Time Registration (OTR) page. Before submitting their application, candidates must also install the Aadhaar Face RD app on their phones to complete the face verification process. The SSC has cautioned that information entered in the OTR will be treated as final and will override Aadhaar details in case of any mismatch. The app, developed by Cubastion Consulting, is expected to significantly ease the overall experience of dealing with the SSC—from application to final joining. "By combining biometric verification with Aadhaar-enabled services, we're making mass recruitment fairer, more secure, and more accessible—especially for rural candidates," said Cubastion co-founder and Chief Executive Officer Ravi Kumar. "With the new mySSC app, candidates can now complete the entire process—from registration to application—directly on their mobile phones. It removes private middlemen from the system and puts power back into the hands of the applicants. Our future vision is to make this app a one-stop solution for the entire recruitment lifecycle," he added. According to an SSC notice dated June 2, 2025, candidates were earlier able to register online through the SSC website and could only upload a live photo via the mobile app. With the app update, "...the entire application process can now be completed seamlessly within the app itself," it said. "This will be applicable for all the exams being conducted June 2025 onwards," the notice added.

China claims to have fixed a 'critical flaw' in Elon Musk's Hyperloop system. (File) China Maglev Train: Chinese scientists working on the country's futuristic high-speed maglev train project have claimed to have solve a 'critical flaw', in the Hyperloop concept proposed in a 2013 white paper by tech billionaire Elon Musk. A study published in China's peer-reviewed Journal of Railway Science and Engineering noted that the tiniest of imperfections, such as uneven coils or bridge deformations, could cause major turbulence in a Hyperloop system, turning the journey into a hellish ride, even in near-vacuum tunnels. Chinese engineers find method to reduce turbulence However, Chinese engineers working at the world's first full-scale test line in central China, claimed to have found a method to cut the turbulence intensity by nearly a half, reducing 'extremely severe bumps' to 'pronounced, but not unpleasant' levels, according to a report by the South China Morning Post (SCMP). As per the SCMP report, the engineers led by Zhao Ming from the maglev and electromagnetic propulsion division of state-owned China Aerospace Science and Industry Corporation (CASIC), revealed they employed supercomputer simulations and scaled-down prototype tests for the study. The researchers discovered that minor irregularities in the track and electromagnetic resonance, could trigger violent low-frequency vibrations in maglev cars travelling at cruising speeds of 1,000km/h (612mph). Their study used Sperling Index, a 1940s-era international metric for ride comfort, to show that oscillations amplified at specific speeds, reaching 'extremely unpleasant' levels of vibration at a peak speeds 400km/h (249mph). As per the study, the Sterling Index hit a 4.2 when the maglev cars reached the next peak of 600km/h (373mph), but the vibrations reduced to a 3.1 level on the index once the cars reached cruising speeds of 1,000km/h, the report said. China's Maglev train breaks speed record The Maglev system, first proposed in 1910 by American engineer Robert Goddard, gained traction in 2013 after Elon Musk wrote a white paper on the subject. The Maglev train, so named as it uses magnetic levitation (maglev) technology to reach unimaginable speeds, does not need wheels unlike traditional trains. Instead the wheels are replaced with magnets which lift the pods above the track, allowing them to glide effortlessly over the magnetized track. Late last year, China claimed that its Maglev train reached a record-breaking speeding 387mph (over 622 kmph), tumbling the record of Japan's MLX01 Maglev, currently the world's fastest train, which has a top speed of 361mph. Chinese engineers believe that their maglev system will be able to reach hypersonic speeds of over 1,243mph or over 2000 kmph — faster than the speed of sound and double the speed of a Boeing 737 aircraft, once commercial operations begin. If estimates are accurate the maglev system would significantly reduce travel times across China, reaching Wuhan to Beijing in just over 30 minutes, in contrast to the current high-speed train which takes four hours to complete the journey.
