Report: Patriots use international pathway to sign defensive tackle

Yahoo01-08-2025
The New England Patriots added to their defense as training camp quickly approaches.
The Patriots signed defensive tackle David Olajiga via the international player pathway, NFL Media's Ian Rapoport reported on Sunday.
The England native won't count against New England's 90-man roster until final cuts are made.
Olajiga signed with the Los Angeles Rams last year as an undrafted free agent. He was cut before the regular season but returned to the practice squad. While the 27-year-old didn't appear in game in 2024, the Rams signed him to a reserve/future contract in January.
The Rams waived Olajiga in May.
In his final season at Central Missouri Olajiga amassed 41 total tackles and four sacks.
While he went undrafted in the 2024 NFL Draft, the defensive tackle was selected 10th overall by the Edmonton Elks in the 2024 CFL Global Entry Draft.
Olajiga has yet to make his NFL debut.

Raiders' run defense embarrassed in preseason debut vs. Seahawks

Raiders' run defense embarrassed in preseason debut vs. Seahawks originally appeared on The Sporting News The Las Vegas Raiders were fairly solid against the run in 2024, but the team is not off to a good start in 2025. Las Vegas gave up 116.9 rushing yards per game last season, ranking 13th in the NFL. However, the run defense looked like a shell of itself in the first quarter on Thursday night. The Raiders gave up 68 yards and a touchdown on nine carries in the first quarter, with George Holani leading the way for Seattle with seven carries for 61 yards and the score. His longest carry went for 24 yards. You never want to make too much of a preseason game, but the Raiders had all of their starters on the field for the first drive, and many starters stayed in for the remainder of the first quarter. Also bear in mind that the Seahawks did not play their starters, so the Raiders gave up those numbers against Seattle's backups. Not good. We'll see if Las Vegas can bounce back in their preseason Week 2 game against the San Francisco 49ers on Saturday, Aug. 16. Ashton Jeanty debut grades: Raiders rookie RB underwhelms in limited action vs. Seahawks

Ashton Jeanty debut grades: Raiders rookie RB underwhelms in limited action vs. Seahawks originally appeared on The Sporting News Running back Ashton Jeanty has high expectations placed on his shoulders. The Boise State product is coming off an electric final season in college and is expected to help the Raiders turn their fortunes around even as a rookie. Jeanty nearly set all-time records at Boise State in 2024. He played in 14 games and ran for 2,601 yards with 29 touchdowns. Jeanty was on the heels of Barry Sanders' record of 2,628 yards in a season but fell just 27 yards short. His 29 touchdowns were eight shy of Sanders' record of 37. Even though the Raiders are just starting the preseason, there is pressure for Jeanty to show that he was worth the No. 6 overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft off rip. Las Vegas traded for quarterback Geno Smith this offseason and hired former Seattle head coach Pete Carroll to try to right the ship. While there are still plenty of upgrades on both sides of the ball that the Raiders need to explore, the hope is that the offense runs through Jeanty all season, and that starts on Thursday night in the preseason opener against Seattle. 📲 Follow The Sporting News on WhatsApp Here's a look at how Jeanty fared in his first taste of NFL game action. Grading Ashton Jeanty's rookie debut Grade: C Unfortunately, there wasn't a ton to grade. Jeanty was on the field for two drives, but the Raiders weren't able to move the ball on either. Jeanty had only three carries and amassed -1 yard from his workload. The offensive line could not provide any protection for him, and after an initial gain of three yards, he was dropped in the backfield. He picked up a few blocks on routine passing plays, but ultimately, he did nothing notable in the passing game either. As mundane as this performance was, Jeanty should be fine in the long run. The rookie will almost assuredly lead the team in touches and will get ample opportunity to show what he can do throughout the rest of the preseason and regular season. This first preseason game, though? He will have to have the mind of a goldfish and instantly turn his attention to the team's game next week. The lone reason that he didn't get a "D" or an "F" for his debut was that he had a sweet, spur-of-the-moment spin move to avoid a tackle before the offensive line collapsed and allowed him to get taken down in the backfield. MORE NFL: Complete list of Super Bowl MVP winners through the years Ashton Jeanty debut stats Carries: 3 Yards: -1 Touchdowns: 0 Targets: 0 Receptions: 0 The first play of the game was a fake to Jeanty. The rookie's first carry went for three yards. That was the only action he received on his first drive. Seattle took out Geno Smith for the second drive but left Jeanty in. The rookie got a carry on second down. He hit a nice spin move but was tackled in the backfield as the offensive line didn't provide much support. After a first down, Jeanty got a carry and picked up a few yards. There was a penalty for offensive offside, but it was declined to bring up second down. Jeanty was then subbed out, and the Raiders couldn't convert a first down on the next two plays and had to punt. Seahawks QB accidentally jinxed into throwing pick by broadcaster

Former Seattle Seahawks player and current broadcast analyst Michael Robinson accidentally jinxed quarterback Seahawks quarterback Drew Lock during the latter's 2025 home preseason opener on Thursday night. As Lock took starting snaps for Seattle in the preseason game against the Las Vegas Raiders, Robinson mentioned on the game broadcast that a benefit to playing Lock was that he was "just not going to put the ball in harm's way." The point was valid in the sense that Lock gave the Seahawks a steady veteran to guide its second-team offense during early preseason snaps in a way a younger player couldn't. However, Robinson didn't do Lock any favors as the veteran quarterback threw an interception just a couple of plays after the broadcaster's comment. Whoops! Well, it happens. Lock isn't immune to throwing picks, even in preseason competition. Robinson will probably get a good laugh out of this once he reflects on his accidental jinxing of his former team's quarterback. When did Michael Robinson play for the Seahawks? Robinson played fullback for Seattle from 2010-13.
