Serena Williams' Super Bowl Cameo Explained: Surprise Appearance Was ‘Nasty Work' From Kendrick Lamar
In what has already been a whirlwind year for the rapper and his Grammy Award-winning diss track 'Not Like Us,' Lamar decided to place the hit song on America's biggest stage. It was already announced that SZA would appear and perform a couple of their duets, but Lamar surprised the audience with a cameo from tennis legend Serena Williams.
Williams and Drake actually have their own history, having reportedly dated on-and-off from 2011 to 2015. Drake referenced Williams in his 2013 song 'Worst Behavior,' and then again in 2022 when he called out her husband, Alexis Ohanian, in his song 'Middle of the Ocean,' calling him a 'groupie.'
The tennis star did not return his volleys – but she did decide to perform alongside his foe, Lamar. The Lamar-Drake beef is explained in detail here, but the two rappers released back-to-back diss tracks at one another in the spring of 2024, with Lamar doubling down on allegations that Drake has sexual relationships with minors (and even got the entire Super Bowl arena and the Grammys audience to sing it along with him).
The shared enemy may not have been the only reason Williams and Lamar teamed up for the performance. Both were born and raised in Compton, California. The tennis star paid homage to her hometown by crip walking to 'Not Like Us.' Social media users online quickly clocked the dance move as the same one she got in trouble for at Wimbledon. Williams responded saying if she danced like that on the court she 'would've been fined.'
Other fans online called the Williams' cameo 'nasty work' from Lamar. Another fan called it 'chaotic good.'

On Friday, the 'Something in the Orange' singer — and Philadelphia Eagles fan — took what sounded like a jab at the Chiefs on X, writing: 'Where are all the three-peat people from last year?' Chiefs fans responded quickly and things went downhill from there, as fans from other teams hopped in. 'You're clearly insane dude.' 'The Chiefs won more Super Bowls in a 5 year span than the Eagles have won in franchise history.' 'Eagles fan from *checks notes* Oklahoma obsessed with Kansas City Chiefs.' 'Did someone from KS hurt you? Do we need to wipe your little baby bum bum for you?' 'Go (bleep) yourself. You keep talking that (bleep) and yet tour here. Don't come back.' An hour after his first tweet, Bryan posted: 'Please understand I will never play in Kansas City.' The tweet has been seen by nearly 2 million people. Perhaps he meant again, because nearly 20,000 fans watched the final stop on his 2023 tour, 'Burn, Burn, Burn,' at T-Mobile Center, setting an attendance record hailed as 'impressive' by the arena's general manager. And he returned to T-Mobile last year with his 'Quittin Time' tour. Why 'White Lotus' creator Mike White is returning to 'Survivor'
When "Survivor" host Jeff Probst decided to bring back contestant Mike White for the reality competition's 50th season, he knew White would be showing his hand. White, a one-time participant on the show, has since become the famed mastermind behind "White Lotus," the popular resort-based drama on HBO. "The thing that's most interesting about Mike playing for the second time is there is no hiding that he is the biggest writer, director, show creator in the world right now, and he wanted to come back and play 'Survivor,'" Probst told the Hollywood Reporter in an interview published Aug. 7. "So I can understand why people had a reaction." 'White Lotus' creator Mike White's next tropical island is return to 'Survivor' The long-running competition show features a group of "castaways" facing off in challenges on a remote island for the chance to take home $1 million. Among the first crop of reality shows to make it big when the format burst onto the scene in the early 2000s, it requires a mix of physical strength and personal cunning to forge alliances and read other contestants. While Probst, the show's longtime host, acknowledges the oddity of an Emmy-winning director opting to return to the dusty isles of survivordom, he thinks people aren't asking the right questions. "I'm surprised people aren't asking, 'Why is one of the greatest writers in the history of Hollywood so interested in 'Survivor?'" he told THR. "What is it that Mike is learning about humans and behavior and situational ethics that he applies to his craft? Because I think that's part of why he does it — he's out there in a real incubator of human behavior where you never know what's going to happen, but what you do know is that if you show up to play 'Survivor', you can study it." 'Survivor' Season 50 cast: Which returning players are playing for $1 million? "He's arguably the single best storyteller we've ever had on 'Survivor,'" he told THR. "I'm grateful to consider him a friend, because I learn from Mike every day. You're talking (about) one of the best of all time, and the fact that he said yes to 'Survivor' still brings a smile on my face.' When is 'Survivor' Season 50 airing? No official premiere date has been released, but the show's 50th season is expected to begin airing on CBS in spring 2026.
