Ishan Kishan's iconic 200: The moment Shikhar Dhawan knew his India career was over
The game itself was also evolving, with greater emphasis on power-hitting and clearing the ropes with ease. Dhawan, known more for his timing and fluency, did not quite fit into the new approach. Instead, Ishan Kishan, a fearless young batter from Jharkhand, entered the frame and made headlines with his record-breaking double century against Bangladesh, becoming the youngest to achieve the feat in ODIs. That record was later surpassed by Shubman Gill, who scored 208 against New Zealand in 2023.At that point, Dhawan realised that his time in the Indian jersey was likely over.advertisement"I was scoring lots of 50s, I didn't score a 100, but I scored lots of 70s. When Ishan Kishan scored that 200, my instinct told me, alright boy, this can be the end of your career. An inner voice came to me. And that's what happened. Then I remember my friends came over to, you know, give me that emotional support. They thought that I would be very down. But I was chilling, I was enjoying," Dhawan said in an interview with Hindustan Times. What made the moment even tougher was that, apart from head coach Rahul Dravid, no one from the team reached out to him. Dhawan, however, said he did not take it personally and that such things were normal in professional sport."No, it doesn't happen that way," he said."Maybe I spoke to Rahul (Dravid) Bhai. He messaged me. Everyone has their own journey, and they are doing work or they are on tours, that's something very normal. We are used to it from the age of under 14, this is not the first time I am getting dropped or getting in," he added.Despite the quiet exit, Dhawan continues to be fondly remembered for his iconic performances. His energy, flair and ability to rise to the occasion made him a fan favourite and a key figure in one of the most formidable white-ball batting units India has produced. - EndsTrending Reel

Objective is to raise awareness, bring events like Diamond League to India: Neeraj Chopra on NC Classic
Bengaluru: Tokyo Olympics gold medallist Neeraj Chopra has reaffirmed his long-term vision to transform the athletics landscape in India, starting with the inaugural Neeraj Chopra Classic (NC Classic). Speaking ahead of the javelin meet here on Friday, Chopra shared his dream of creating a platform where international and Indian athletes compete shoulder to shoulder in India. Chopra, who is not only the NC Classic organiser but also a competitor, opened up on the core objective behind staging the World Athletics 'A category' meet in India, saying, "The objective is that we have won medals, everything is done. Now, how can we raise javelin? How can we raise athletics? So, about an event, I always used to say that I have a big dream that there should be such an event in India where international athletes compete and our Indian athletes also play with them. So, this is happening. "World Athletics, AFI, and brands are supporting from all sides. The Karnataka government has given a lot of support. I am very happy about it. And as you said, all the foreign athletes have come. So, I am very excited to compete with them in India," Chopra told IANS. Asked what India needs to do to realise its ambition of hosting the 2036 Olympics, reigning world champion Neeraj Chopra stressed the importance of hosting prestigious global events like the Diamond League, an elite annual track and field series. "I want to talk about the TOPS. I have been at the Target Olympic Podium Scheme for many years. And I am getting a lot of help continuously. I compete outside. I do training. So, I am getting a lot of support. Plus, I want such events to happen. "And we should try to bring events like the Diamond League here. Because it is a very prestigious event. And it happens every year. So, if something like this happens, it will be very good in itself. So, this is the beginning. So, we can think about how we can do something bigger in the future," he added. Chopra, who entered the elusive 90m club when he threw the spear at a distance of 90.23 metres at the Doha Diamond League in May, reaffirmed his confidence in staying focused and composed under all circumstances. "There's absolutely no pressure. Earlier too, I always gave my 100 per cent with focus, and that remains the same even now. I am really happy that I have finally crossed the 90-meter mark," he signed off.

'Very Bad Bowler': Prasidh Krishna Trolled For Super Expensive Spell In 2nd Test
Last Updated: While Smith kept on humiliating Krishna on the field, fans did the same on social media. Baffled over the pacer's bowling, here's how they reacted. Indian pacer Prasidh Krishna faced the wrath of fans on social media for his extremely expensive spells against England in the ongoing second Test at Edgbaston, Birmingham. India had a couple of early breakthroughs in the morning session with Mohammed Siraj taking down Joe Root and captain Ben Stokes on consecutive deliveries. However, the camaraderie between Jamie Smith and Harry Brook took the momentum away from India with a solid 200-plus partnership for the sixth wicket. While the Indian pacers had a tough day at the office, Krishna bore the maximum brunt with an economy of over 6. It was the 32 nd over of the English innings when Smith launched a brutal assault on the Indian quick, smashing him [4, 6, 4, 4, 4] 23 runs in five deliveries. And not just that. The match-up against Krishna and Smith was intense. The pacer tried to trouble Smith with a barrage of short balls, but the latter looked ready for it. The England wicketkeeper-batter stayed one step ahead, pulling and hooking with ease, sending the ball racing to the boundary multiple times. While Smith kept on humiliating Krishna on the field, fans did the same on social media. Baffled over the pacer's bowling, here's how they reacted: Arshdeep singh is sitting in the dressing room, and Prasidh Krishna gets to play consecutive Test matches. Guy can't bowl six deliveries without getting hit for a boundary. And yet, he finds a place in the Indian 11 after being not just massacred but looking mediocre. He has no sense of line and length.— Sahil Mohan Gupta (@DigitallyBones1) July 4, 2025 Jamie Smith is treating Prasidh Krishna like he's the neighbourhood bowler who just came to return the ball and got dragged into the match! 😄 — Tanuj (@Tanujkaswan) July 4, 2025 Earlier, England resumed at 77/3 but quickly slipped to 84/5 as Siraj removed Root (22) and Stokes (0) in the second over of the morning. Root gloved one down the leg side, while Stokes fell to a sharp bouncer first ball. Jamie Smith and Harry Brook counter-attacked, shifting momentum. Smith took apart Prasidh Krishna in the 12th over of the session, smashing 23 runs with four fours and a six. Krishna's next over went for 11, ending the session with 8-0-61-0. Smith also attacked Jadeja and Sundar and reached his second Test hundred off 80 balls with back-to-back boundaries before lunch. First Published: July 04, 2025, 19:08 IST

What is NC Classic javelin throw event, and what is its significance?
India will witness a defining moment in its athletics journey on Saturday, 5 July 2025, as Bengaluru hosts the inaugural Neeraj Chopra Classic (NC Classic) — the country's first-ever international competition dedicated exclusively to the javelin throw. This one-day event is named after India's Olympic and world champion Neeraj Chopra, whose global achievements have transformed public perception of field events in India. The NC Classic is a forward-looking initiative aimed at developing the sport further by providing a high-performance platform for elite and emerging talent alike. What makes the NC Classic special? Unlike multi-event track and field meets, the NC Classic is focused solely on the javelin throw — a discipline long overshadowed in India by cricket and track events. This event is a first-of-its-kind attempt to elevate a single field event to a standalone spectacle. The NC Classic promises fans an up-close experience of world-class javelin action while offering young Indian athletes the rare chance to compete alongside and learn from global stars. The intent is not only to host a world-class competition but also to inspire future generations by showing them what's possible when talent meets opportunity. What is the significance of the Neeraj Chopra Classic event? The Neeraj Chopra Classic has been granted 'A' category status by World Athletics, placing it among the highest-tier competitions globally, such as the Continental Tour Gold events. This makes the NC Classic a crucial stop on the global athletics calendar. The designation allows participating athletes to earn significant world ranking points, which are vital for qualification to premier international tournaments. For India, this recognition puts the country on the map as a serious venue for field events, capable of drawing top international talent and setting new organisational benchmarks. Crucial qualifier for World Athletics Championships 2025 The 2025 NC Classic serves as an official qualifying meet for the World Athletics Championships, which will be held in Tokyo from 13 to 21 September. For several athletes, the meet in Bengaluru will represent one of the final opportunities to secure a place in the biggest event of the season. While Neeraj Chopra has already secured qualification, most of the international and domestic participants will be looking to meet the entry standards and boost their rankings.
