Orlando Pirates rumours: Mayele, Mabasa, Makgopa, Makhaula

Today's Orlando Pirates stories revolve around Fiston Mayele, Tshegofatso Mabasa, Evidence Makgopa and a crushing blow for Makhehlene Makhaula.
To make it financially viable, Pirates would need to sell some surplus stars to raise the reported R12 million needed to sign Fiston Mayele. Even though the club already has a number of top strikers, there's no harm in adding another. If Pirates decide to cash in on either Evidence Makgopa or Tshegofatso Mabasa, they'll need a replacement. It's unlikely both players will stick around with no guarantee of starting every league game.

According to KickOff, Orlando Pirates' 3-0 win against Golden Arrows came at a cost, with Makhehlene Makhaula forced off with a serious injury.
'The side's bad injury fortunes have seemingly stuck like glue as midfielder Makhehlene Makhaula became the latest casualty,' the report said.

Wearing the number 47 jersey, Simphiwe Selepe has made his full Betway premiership debut for the Buccaneers. His debut for the club came not long ago, as a substitute against Kaizer Chiefs earlier this month. DDC youngster Cemran Dansin, still just 17, was also named in the matchday squad, which beat Golden Arrows 3-0. The goals came courtesy of Tshegofatso Mabasa, Bandsile Shandu and Kabelo Dlamini.

Pirates find Maela, Mako successor [video]

Orlando Pirates will have to tap into the left-back market this window after losing two experienced players before next season. Pirates will see both captain Innocent Maela and long-serving star Paseka Mako depart the club at the end of the June. Maela, who saw his game time reduce more and more over the last two seasons, has a big decision to make. After saying goodbye to the Pirates fans on the field, he has reportedly been offered a role off it. Mako is also a long-serving player at Pirates who joined the club as far back as 2018. During his time at the Buccaneers, he amassed 173 appearances, mainly from left-back. Read the full version of the ' Orlando Pirates sign Innocent Maela and Paseko Mako replacement!' article. The departures of both Maela and Mako open a huge gap at left-back for Pirates. In fact, even before these departures they were already linked to players in those positions. The likes of Fawaaz Basadien as well as Vuyo Letlapa. While one of those two can still be signed, the Sea Robbers are not waiting on those pursuits. According to RSA writer Austin Ditlhobolo, they have already signed Nkosikhona Ndaba from Richards Bay FC. Looking for quick updates? List of players released by Orlando Pirates

Orlando Pirates could be facing one of their busiest transfer periods in the coming weeks. The Buccaneers finished second in the Betway Premiership and claimed their third consecutive MTN8 title. Despite a promising season, Pirates were unable to add more trophies. At one point, it seemed likely that the Sea Robbers might secure at least a treble, but poor form and a lack of signings in January caused the team to falter towards the end of the season. Compounding the disappointment, Jose Riveiro left the club to join Egyptian giants Al Ahly, which left Orlando Pirates fans disheartened. Last week, the club announced that they had parted ways with two defenders, Paseka Mako and Thabiso Monyane. Earlier, Innocent Maela and Miguel Timm also left the club. Now, the team must find replacements to strengthen their squad for the next season. According to various reports, Orlando Pirates are close to signing Tshepang Moremi from Amazulu and Sinoxolo Kwayiba from Chippa United. Another target is Stellenbosch and Bafana Bafana left-back Fawaaz Basadien, a quality defender who has also been linked to their Soweto rivals, Kaizer Chiefs. Orlando Pirates have yet to announce Riveiro's replacement or provide details about their pre-season schedule. Rulani Mokwena has been tipped to take over, but many Pirates fans are not enthusiastic about bringing the 38-year-old coach back. So far, the Buccaneers have released Monyane, Timm, Maela and Mako. More players are expected to depart the club in the coming weeks, according to reports. Another player who Orlando Pirates signed but failed to make his mark is Gilberto. The winger is currently with Petro de Luanda on loan and will likely stay there for another season. Kaizer Chiefs transfers: Percy Tau salary, Rapoo, Leaner

Today's Kaizer Chiefs transfer wrap looks at Percy Tau's massive wage demands and two other rumoured targets. According to iDiski Times, Chiefs have entered the race to sign top teenage prospect Neo Rapoo from SuperSport United. Orlando Pirates are known admirers of the full-back star. The 19-year-old SuperSport star recently tasted success with the Afcon U20 side. Talented midfield player Samkelo Zwane is one of five high-profile names likely to leave. The 23-year-old schemer has fallen down the pecking order. Senior statesmen Thabo Cele and Yusuf Maart hold down places. There are still question marks about Zwane's ability to do work off the ball.
