Anurag Kashyap took Hindi dictionary to CBFC screening when they objected on the word ‘chu***a': ‘What is the definition of an adult?'

Anurag Kashyap's run-in with the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) is as old as his film career itself. In fact, his very first feature film, Paanch (2003), faced the wrath of the board, which raised objections to depictions of violence, drug abuse and the use of bad language. Although the film eventually received the green signal, Paanch never got a theatrical release (due to reported financial issues). Even in the cases of his subsequent movies, such as Black Friday (2004) and Bombay Velvet (2015), Anurag locked horns with the CBFC.
Recently, he indirectly addressed the Janaki v/s State of Kerala controversy, in which the board demanded changes to the title and the name of the titular character, Janaki, as they also refer to Goddess Sita. 'If, in your writing, your characters can't be named after any of the characters that have been part of mythology… It's very strange. You have to look for it. They can't be named after living characters, too. What is left there? You should call your characters XYZ? 1234? ABC? You can't have surnames, nor characters with greyness or negative shades and blackness in them. They will have to be white. Lots of films are not coming out when they address these issues,' he pointed out during a chat with The Juggernaut.
'This handholding does not let you grow. This handholding happens only when you don't want your audience to grow. What is the definition of an adult? An adult is a person who can think for themselves. Yet, you don't want people to think for themselves and make the choice of whether something's good or bad for them. You are making the choice. The [OTT] platforms are making the choice. Everybody's making the choice except the individual concerned,' he said, adding that this wouldn't stop people from watching what they wish to, and that the only outcome would be more people turning to piracy.
He also pointed out that movies offering moral science lessons and messages urging people to do good don't bring about any actual changes. Anurag stated that cinema — and art in general — should hold a mirror up to society, allowing people to see their own ugliness. 'So that they can look at their own horrific ugliness, prejudices, biases, narrow-mindedness, et al. But you can't hold a mirror like that anymore because people don't want to look at it. Cinema and culture have to purify all things. There are viral clips showing big politicians abusing. But they are in denial about these don't exist anymore,' the renowned filmmaker added.
Alleging that most people making such decisions don't know Hindi, Anurag added that even those who get offended don't understand the language. Pointing out that the word 'chu***a' basically means a stupid person and nothing more, he stated that since the CBFC is based in Maharashtra and people there don't know Hindi, they have attributed unnecessary meanings to the word. 'So, for my first film, I literally had to carry a Hindi shabdkosh (dictionary) with me. Now, they don't even allow you to take your phone inside,' he added.

Internet Can't Handle This Cat Riding A Leopard: ‘Billi Mausi For A Reason'

Some social media users pointed out that the video looked too perfect to be true and called it AI-generated. Cats have always had a reputation for being unapologetically confident. The way they carry themselves with calm eyes and a composed look often makes people stop and wonder if the cat is judging them. Now, a video has surfaced online that takes this fearless image to an entirely new level. The now-viral clip, shared on Instagram, shows a cat sitting calmly on the front porch of a house. Everything seems normal until the peaceful night suddenly takes a wild turn as a leopard appears from nowhere. But instead of running away in fear, the cat does what cats are known for and acts like it owns the place. It stands up, lets out a meow and then surprisingly both the cat and the leopard are seen leaving together. That moment alone left viewers stunned. But the video didn't stop there. Watch The Video: Since being shared online, the video has accumulated more than eighty million views. But while the Internet showered the clip with love and admiration, many users also raised eyebrows at how unreal it seemed. Comments soon started pouring in, questioning the authenticity of the footage. Several users pointed out that the video looked too perfect to be true and called it AI-generated. A user commented, 'I was like it's too good to be true and remembered AI exists." Still, not everyone was too bothered by that possibility. 'At this point, I don't care anymore if it's AI or not. I love this cat content," another stated. Someone else said, 'The cat decided to aura farm," while a person jokingly added, 'My granny won't let the cat out after seeing this." A popular Hindi children's rhyme also found its way into the comments section. One user said, 'Billi mausi for a reason." A viewer clearly impressed wrote, 'That cat is an agent for sure." The Instagram page that posted the video has a history of sharing similar content, where the cat is consistently portrayed as the ultimate ruler. The feed is filled with clips showing the same feline in equally unbelievable scenarios. In one video, the cat is seen sitting on a whale; in another, it's perched on a panda. Saiyaara Box Office Collection Day 5: Ahaan Panday-Aneet Padda's film headed for ₹150 crore mark

Ever since the release of Ahaan Panday and Aneet Padda's debut film, Saiyaara, comparisons with Aashiqui 2 have been inevitable. Interestingly, both romantic dramas are helmed by filmmaker Mohit Suri. Now, in a major milestone, the YRF-backed Saiyaara has officially surpassed the worldwide lifetime earnings of Aashiqui 2. As per industry tracker Sacnilk, Saiyaara earned ₹ 25 crore on Day 5. While there was a slight dip in daily earnings, these are dynamic figures based on morning, afternoon, and evening show data, and the overall trend remains strong. So far, the film has collected Rs132.25 crore at the domestic box office. After a massive opening weekend, Saiyaara has held steady during weekdays, with consistent footfalls at theatres. Saiyaara began its box office journey with a record-breaking opening of ₹ 21.5 crore and continued its strong run through the weekend, peaking at ₹ 35.75 crore on Sunday. By the end of Tuesday, the film's total earnings had reached ₹ 132.25 crore, with a Hindi occupancy rate of 46.39% that day. In just five days, Saiyaara has outperformed the lifetime India collections of Salman Khan's Eid release Sikandar ( ₹ 110.1 crore) and Akshay Kumar and Veer Pahariya's Sky Force ( ₹ 112.75 crore). The film now sets its sights on surpassing the ₹ 153.55 crore benchmark set by Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani. Morning Shows: 29.90% Afternoon Shows: 52.31% Evening Shows: 56.96% Night Shows: 71.94% Delhi NCR and Mumbai continue to lead in terms of show count and audience turnout. Meanwhile, strong performance was also noted in tier-2 and tier-3 cities like Pune, Jaipur, Lucknow, and Chandigarh. Internationally, the film is also showing impressive momentum. On Monday, Saiyaara reached ₹ 151 crore in global collections. This includes an India Net Collection of ₹ 107.25 crore and an Overseas Collection of ₹ 23 crore. Its India Gross Collection stood at ₹ 128 crore by Day 4. With this, Saiyaara has crossed the lifetime global collections of Aashiqui 2, which starred Shraddha Kapoor and Aditya Roy Kapur, and is now the fifth Hindi film of 2025 to enter the ₹ 150 crore club. It has also overtaken the earnings of Akshay Kumar's Kesari Chapter 2 ( ₹ 144 crore), which released earlier this year. Shraddha Kapoor recently watched Saiyaara in theatres and couldn't hold back her emotions. She shared a heartfelt note on Instagram, writing, 'Saiyaara se Aashiqui ho gayi hai mujhe' (I've fallen in love with Saiyaara). Reacting to her post, Ahaan Panday shared a touching response: 'Working under you on Rock On 2, being assigned to fix your piano, the serendipity of assisting on a rock music film, to getting to be a part of one… I remember you taking out the time to speak to me for a few seconds, and your words weighing heavy on me.'

This singer who gave tough competition to Lata Mangeshkar, made 170 songs, later faded into poverty, Salman Khan helped her; She was...

Between 1950 and 1970, the golden age of Hindi cinema echoed with the voices of Lata Mangeshkar and Mohammed Rafi. Their songs played on every radio station, at every celebration, and became an integral part of India's musical identity. But there was another voice, soaked in simplicity, pain, and raw emotion—that once shared the stage with these legends. Her name was Mubarak Begum. Where did her journey in music begin? Mubarak Begum began singing for All India Radio in her childhood. Her first break in films came in 1949, with the movie Aiye , where she sang 'Mohe Aane Lagi Angdaayi' and also shared a duet with Lata Mangeshkar, 'Aao Chale Sakhi Wahan'. The years that followed brought her moments of glory. In Devdas (1955), she gave us 'Woh Na Aayenge Palat Kar', a haunting melody. She moved hearts with 'Hum Haal-e-Dil Sunayenge' in Madhumati (1958). But it was her soulful rendition of 'Kabhi Tanhaiyon Mein Yun' from Hamari Yaad Aayegi (1961) that became her most iconic song. How many songs did she sing? In her lifetime, Mubarak Begum sang in over 110 films, lending her voice to more than 170 songs. Her voice had sweetness, pain, and purity, yet, as the industry evolved, support dwindled. New trends came. New voices took over. Work dried up. By the 1970s, she had almost entirely vanished from the playback scene. But she never gave up her love for music. What happened to her later in life? Age caught up. Her health declined. So did her financial condition. She lived with her son, daughter-in-law, and granddaughter in a tiny one-room flat in Mumbai's Jogeshwari area. Her family barely managed to survive. Her only steady income came from her late husband's meagre pension. Her son worked occasionally as a driver, and her daughter-in-law, Zarina Hussain Sheikh, became her full-time caregiver. Did anyone from the film industry help her? When things got worse, the family had to ask for help. And surprisingly, Salman Khan was the only person from the industry who came forward regularly. Zarina shared with the media, 'Salman Khan was the only one who kept helping us and bore all of her medical expenses.' In 2016, even then-minister Vinod Tawde extended a hand. While government aid didn't materialise, a trust run by his associates helped with some financial relief. How did her story end? Mubarak Begum breathed her last on 18 July 2016, at the age of 80. No grand tributes. No star-studded send-off. Just silence. The voice that once brought emotion to the silver screen slipped away quietly, like the last note of an old, forgotten song.
