War Of Words Among MPs draws Speaker's Ire
KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 13 (Bernama) -- A commotion sparked by a war of words among several Members of Parliament drew the ire of Dewan Rakyat Speaker Tan Sri Johari Abdul, who described the incident as highly embarrassing.
'What is this? What kind of elected representatives are you? Very shameful of you all, shameful. You're adults, not children, to be quarrelling like this,' he said.
The incident followed a verbal clash between government and opposition MPs after the debate on the 13th Malaysia Plan (13MP) by Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang (PN-Marang).
Chong Zemin (PH-Kampar) stood up citing Standing Order 36(1) of the Dewan Rakyat Standing Orders, stating that the PAS president did not touch on 13MP at all in his debate.
This led to a commotion lasting about seven minutes, involving, among others, opposition MPs Datuk Seri Shahidan Kassim (Arau), Mohd Syahir Che Sulaiman (Bachok), Datuk Che Mohamad Zulkifly Jusoh (Besut) and government MP RSN Rayer (Jelutong), while Suhaizan Kaiat (PH-Pulai) was chairing the session.
Johari then entered the chamber to chair the sitting and admonished certain MPs for engaging in heated exchanges, including the use of inappropriate language.
'There are schoolchildren present (in the chamber). I heard from my chamber—MPs cursing, using inappropriate words, all unacceptable.
'If we want this country to progress, our leaders must also progress. This cannot go on,' he said.
Johari then instructed the Dewan Rakyat session to proceed with the debate by Young Syefura Othman (PH-Bentong) without further disruptions.

In a statement today, the AGC said this was because the royal pardon granted by the 15th Yang di-Pertuan Agong stated that Anwar had been fully pardoned and regarded as a person who had never committed any offence. 'Any challenge to the election of an MP should be through an election petition, as provided for under Article 118 of the Federal Constitution, and must be filed within the time frame set out under Section 38 of the Election Offences Act 1954,' it said. The AGC was responding to a suit filed by former Minister in the Prime Minister's Department P. Waytha Moorthy, who is seeking to nullify Anwar's election as Tambun MP and his appointment as Prime Minister. It said Waytha Moorthy's action was based on the argument that the pardon granted to Anwar did not include the annulment of his disqualification under Article 48(1)(e) of the Federal Constitution. 'The AGC respects the right of any individual to file an action in court. In this matter, the Court of Appeal, in the case of Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim v Mohd Khairul Azam Abdul Aziz [2023] 2 MLJ 545, decided that the King has the power to grant a pardon in respect of a conviction and sentence,' it said. On Aug 12, Waytha Moorthy filed an originating summons in the High Court here seeking a declaration that Anwar's appointment as Prime Minister on Nov 24, 2022, was unconstitutional, null and void. Kulim airport will complement, not compete with Penang, says Kedah councillor
KUALA KETIL: The state government will press for the inclusion of the Kulim International Airport (KXP) project in the 13th Malaysia Plan (13MP), describing it as crucial not only for Kedah, but also for the nation. State Industry and Investment Committee chairman Dr Haim Hilman Abdullah said the state's vision for a dedicated cargo airport was not intended to compete with Penang, but to complement it while positioning Kedah as a hub for northern regional development. "However, the federal government still views this project as if it is solely for Kedah, when in fact, we see it as a catalyst for northern regional development covering Kedah, Perlis, Penang and northern Perak. "This is a large and high-potential region that deserves federal support," he said at a press conference after a town hall with the Kedah State Development Corporation (PKNK) and industrial players here. Also present was PKNK chief executive officer Datuk Isahak Murat. Haim said the state's push for the project was within national interest. "Kedah is not just for Kedah, Kedah is for Malaysia. We hope the federal government can see the strategic position of the state in becoming an industrial development hub supported by infrastructure such as this cargo airport." He said six of the eight requirements for the project had been met, with only two outstanding, namely, obtaining the aerodrome licence and securing the airport's inclusion in the National Aerospace Strategic Plan. The state government, he added, had also submitted other proposals to Putrajaya for consideration in 13MP. "Many projects, whether related to logistics such as roads, airports and ports, or other aspects of economic development in Kedah, need to be prioritised and expedited," he said. In the town hall, Haim said the issues raised by industrial players were matters that could be addressed through the involvement and commitment of the relevant agencies. "This initiative by PKNK is commendable. The most important step after this session is to compile the list of issues and channel them to the relevant agencies. From there, we will obtain feedback on the timeframe for resolving these matters," he added.

Over 100,000 foreigners in Sabah registered in digital data system
KOTA KINABALU: A total of 113,282 foreigners employed in Sabah's plantation sector have registered in the centralised digital data system. Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail stated that the system facilitates real-time monitoring and management of foreign workers. He clarified that the digital data collection is unrelated to citizenship or permanent residency issues. The minister spoke after chairing key meetings on foreigner management and citizenship status in Sabah. The meetings were led by Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor at Menara Kinabalu. Saifuddin Nasution announced plans to expand data collection to agriculture, manufacturing, and mining sectors. A moratorium on enforcement will allow foreign workers time to register under the digital system. He emphasised the need for accurate data to shape policies on foreign residents in Sabah. The state government will provide a specific period for the moratorium's implementation. The meetings also addressed efforts to relocate the Palauh or Bajau Laut community for land-based employment. Saifuddin Nasution refuted claims that the community is neglected, highlighting government initiatives. Additionally, 1,247 out of 2,000 citizenship applications were approved at the JKKSK meeting. These applications spanned from 2021 to last year and were assessed under Article 15A of the Federal Constitution. Article 15A allows for citizenship grants in special circumstances.
