Vishal Jethwa reveals 'mother cleaned houses' for a living; he 'had doubts' about attending Cannes due to poor English

Hindustan Times2 days ago

Actor Vishal Jethwa recently marked his Cannes debut with the premiere of his film Homebound at the prestigious film festival. In a candid conversation with Zoom, Vishal reflected on his humble beginnings and revealed that just days before walking the red carpet, he had serious doubts about attending Cannes. Vishal admitted feeling extremely nervous ahead of his trip to the Cannes Film Festival. He was apprehensive about communicating in English and found the environment unfamiliar and intimidating. Surrounded by experienced professionals, Vishal felt overwhelmed and under pressure. Just a day before leaving for Cannes, the anxiety weighed so heavily on him that he contemplated not attending the event at all.
When asked if he could relate to his character in Homebound, Vishal revealed, "I also come from a poor family. I was so confident at Cannes because my sister told me, 'Don't be so stressed,' because in a literal way, I am the son of a domestic help. Main ek kamwali bai jo hoti hain, unka beta hun (I am the son of a woman who worked as a domestic worker). Meri mumma ne logon ke ghar pe jhaadu pochha kiya hai (My mother used to sweep and mop people's homes), she used to sell sanitary pads in a supermarket. My father used to sell coconut water. I have seen all of this. And I could relate all this to it. But not now, now my life has moved beyond that. But privilege is such a big thing — I never knew that."
He added, "Also, we tend to think privilege is only a positive word, that it only brings benefits. But that's not true. With privilege comes more responsibility. Like my co-actors, Ishaan and Janhvi, they've had privilege in their lives. We tend to think that the opportunities they've received mean their lives are sorted — but that's not true. They have to work just as hard. Many directors' and producers' kids have come and gone, but not all have succeeded. It's about who the audience accepts. So, just having privilege doesn't guarantee anything. They might get the opportunity, sure. We won't get those same opportunities. We have to deliver extraordinary performances. That's the difference. But this is not a complaint, just a fact."
Helmed by Neeraj Ghaywan, the film is backed by Karan Johar, Adar Poonawalla, Apoorva Mehta and Somen Mishra. The film stars Ishaan Khatter, Vishal Jethwa and Janhvi Kapoor in lead roles. Homebound follows the story of two childhood friends from a small village in North India who dream of becoming police officers, hoping the job will bring them the respect they never had. However, as they come closer to their goal, pressure and struggles begin to test their friendship. The film premiered at the Cannes Film Festival 2025, where it received a nine-minute standing ovation.

Dakota Johnson and Chris Martin SPLIT after 8 year romance: Reports

Dakota Johnson and Chris Martin have reportedly pulled the plug on their romance after nearly 8 years together. The couple who has been in an off-and-on relationship for nearly a decade, have now ended things again, and this time, insiders say it's for good. According to multiple sources cited by PEOPLE, the Materialists actress, and the Coldplay frontman, have broken up again. Representatives for both stars have not yet confirmed or denied the news. The couple, who were first linked in 2017, were last seen publicly on May 16 during a casual outing in Malibu. Earlier this year, they were photographed holding hands and walking about the busy streets of Mumbai, while in India for Coldplay's Music of the Spheres tour. Although at the time, they were plagued with break-up rumours, the two were spotted by fans looking loved up as they headed out on quiet romantic walks late evening, exploring the bylanes of the city. Rumours of an engagement had also been rife back in 2020, with a source confirming to PEOPLE in March 2024 that they had been engaged for 'years,' though they were in 'no rush' to marry. When breakup speculation surfaced in August 2024, Johnson's rep had denied the claims, insisting the couple were 'happily together.' by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Esse novo alarme com câmera é quase gratuito em Volta Redonda (consulte o preço) Alarmes Undo At the time, sources suggested they were navigating the challenges of balancing two busy careers, but still deeply committed. 'They've had issues and taken breaks in the past,' a source shared last year, 'but things were great. They were trying to make it work.' Another source had described the relationship as full of 'ups and downs,' yet stable — until now. News of the break up comes amidst the release of Daota's romantic film Materialists, co-starring Chris Evans and Pedro Pascal . The film, set to hit theatres on June 13 has been directed by Celine Song. Martin was previously married to actress Gwyneth Paltrow. The two co-parent their two kids Apple and Moses. ‘Born in Maharashtra, must be named in Marathi': Penguins now part of language row in Mumbai

NEW DELHI: A row has erupted in Mumbai over the naming of three newly hatched penguin chicks at the city's Byculla zoo with BJP leaders demanding they be given Marathi names instead of English ones. The protest, led by BJP functionary Nitin Bankar from the Byculla assembly constituency, took place outside the Veermata Jijabai Bhosale Botanical Udyan and Zoo — popularly known as Rani Baug — where the chicks were born earlier this year. 'When penguins were brought from abroad to the Veermata Jijabai Bhosale Botanical Udyan and Zoo, we accepted that their names would be in English. However, Penguin chicks born here, on the soil of Maharashtra, should be given Marathi names,' Bankar said. He claimed that repeated appeals to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), which runs the zoo, had gone unheard. The zoo had named the chicks Noddy, Tom, and Pingu — continuing a tradition of English names that began when the first batch of Humboldt penguins arrived from South Korea in 2016. Bankar said the protest was not just about naming animals, but also about recognising Marathi's classical language status. 'We stood firm on our demand, but it was ignored. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Giao dịch vàng CFDs với sàn môi giới tin cậy IC Markets Tìm hiểu thêm Undo I had even written to the BMC administration, but no one responded,' he said. The penguin chicks were born to two penguin couples in March, zoo officials said. The first, Popeye and Olive, welcomed Noddy on 3 March. Daisy and Donald had two hatchlings — Tom on 7 March and Pingu on 11 March. This was the first successful batch of chicks at the zoo in over a year. 'Tom gets his name to complement Jerry, a chick hatched in June 2023,' an official explained. 'Tom, being the elder sibling, often gets more food regurgitated by the parents. We end up feeding Pingu.' The chicks are being cared for by their parents and monitored by zoo staff. 'The babies are expected to start exploring the pool area once they are about three months old,' said Dr Abhishek Satam, biologist at the zoo. The hatchings have brought the total number of Humboldt penguins at the facility to 21. Zoo officials said they were fast-tracking expansion plans for the enclosure, which currently houses up to 25 birds. The proposed expansion — an additional 400 square feet — will increase capacity to around 40 penguins. With most of the birds now around 6–7 years old and able to breed until the age of 15, the zoo anticipates more additions in the coming years. The facility has drawn praise for its success in breeding the species in Indian conditions, officials said.

The language's literary tradition includes legendary figures like Kabir, Tulsidas, and Premchand, whose works continue to shape educational curricula and cultural discourse in India and beyond. The digital revolution has further propelled Hindi's reach. From apps and websites to social media platforms, there is growing availability of content in Hindi.
