He strongly condemned the DMK's "illogical and baseless" objections to the Centre's upcoming delimitation exercise. "Delimitation was a constitutionally mandated process aimed at ensuring fair representation for all citizens," Subhash said.
Subhash said that delimitation involves redrawing boundaries to reflect changes in population and ensure equitable representation.
"In simple terms, larger populations mean more representatives. That is the spirit of representative democracy," he said. He reminded that under Article 82, the Parliament is required to pass a Delimitation Act after every national census. "Article 170 provides for similar changes at the state level.
Delimitation exercises were carried out in 1952, 1963, 1973, and 2002," he said.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Tuesday (August 19, 2025) accused the Congress of making 'baseless' claims about 'vote theft' and targeting the Election Commission of India in 'collusion' with a Delhi-based think tank. This came after Sanjay Kumar, a psephologist and a professor with the Centre for the Study of Developing Societies (CSDS), who had shared voter data from two Maharashtra Assembly seats related to last year's State election in a post on X on Sunday (August 17, 2025), subsequently deleted his post on Tuesday (August 19, 2025), apologising for posting erroneous data. The post had claimed a significant decrease in voter numbers in two Assembly seats in the State election compared to the 2024 general election, which was held nearly six months earlier. 'Fake data' Reacting sharply, BJP national spokesperson Gaurav Bhatia lashed out at Mr. Kumar for posting 'false data' which he claimed was used by the Opposition to target the EC, calling it a 'dangerous game'. 'This survey organisation [CSDS] is nothing but a puppet at the hands of leaders like Rahul Gandhi who could not win people's trust. He needs such an organisation which can provide fake data and facts so that he can make baseless allegations,' Mr. Bhatia said. 'Congress leader Pawan Khera tweets on this and then deletes. Rahul Gandhi's baseless allegations are also based on CSDS data,' he added. Deleting his post on Tuesday (August 19, 2025), Mr. Kumar wrote on X, 'I sincerely apologise for the tweets posted regarding Maharashtra elections. An error occurred while comparing the data of 2024 LS and 2024 AS. The data in the row was misread by our Data team.' The erroneous tweet has since been removed, he said, adding, 'I had no intention of dispersing any form of misinformation.'

Chennai: As Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) gears up for its state conference in Madurai on August 21, the party is making a pointed political statement by invoking the legacies of Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) founder CN Annadurai and AIADMK (All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam) founder MG Ramachandran. The conference venue is adorned with a cutout of Annadurai and MGR placed alongside party chief Vijay, underscoring TVK's attempt to align its political journey with Tamil Nadu's two most decisive electoral moments. The official tagline reads, "The historic victories of 1967 and 1977 will return in 2026" and "Your Vijay is coming, Tamil Nadu in victory rally." By referencing 1967, when Annadurai ended the Congress's dominance, and 1977, when MGR's AIADMK swept to power, TVK is projecting Vijay as the next mass leader capable of reshaping the state's political landscape. Party insiders say that just as MGR's dominance kept the DMK out of power until his death, TVK could emerge as the disruptive force in 2026. Iconic Sivaji Ganesan, Vijayakanth, Sarathkumar and Kamal Haasan for instance, made their debuts when their screen careers were fading, and despite significant popularity, failed to reach the Chief Minister's chair. Superstar Rajinikanth, after years of anticipation, ultimately opted out of politics altogether. Since launching his party earlier this year, Vijay has declared the DMK as his political enemy and the BJP as his ideological enemy, ruling out both direct and indirect ties with the saffron party, effectively shutting the door on an alliance with the AIADMK. While Vijay has promised to share power if TVK secures victory in 2026, no major party has so far joined his alliance, leaving TVK to chart a largely solo path. The Madurai conference, seen as TVK's biggest show of strength yet, is also expected to serve as a launchpad for Vijay's statewide tour to meet people directly.
