Nellore (Andhra Pradesh) [India], June 10 (ANI): YSRCP women leaders held a massive protest in Andhra Pradesh's Nellore district, alleging rising incidence of atrocities on women under the TDP-led government in the State. They raised slogans against the government, expressing their strong opposition.
District Women's Wing President Lakshmi Sunanda stated that since the coalition government came to power, many innocent women have been subjected to atrocities. She alleged that the government has failed to provide protection to women.
'Despite having a woman as the Home Minister, incidents of crimes against women continue to occur every day. We want the state government to take immediate action against the attacks on women,' Sunanda said.
Meanwhile, YSRCP President and former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy has strongly condemned the arrest of senior journalist Kommineni Srinivasa Rao and the 'organised' attacks on Sakshi media offices across the state, calling it a deliberate and orchestrated assault on democracy.
In a statement posted on X, Jagan said that Chandrababu Naidu is twisting and misrepresenting words that Kommineni never said, just to implicate him and justify an unlawful arrest falsely. He alleged that as part of a pre-planned conspiracy, TDP-led mobs have vandalised Sakshi unit offices in several districts under the guise of protecting women's dignity.
'This is nothing but a political vendetta masked as concern for women,' Jagan stated.
Referring to past remarks by Chandrababu and his brother-in-law, Jagan questioned their moral standing. 'You once asked whether a daughter-in-law prefers her mother-in-law over her husband. Your brother-in-law even said that when you see a girl, you should either kiss her or make her pregnant..These are your standards when it comes to respecting women,' he said.
Jagan accused Chandrababu of completely failing to provide safety and justice to women and girls since returning to power. He highlighted the tragic case of Tanmayi, an intermediate student from Anantapur who went missing and was later found brutally murdered, with 'no swift action taken by authorities'.
He also pointed to the horrifying case in Ramagiri mandal of Sri Sathya Sai district, where a 9th class girl was blackmailed and raped by 14 men for six months, yet police did not act on her complaint due to fear tactics and negligence.
'In just one year of TDP rule, 188 women and girls were raped, and 15 of them were murdered after the assault. Hundreds of cases of harassment and violence have gone unpunished,' Jagan said, calling it a complete breakdown of law and order.
He also said that the TDP regime has destroyed education, healthcare, agriculture, and public safety. 'You gave fake promises like 'Super Six' and 'Super Seven' to win votes, but once in power, you betrayed every single promise. People now see you as a failed, corrupt, and incompetent Chief Minister.'
YS Jagan concluded by saying that to escape accountability, Chandrababu is using fake news factories and media manipulation to spread lies and divert attention. 'Your diversion politics won't work forever, Chandrababu garu. People are watching, and they will hold you accountable.' (ANI)

Key EBC face set to take over as new Bihar RJD chief: Who is Mangani Lal Mandal?

Veteran socialist leader and ex-MP, Mangani Lal Mandal, who belongs to the Extremely Backward Class (EBC), is set to become the new president of the RJD's Bihar unit. Mandal, 76, who returned to the Lalu Prasad-led RJD from the ruling JD(U) headed by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar this January, emerged as the RJD leadership's 'natural choice' for its Bihar unit chief with the party going all out to woo the politically-crucial EBCs in the run-up to the state Assembly polls slated for October-November this year. Mandal will succeed the outgoing state RJD chief Jagdanand Singh, a Thakur leader and close Lalu aide, who expressed his unwillingness to continue in his position, party sources said. The RJD has been conducting its organisation elections from the block to district levels in Bihar for the last four months. Its block and district presidents had been elected, reflecting a 'balanced social combination' with 'due representation' given to leaders from various groups including the EBCs and Scheduled Castes (SCs), sources said. For the state party president's post, whose election would take place on July 19, Mandal is the only candidate to have filed nomination. He is thus set to get elected to the post unopposed. The state RJD chief's election would be followed by the formation of the party's state committee leading to the expected re-election of Lalu as its national president by July-end. The RJD leadership's bid to pick Mandal, the former JD (U) national vice- president, as its new state chief months ahead of the Assembly polls assumes significance as he belongs to the EBC Dhanuk community, which accounts for over two per cent votes in Bihar. Dhanuks have been amomg top five most populous EBC groups, with the community concentrated in Madhubani, Supaul, Patna and Nalanda besides having a sizeable population in over a dozen other districts across the state. Mandal had started his political innings under the leadership of socialist icon and former Bihar CM Karpoori Thakur. He was once considered among the state's leading socialist faces that include Lalu and Nitish. However, while Lalu and Nitish grew in stature in due course, Mandal remained confined to the EBC-centric, region-specific (Kosi and Mithilanchal) politics. Mandal was first nominated to the Bihar Legislative Council in 1986 as a Lok Dal nominee when Karpoori Thakur had been the Leader of the Opposition in the state Assembly. He had been the MLC for three consecutive terms till 2004. He had once also served as a minister in the RJD-led government. After he switched to the JD(U), the latter had in 2004 sent Mandal to the Rajya Sabha. He contested the 2009 Lok Sabha elections from the Jhanjharpur constituency on the JD(U)'s ticket successfully. In subsequent years, he kept switching sides. He rejoined the JD (U) before the 2019 Lok Sabha polls. Although he did not get the Lok Sabha poll ticket then, he was appointed as the national party vice-president. Mandal was only the second person in the JD(U) to have got this position after Prashant Kishor, who is now the Jan Suraaj Party supremo. A senior RJD leader said: 'Mangani Lal Mandal has been the most credible EBC face. His election as new RJD chief will surely send across strong message among EBCs about RJD's efforts to practise A to Z (inclusive) politics, more so at a time when all parties have been vying with each other for votes of the EBCs, which make up about 36.1 per cent of the state's population.' On his part, Mandal told reporters: 'It (Bihar RJD chief's post) would be a matter of great honour for me. It is a challenge and responsibility in the election year. I am thankful to the party's national president Lalu Prasad and Leader of Opposition Tejashwi Prasad Yadav for it.'

Bengaluru stampede: Two senior IAS officers under scanner over RCB felicitation mishandling

The Karnataka government is now scrutinising the involvement of two senior IAS officers in the organisation of a felicitation event for IPL champions Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) on June 4, which preceded a stampede that claimed 11 lives outside the M Chinnaswamy Stadium, Indian Express reported. According to the report, the investigation includes a close look at miscommunications and decisions made by top officials, including the former political secretary to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. The Indian Express report also reveals that these officers were instrumental in persuading the Congress-led state government to approve an official state felicitation at the Vidhana Soudha, even as the Bengaluru police had raised red flags over crowd control and security clearances. (Also Read: Bengaluru stampede: IPS body demand revocation of suspension of 5 cops) The felicitation, scheduled for 4 pm on June 4, was followed by a separate fan event organised by the RCB and the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) at the stadium, where the stampede occurred. DPAR secretary Sathyavathi G, who oversaw the Vidhana Soudha event after receiving approvals from the chief secretary and CM, had publicly stated that a victory parade would follow the felicitation. This was despite the absence of a police green light for such a parade. Video recordings from her media address on June 4 show her urging fans to skip the Vidhana Soudha event due to security sensitivities and instead attend the stadium celebration. However, the report also suggests that her public remarks contradicted a meeting held earlier that day, where the city police commissioner reportedly objected to the parade. Police have since filed criminal complaints against RCB, KSCA, and event manager DNA Networks, alleging that social media messages promoting an open-access parade were shared without police clearance as early as 7 am on June 4, contributing to crowd chaos at the stadium. The role of K Govindaraju, the CM's former political secretary and a seasoned sports administrator, is also under scrutiny. Reports say he was pivotal in pushing through approvals for the celebrations. Following the tragedy, he was dismissed from his post on June 6, the report further added. Three senior IPS officers, including Police Commissioner B Dayananda, were suspended on June 5 for failing to keep the CM informed of unfolding developments, including the fatalities.

'Significant damage': Iran breaches Iron Dome, strikes Israel's 'Pentagon' in Tel Aviv

Iran launched a powerful retaliatory strike late Friday night, targeting one of Israel's most heavily guarded military sites, the Kirya compound in Tel Aviv, following Israel's Operation Rising Lion, which targeted Iran's nuclear facility at Natanz. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now The Kirya, often referred to as Israel's version of the Pentagon, houses the Israel Defence Forces' (IDF) general staff, the ministry of defence, and critical military command and intelligence units. It also includes Camp Rabin, named after former Israeli Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin, and is considered vital for Israel's national security operations. According to reports, Iran fired a barrage of missiles at the Tel Aviv-based military complex, striking deep into Israel's defence infrastructure. Israel's well-known Iron Dome air defence system failed to stop the targeted attack launched by the Khamenei-led Islamic Republic. The New York Times verified alarming social media footage showing a missile slamming into the area, causing what was described as "significant damage." "This is Israel's version of the Pentagon, the Kiryat, and the building on this compound was just hit," Fox News reported. "There is significant damage." The dramatic videos showed Israel's air defence systems firing interceptors into the night sky moments before a large explosion lit up central Tel Aviv. One of the warheads appears to have penetrated Israel's defences and struck a sensitive command site. Fox News correspondent on the ground described the incoming attack as a "massive amount" of Iranian ballistic missiles, forcing them to take cover during the live report. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now "These ballistic missiles make the rockets that were being fired from Gaza look like toys," the correspondent said, adding that Iran used around 150 ballistic missiles to hit residential areas and military facilities in and around Tel Aviv. The IDF has not officially confirmed that its headquarters were struck but released footage showing Iran firing waves of ballistic missiles into Israeli territory. "The IDF cannot, and will not, allow Iran to attack our civilians," the military said in a post on X. Iran's targeting of the Kirya marks a major escalation in the ongoing conflict, as the site is one of the most sensitive and strategically important in the country, coordinating military planning, intelligence, and operational command.
