Man Utd could land £35m for Andre Onana as newly-promoted side eye transfer

Daily Mirror24-05-2025

Manchester United's finances are in a mess and the club will need to sell big-earning players this summer after failing to qualify for the Champions League following their Europa League Final nightmare
Manchester United keeper Andre Onana is wanted by newly promoted Saudi Pro League side Neom SC in a £35million deal. Uncertainty hangs over the future of the Cameroonian, two years since his £47m arrival from Inter Milan.
Onana, signed by former United boss Erik ten Hag, who managed him at Ajax, would earn a whopping £15m-a-year net of tax if he joined the Saudi First Division champions.

Ambitious Neom have the backing of Newcastle 's owners, the Saudi Public Investment Fund, and have also been linked with a move for Manchester City 's departing Kevin De Bruyne. They completed successive promotions with the help of ex-West Ham and Brentford winger Said Benrahma, on loan from Lyon.

Onana, 29, still has three years remaining on his contract but has been the target of criticism for a series of howlers in his time with United.
And he came under fire again on Wednesday after failing to keep out Brennan Johnson's deflected winner for Tottenham in the Europa League final in Bilbao.
The Red Devils are in desperate need of funds after failing to win the Europa League, and with it a return to the Champions League.
Every member of United's squad is effectively up for sale, including skipper Bruno Fernandes, with a major rebuild under Ruben Amorim anticipated this summer as owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe looks to bring costs way down.
Alejandro Garnacho is expected to leave after his Europa League final snub and subsequent fallout on social media. United hope to receive around £60-70m for the Argentine forward.
Marcus Rashford is also expected to leave permanently after his loan spell at Aston Villa. United have put a £40m price tag on the forward.
And they may well take big hits on a number of others, including Rasmus Hojlund, Jadon Sancho and Antony, who may find himself a market in Spain after impressing on loan at Real Betis.

Cardiff City is the latest club to register an interest in Rangers winger Ross McCausland. The Northern Ireland ace still has two years left to run on his Ibrox contract and is keen to be part of new gaffer Russell Martin's plans. ‌ But with Rangers in the market for wide players, several clubs are keeping tabs on McCausland's situation. English League one sides Cardiff and Plymouth Argyle, as well as MLS club FC Cincinnati, are all monitoring the 22-year-old in this transfer window. ‌ While Belgian side OH Leuven and Swiss outfit Basel also have McCausland on their radar. Record Sport understands he'd prefer to stay at his boyhood club but with a squad overhaul on the cards at Ibrox, Martin could listen to offers for the youngster who made 25 appearances for Rangers last term. McCausland moved to Ibrox in 2019 from Linfield and was given first-team opportunities by ex-gaffer Philippe Clement. He scored in the club's 2-0 Europa League win over Malmo last season but failed to nail down a regular starting slot. New boss Martin is still assessing his squad and potential targets, alongside Ibrox sporting director Kevin Thelwell. He's keen to land Leicester City defender Conor Coady to bolster his backline and have already made contact with the Foxes.

Full confirmed list of Manchester United ins and outs for summer transfer window

Manchester United are keen to have a busy summer transfer window following a dreadful debut campaign for Ruben Amorim, with more forwards targeted after the Matheus Cunha capture It is a huge summer transfer window for Manchester United. Ruben Amorim's side finished 15th in the Premier League last season and lost the Europa League final to Tottenham, meaning big changes are expected this summer. Mirror Football understands that United are willing to listen to offers for any of their players this summer, with their transfer budget standing at just £100million without departures. Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho, Antony and Tyrell Malacia, who all spent last season away on loan, are top of the list, while Alejandro Garnacho and Rasmus Hojlund are the subject of interest from Italy. ‌ Bruno Fernandes has rejected a mega-money move to Al-Hilal, but Garnacho appears likely to leave after falling out with Amorim at the back end of the season. Garnacho was dropped for the Europa League final and has attracted the attention of Napoli, as well as Saudi side Al-Nassr. ‌ Meanwhile, Hojlund has caught the eye of Inter Milan, who could splash out £40million to sign the misfiring United striker this summer. His future is uncertain with Amorim chasing a number of attackers in the transfer window. After landing Matheus Cunha in a statement £62.5m signing from Wolves, United are interested in both Brentford star Bryan Mbeumo and Sporting Lisbon's Viktor Gyokeres. Mbeumo scored 20 goals in the Premier League last season, while Gyokeres plundered over 50 for Sporting and could be reunited with Amorim this summer, although there is a lot of competition for his signature. "We always prepare two plans," Amorim said recently. "With and without the Champions League. Without the Champions League, we also don't need a big squad. "We can control the squad in a better way. Then we have a plan, that is to bring in some new players, but our big plan is to improve the team we have, to improve the academy. "It was the past, so it can be the future. It can't change much because of Financial Fair Play, we are not allowed to do much, even with the Champions League, so we are prepared. It's important to stick together. ‌ 'We are going to struggle, it's not going to be everything right away, but I can see the team improving and that's the most important thing." Whatever happens, it's bound to be a busy summer for United, with plenty of incoming and outgoing deals brewing after Sir Jim Ratcliffe oversaw a raft of cost-cutting measures. Here are all the confirmed deals so far.
