BJD MPs meet Odisha fire victim at AIIMS Delhi

Bhubaneswar, Jul 21 (PTI) A delegation of BJD MPs on Monday met the 15-year-old girl, who is struggling for her life after suffering 70 per cent burn injuries, at AIIMS Delhi and enquired about her health condition, party sources said.
The girl was set on fire by three unidentified miscreants when she was returning home from her friend's house in Balanga area in Odisha's Puri district on Saturday morning.
She was first rushed to the government hospital in Pipili and later admitted to AIIMS Bhubaneswar. On Sunday, she was airlifted to AIIMS Delhi for better treatment.
Her condition remained critical, as per the hospital bulletin issued on Sunday.
The delegation of BJD MPs that visited AIIMS Delhi comprised Sasmit Patra, Manas Ranjan Mangaraj, Sulata Deo and Niranjan Bishi.
They met the victim and also interacted with the attending doctors to enquire about her health condition. They also met the family members of the victim and assured them of all possible support.
Taking to X, Mangaraj said, 'Under the directions of Hon'ble BJD President Shri @Naveen_Odisha, we, the BJD Rajya Sabha MPs, met the Balanga (Nimapada) burn victim at AIIMS, New Delhi. We discussed her health conditions with the medical team and also spoke to her uncle." State announces saffron colour code for govt buildings
1 2 Bhubaneswar: State govt has announced a new directive mandating a uniform saffron colour code for all govt buildings. The decision requires all newly constructed govt structures to adopt the saffron hue, while existing buildings are expected to transition to the new colour scheme during their next repair or renovation phase. The new code "shall come into force with immediate effect", read a notification issued on July 30 by Sanjay Singh, principal secretary of the works department. It applies to all govt departments and enterprises. The department has specified RGB shades resembling light saffron for exterior walls and deep saffron for the borders. The govt had specified the saffron colour code for school buildings in March. In Oct last year, the govt had changed colour of school uniforms from the previous green and white — associated with BJD — to light brown, chocolate and clay-baked yellow. The BJP govt last year rebranded LAccMI (Location Accessible Multi-modal Initiative) bus service as Mukhya Mantri Bus Seva, adding a new fleet which is saffron in colour. Techno Mag Learn More Undo Critics argued that the move is an attempt to impose the ruling BJP's ideological preferences, while supporters claimed it is a necessary step to break away from the long-standing influence of the BJD's colour scheme. BJD spokesperson Lenin Mohanty criticised the govt for focusing on superficial changes instead of addressing pressing issues like law and order. "Amid the state's ongoing challenges with crime and insecurity, the colour code initiative is a distraction from more urgent governance matters," he said. Congress spokesperson Rajani Mohanty expressed disappointment with the govt's priorities, arguing that the focus should be on job creation and justice rather than cosmetic changes. "The govt has failed to deliver on its promises. It should concentrate on more substantive issues," he said. BJP spokesperson Dilip Mohanty defended the decision, emphasising that the new colour code is a corrective measure to address the dominance of BJD's green in public spaces. "The change is not politically motivated but rather a move towards a more neutral and appropriate aesthetic for govt buildings," he said. Mohanty further said that the public's response to the govt's initiatives has been overwhelmingly positive, suggesting that the electorate will ultimately judge the effectiveness of the administration's policies.

Karnataka to complete AI workforce impact survey in a month
Karnataka IT Minister Priyank Kharge on Tuesday said the state is talking to companies to evaluate the impact of AI on workforce and the assessment is expected to be completed in about a month. The comment assumes significance in the backdrop of TCS' decision to slash 12,000 jobs this year. The unexpected move by India's largest IT services company has sent fresh tremors in the tech industry, that has been battling global macroeconomic woes and geopolitical uncertainty. On the Karnataka State IT/ITeS Employees' Union reportedly seeking action against TCS over the job cuts, Kharge said Karnataka does not recognise unions in IT sector. He, however, added that "if there are concerns raised by public and people, it is our responsibility to address it". "We are talking to companies to ask them what exactly we can do to ensure our HR or talent is most employable. We are getting a survey done with the companies on AI affect in workforce," Kharge told PTI on sidelines of SAP Labs India event. He added that the process is expected to be completed in about a month. It is pertinent to mention here that India's top IT services companies have delivered single-digit revenue growth in Q1 FY26, capping off a somewhat-sobering June quarter as macroeconomic instability and geopolitical tensions have weighed on global tech demand and delayed client decision making.

Cops return 347 stolen mobile phones to their owners
