Ex-CM Baghel raises concern over increasing road accidents in Chhattisgarh
After the tragic accident in Chhattisgarh's Saragaon in which 13 people were killed. Congress leader Bhupesh Baghel on Monday raised concern over the increasing accidents in the state and urged the government to take them "seriously."
Former Chhattisgarh CM Baghel requested the Bharatiya Janata Party-led government to come up with some solutions to prevent road accidents, along with providing ex gratia to the families of the victims.
Expressing his condolences, Bhupesh Baghel said that a total 23 people have died in various road accidents.
"I have got information that, including yesterday and today, total 23 people have died in various road accidents. I express my condolences. I request govt to take these road accident cases seriously. Along with providing ex-gratia, they should come up with some solutions to prevent such road accidents from happening further," he said.
At least 13 people lost their lives and 12 others were injured after a truck collided with a trailer near Saragaon on Raipur-Balodabazar Road in Chhattisgarh on Sunday.
Raipur SP Lal Ummed Singh said, "Some people from the village Chataud had gone to Bana Banarasi to participate in the Chatthi program. They were returning after the program was over... During this, an accident happened near Raipur-Balodabazar road... A total of 13 people have died... 12 other people have been injured... All have been sent to the hospital for immediate treatment"
People were immediately rushed to Dr B.R. Ambedkar Memorial Hospital, Raipur.
Last month, Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari said that the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways plans to launch a Safety assessment rating for trucks and commercial vehicles along the lines of the Bharat New Car Assessment Program (Bharat NCAP), the country's own four-wheel star rating system.
"The idea is to encourage manufacturers to improve the production quality, making vehicles safer. Similarly, the government is already working on standards and a safety assessment system for battery-operated e-rickshaws in the country, as they suffer from safety issues. The safety improvement in e-rickshaws will improve their quality and generate more employment," said Nitin Gadkari.

However, Paswan dismissed speculation about any chief ministerial ambitions. "There is no vacancy for the CM post in Bihar. Nitish Kumar will become the CM after the elections," he said. BJP targets Congress as Kharge's photo left out of Goa Statehood Day poster
NEW DELHI: The Goa Congress has drawn criticism after failing to include Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge's photograph in a banner displayed during last week's Statehood Day celebration. The banner, which featured prominent party leaders including Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, state party chief Amit Patkar, and Leader of Opposition Yuri Alemao, was displayed at a meeting in Panaji on May 30. The event was organised after the cancellation of a public meeting in Navelim, South Goa, shere Kharge was expected to attend. The ruling BJP seized the opportunity to criticize the Congress, posting the banner's image on its X handle. Bihar rape victim's death: Opposition slams govt's insensitivity, latter asks not to politicise case
Patna: The brutal rape, followed by tragic demise of nine-year-old Dalit girl from Muzaffarpur, has left the local population incensed and outraged, with many demanding capital punishment for the accused. The political landscape, though remains divided over state's apathy and insensitivity towards the teenage victim, the issue has turned into major political row with the ruling party and the Opposition taking potshots at each other. The minor rape victim succumbed to injuries due to systematic apathy and medical negligence. The girl was made to wait for hours at the Patna Medical College Hospital (PMCH) before admission, which her family claimed, led to her death. The girl, after being sexually assaulted, was found in critical condition in a canal on May 26 in Kudhni block of Muzaffarpur district and later brought to Patna for treatment but she died waiting outside the hospital. Nitish Kumar-led NDA government has promised strict action against those found guilty, however, the Opposition, unconvinced with double engine's promises on law and order, has accused it of being 'complicit' in the tragic death of the Dalit girl. "This is a serious incident, and the accused was arrested by the police soon. Legal proceedings have already begun. A chargesheet will be filed soon, and the accused will face the law under a speedy trial," JD(U) spokesperson Neeraj Kumar said. "She was everyone's child. It is not right to politicise this issue. The hospital has given an explanation and the events of that night, and all of it is being investigated. The CCTV footage is also being examined. Everything will be investigated according to the law," he added. Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Nityanand Rai gave assurances of appropriate punishment to the accused and also took a dig at jungle raj in past regimes. "During the Lalu-Rabri tenure, the culprits and corrupt used to get protected. However, now the NDA government under the leadership of Nitish Kumar ensures culprits face appropriate punishment." However, the Opposition has intensified its attack on the ruling dispensation, accusing the administration of criminal negligence and misgovernance. Bihar Congress in-charge Krishna Allavaru slammed the government, stating, "It is very tragic whenever someone loses their life. This was a young girl who faced great injustice. Though they say good governance exists, however, here there is more misgovernance." "She struggled for 3-4 days but did not receive proper treatment. People had to take to the streets just to get her admitted to the hospital. The Chief Minister, ministers, and the administration failed to take care of the girl. At last, the child gave up. On Sunday, widespread protests broke out in Patna and Muzaffarpur. In Patna, party workers led by Bihar Congress president Rajesh Ram gathered at IT crossing and burnt effigies of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and Health Minister Mangal Pandey while demanding a judicial probe and the resignation of the Health Minister. "If the girl does not get justice, I will travel across Bihar with her ashes," Rajesh Ram announced during the protest.
