PKR Polls: Fahmi Vows To Help Party Strategise For GE16, State Polls
KEPALA BATAS, May 15 (Bernama) -- Planning for the 16th General Election (GE16) and several upcoming state elections (PRN) will be a key priority for PKR Information chief Datuk Fahmi Fadzil, who is offering himself as a candidate for the Central Leadership Council (MPP) in the 2025–2028 party election.
Fahmi, who is also the Communications Minister, said this would be the first area of focus if he was given the mandate to be part of the MPP, particularly in assisting the 26-year-old party with preparations such as the manifesto.
'We definitely need to start planning our steps towards GE16. In fact, we know that state elections in Sabah, Melaka and Johor are also approaching. So the first task for not just PKR, but many other parties will be preparing for these elections.

'This includes manifesto preparation, groundwork to engage the grassroots, connecting with the people, solving issues and understanding the policies that need to be prioritised. These will be among my main focuses,' he said.
He was speaking to reporters after attending the 'Jelajah Kita Keadilan' programme at Dewan Tok Mat Yahoo here tonight, which was also attended by the party's secretary-general, Dr Fuziah Salleh.
Fahmi also advised all candidates to campaign healthily by articulating their arguments and views, which in turn would help strengthen party unity in supporting Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim's reform and development agenda.

Commenting on the contest between Nurul Izzah Anwar and Economy Minister Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli for the post of deputy president, Fahmi described it as a contest between two figures with a long history and who have been with the party since its inception.
'I see both have their own approaches, their own styles in conveying their vision to the delegates—some use statistics, some evoke memories, use slides to argue their case, build the mood, spirit and struggle.
'I believe both figures have their own strengths and supporters. Nurul Izzah has served as vice-president since 2010 while Rafizi played a key role in reviving the party, especially after the Sheraton Move,' he said.

A report from GrowthOps Asia noted that the nation's telecommunications industry is undergoing a profound transformation, driven by market convergence, the nationwide 5G rollout, regulatory shifts, and major infrastructure investments. Advertisement The report, entitled 'Winning in Malaysia's Mature Telco Market', revealed that the country's telco market is now highly saturated and competitive, with mobile connections exceeding 129 per cent of the population. 'We are at a pivotal moment in the telco market, where consumers are no longer just looking for connectivity - they want a single, inclusive provider that delivers a suite of services and meaningful value-adds. 'The players who pair innovative products with sharp, relevant go-to-market strategies will be the ones that win,' said GrowthOps Malaysia general manager Chris Greenough in a statement to Bernama. The report also stated that the market is polarised with CelcomDigi Bhd emerging as the dominant leader, holding an estimated 40 per cent market share following its 2022 merger, while Maxis Bhd is positioned as a premium provider, emphasising network quality and loyalty perks. In addition, a cluster of challengers like U Mobile Sdn Bhd and Unifi by Telekom Malaysia Bhd are competing aggressively on value and plan innovation. 'Consumer perceptions revealed that while network quality and price remain key decision factors, sentiment towards loyalty rewards programs could create an industry-wide opportunity for differentiation. The report further emphasised strategic white spaces for growth, including targeting underserved urban and rural segments, capturing younger digital-first consumers, leveraging multi-channel engagement, and embracing emerging subscription models. 'It also underscores the strong correlation between brand awareness, share of voice, and market share, emphasising the importance of digital presence and customer engagement in maintaining competitive advantage. G57 slams DAP Youth for defending activist Fahmi

Kota Kinabalu: Gerakan Kuasa Rakyat Malaysia (G57) criticised DAP Youth Chief Woo Kah Leong for defending activist Fahmi Reza after he was barred from travelling abroad while remaining silent over alleged defamatory content aimed at the Sabah Governor. Its Chairman, Datuk Zulkarnain Mahdar questioned Woo's selective outrage and accused him of turning a blind eye to Fahmi's alleged insults to Yang di-Pertua Negeri Sabah, Tun Musa Aman. Advertisement 'Yes, Woo has every right to defend Fahmi, but why hasn't he questioned why no legal action has been taken against Fahmi despite multiple police reports lodged by Sabahans?' He pointed out that Fahmi had allegedly humiliated the Governor through a caricature posted online, an act Zulkarnain described as 'a deliberate and malicious attack.' 'Does Woo's silence have anything to do with the fact that Tun Musa is a Sabahan?' he asked. Ringgit flat against the greenback
KUALA LUMPUR: The ringgit traded in a narrow range against the US dollar yesterday amid cautious sentiment in the currency market ahead of the US-China trade talks, says an analyst. At 6pm, the local note made a small retreat to 4.2290/2345 against the greenback compared to last Friday's close of 4.2270/2360. Market participants were awaiting the outcome of the trade negotiation between the two economic superpowers, said the analyst. Bank Muamalat Malaysia Bhd chief economist Mohd Afzanizam Abdul Rashid noted that China's exports fell to 4.8% in May from 8.1% in the previous month, with exports to the United States contracting 34.5% in May from a contraction of 21%. 'This suggests that the tariff shocks have taken a toll on bilateral trade between the United States and China,' he told Bernama.
