Orang Asli teen detained after toddler mauled to death by stray dogs
Sungai Buloh police chief, Superintendent Mohd Hafiz Muhammad Nor, said the teen, from the Temuan tribe, was arrested around 11.50am under Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act 2001.
He said a post-mortem examination confirmed that the cause of death was the result of a violent dog attack.
"The post-mortem conducted by the Forensic Department at Sungai Buloh Hospital found the cause of death to be 'neck injury due to canine mauling', meaning the child suffered a brutal attack and bites from a dog," he said in a statement today.
Earlier reports indicated that a young couple, returning home from work, found their son, who had been left in the care of his uncle, dead about 20m from their house in an Orang Asli settlement.
The incident occurred on Tuesday morning. The couple noticed their front door was ajar and their one-year and seven-month-old toddler was missing from the house.
They called out his name but received no response. After searching the area, they found the child surrounded by stray dogs, who had attacked and mauled him to death.
Following the incident, police recorded statements from three individuals, including family members of the toddler, as part of the ongoing investigation.
Police have urged the public not to speculate on the incident and to come forward with any information by contacting the nearest police station, the Sungai Buloh police hotline at 03-6156 1222, or the investigating officer, Inspector Mohamad Aizad Abdul Azik, at 013-486 1194.

Landscaper remanded 3 days after toddler's death
Police originally applied for a seven-day remand at the Shah Alam magistrates' court to facilitate investigations under the Child Act 2001 for negligence. PETALING JAYA : A 19-year-old landscaper has been remanded for three days following the death of his 19-month-old nephew. According to his lawyer, Rajesh Nagarajan, police originally applied for a seven-day remand at the Shah Alam magistrates' court to facilitate investigations under the Child Act 2001 for negligence. However, Rajesh told magistrate Zur Azureen Zainalkefli that such a length of remand was 'ridiculous'. 'His statement has been taken. There's no need for him to remain in lock-up,' Rajesh told FMT. Shaamerul Zamri was arrested on Wednesday after a 19-month-old boy was found dead after a dog attack near his home at Kampung Orang Asli Sungai Buloh earlier this week. A post-mortem showed that the infant died from neck injuries due to alleged canine mauling. Police began investigating the case following a report lodged by a medical officer at Sungai Buloh Hospital. An initial investigation found that the toddler was left in the care of his uncle while his parents were at work. When his parents returned, they found the gate open and the child missing. The boy's body was discovered about 20m from the house, surrounded by several dogs. Rajesh said they were awaiting the forensic report to determine the infant's cause of death, as he could have been attacked by a leopard, given the location of the village near a forest reserve. 'There are claw marks and deep scratches that are inconsistent with a dog attack,' he said. Rajesh also said that the case is being investigated by the wildlife and national parks department. 'I was informed that they have set up three cameras in the vicinity,' he said.

Art museum owner fined RM300k for illegal wildlife parts possession
KUALA LUMPUR: An art museum owner has been fined RM300,000 by the Sessions Court for illegally possessing protected wildlife parts without a licence. Yiu Shoou Rang, 66, pleaded guilty to eight amended charges and was also sentenced to nine months' imprisonment if he failed to pay the fine, which he later settled. The charges included possession of an orangutan skull, two estuarine crocodile skulls, and seven elephant tusks—all fully protected species under the Wildlife Conservation Act 2010. The offences took place at a business premises in Central Market, Jalan Hang Kasturi, on January 8, 2024. Yiu also faced four additional charges for possessing 150 wild boar parts, 10 porcupine quills, and six sambar deer parts without a valid licence. These offences fall under Section 60(1)(a) of the Wildlife Conservation Act, which carries penalties of up to RM50,000 in fines or three years' imprisonment. Deputy public prosecutor Suhaila Rashid pushed for a deterrent sentence, while defence counsel Teh See Khoon argued for leniency, stating the items were part of an Orang Asli collection meant for museum display.
