EJ Obiena's father Emerson rules World Masters Games

Emerson Obiena, the father of Olympian and pole vaulter EJ Obiena, proved he is among the country's top athletes as he clinched gold in the World Masters Games in Taipei. Emerson cleared 3.60 meters to rule the pole vault men 60+ event.
Emerson, 60 years old, was EJ's first coach in the sport. He logged his personal best of 4.93 meters back in 2008.
Emerson is also a two-time Southeast Asian Games medalist, where he copped the silver in 1993 and bronze in 2005.

Gilas Pilipinas Youth ruled the FIBA U16 Asia Cup SEABA Qualifiers after dismantling Indonesia in the finals, 70-40, on Friday at the Bren Z. Guiao Convention Center in Pampanga. The young Philippine squad went hot from the get-go as it outscored Indonesia, 21-5, in the first period before taking a 41-20 lead by halftime. It was all Gilas then as the nationals logged its biggest lead, 59-25, with 1:31 left in the third period after the Philippines made a 6-0 run from consecutive baskets from Andwele Cabañero, Jeremiah Antolin, Jr., and Jhustin Hallare. With their backs against the wall, Indonesia still couldn't find the answer as the Philippines eventually completed a sweep of the tournament. Hallare led the U16 squad with 13 points, four rebounds, and two assists, while Carl Gabriel delos Reyes had 11 points, 13 boards, and four assists. Ethan Tan-Chi added nine points, while Evaraigne Cruz added seven points. No player scored in double digits for Indonesia as Miracle Christian led the squad with nine points, while Benjamin Hernusi added eight points. Aside from winning the gold, the Philippines also secured its spot in the FIBA U16 Asia Cup which will be held in Mongolia this year. ILOCOS NORTE - NCR swimmers Titus Sia and Sophia Garra will be taking home a combined total of 14 gold medals from the 2025 Palarong Pambansa, becoming the most bemedalled athletes in the tournament. The 12-year-old tankers each completed a seven-gold medal sweep as they dominated the waters of the Ferdinand E. Marcos Memorial Stadium in Laoag, Ilocos Norte. Sia, who only had one bronze last year in Cebu, ruled the 100m, 200m, and 400m freestyle events as well as the 100m backstroke, 4x50m medley relay, 50m backstroke, and 4x50m freestyle relay to become the athlete with the most medals in the elementary boys division. Garra, meanwhile, reigned supreme in the 50m, 100m, and 200m events in freestyle while also dominating the 100m backstroke, 4x50m medley relay, 200m IM, and 4x50m freestyle. PMNFT releases 24-man lineup for AFC Asian Cup qualifiers vs Tajikistan

The Philippine Men's National Football Team released its 24-man lineup for the upcoming AFC Asian Cup Qualifiers match against Tajikistan on June 10.
