Philippine culture, artworks take centerstage at Expo 2025 in Osaka, Japan

Philippine culture and artworks took centerstage at the Philippine Pavilion at the Expo 2025 in Osaka, Japan. According to Katrina Son's report in "24 Oras" Friday, among the artworks that were featured include handwoven pieces with multimedia projections that seemingly transport viewers to the different regions of the Philippines. "These are all made of abaca, so the artists weaved abaca to be the canvas for the art piece and then we printed our art piece on it," Philippine Pavilion creative director Chochay Garcia said of a woven artwork. "And then as you can see, there are strips here. They've been cut into strips and then reweaved together, inserting different materials that are endemic to the Philippines," she added. Many attendees admired the handwoven pieces at the Philippine Pavilion, including OPM icon Jose Mari Chan and European Union Ambassador to the Philippines Massimo Santoro. "We've been showing our Japanese friends the island where we were born in Iloilo. Today, this is the first pavilion that we came to, I wanted our Japanese guests to appreciate our pavilion, " said Jose Mari Chan. Meanwhile, Filipino Romer Arguelles, who visited the pavilion with his family from Dubai, was recognized as the 300,000th visitor. "Very surprising. Nakakataba ng puso na nagkaroon pa ng ganito na pang 300,000. Dapat kung bibisita ka lang din sa expo, dito ka dapat una pumunta. Be proud of your country," said Romer. Attendees also took part in the Philippine cultural dances performed at the expo, while others tried traditional hilot massage. Philippine cuisine also shone at the pavilion through Hain, where halo-halo, adobo, and okoy were served to the attendees. According to the report, cultural performances will be held at the Philippine Pavilion on Saturday, June 7, for Philippine National Day. —CDC, GMA Integrated News

From BINI to Sabrina Carpenter: Here are new songs to check out

It's New Music Friday! From rising stars like Suyen and Ziv, to big names like Sabrina Carpenter, BINI, and Sandwich, here are new songs to add to your playlist. Addison Rae – 'Addison' Addison Rae just dropped her debut album, "Addison." The social media personality turned singer combined all her soulful pop beats in this debut, which includes "Diet Pepsi," "Aquamarine," "High Fashion," "Headphones On," "Fame Is a Gun," and "Times Like This." BINI – 'Shagidi' BINI turned this classic Filipino game into a pop song. The Nation's Girl Group dropped their latest single 'Shagidi,' and it could easily make listeners dance, or who knows, maybe even put a new twist to the game. Ed Sheeran – 'Sapphire' Ed Sheeran turned away from his soulful ballads in 'Sapphire,' an upbeat love song in English but with a catchy hook in the Punjabi language. It is the third single from Ed's upcoming album 'Play.' Enhypen – 'Desire: Unleash' Enhypen just dropped their sixth mini album, 'Desire: Unleash.' It's got eight dance-pop tracks including 'Loose,' 'Bad Desire (With or Without You),' and so much more. Gat – 'Rainbow' Filipino boy band Gat is back with a brand new rendition of a classic Filipino song. Turning away from their danceable 'Daleng Dale' cover, the guys gave a soulful, R&B take on 'Rainbow,' originally by South Border. James Reid, TJ Monterde – 'Pahinga' James Reid turned acoustic with the help of none other than TJ Monterde. The duo sings about taking a break following a challenge with a partner, and allowing each other to rest for a bit to save the relationship. One Click Straight – 'OTW' One Click Straight dropped one of the title tracks of their upcoming EP, 'otw/BROke,' titled 'otw.' The Filipino alternative band tackles themes of commuting like loud horns and gossip, but also traveling to a loved one who feels like home. Sabrina Carpenter – 'Manchild' Sabrina Carpenter is back with a spicy new single, with a beat reminiscent of 1980s pop with hints of country. In 'Manchild,' Sabrina sings about a man who is 'so sexy,' but 'so dumb.' On Instagram, the pop girl said of the song, '[This] song became to me something I can look back on that will score the mental montage to the very confusing and fun young adult years of life.' Suyen and Sandwich – 'Basura' Rising rockstar Suyen teamed up with Sandwich for 'Basura,' a rock song about somebody who is messy in all ways, and that karma is coming for them. Ziv and KAIA – 'Walkie Talkie' Filipina P-Pop group KAIA got together with South Korean artist Ziv for the cutest song about yearning for a guy to talk to them. —CDC, GMA Integrated News
