Pag-IBIG Fund earns 13th straight unmodified opinion from COA
The latest audit opinion followed COA's comprehensive review of Pag-IBIG Fund's financial statements and operations for the year 2024. The review confirmed that the agency's transactions were properly conducted in accordance with applicable laws and regulations, and that its financial statements were fairly presented, in all material respects, in line with relevant government accounting and reporting standards.
'This is further proof that Pag-IBIG Fund has been, and continues to be, managed with professionalism, prudence, and integrity,' said Secretary Jose Ramon P. Aliling, head of the Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development and Chairperson of the 11-member Pag-IBIG Fund Board of Trustees. 'It is a testament to how Pag-IBIG Fund upholds the highest standards in managing our members' hard-earned savings and in fulfilling its mandate to serve the Filipino worker. This achievement also reflects Pag-IBIG Fund's strong position, as it plays a key role in the administration's flagship Expanded Pambansang Pabahay para sa Pilipino (4PH) Housing Program. We remain committed to the directive of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. to build a more secure, resilient, and prosperous future for every Filipino family.'
COA had previously issued unqualified opinions on Pag-IBIG Fund from 2012 to 2017 and unmodified opinions from 2018 to 2024. With this latest result, Pag-IBIG Fund joins a short list of Philippine government agencies and GOCCs that have consistently received unqualified and unmodified opinions for over a decade, a noteworthy distinction that underscores its sustained fiscal discipline and commitment to transparency.
Pag-IBIG Fund Chief Executive Officer Marilene C. Acosta likewise emphasized the significance of this recognition, highlighting how it reflects the agency's outstanding performance and service delivery in 2024.
'Pag-IBIG Fund exceeded the one-trillion-peso mark in total assets and posted a historic net income of ₱66.78 billion last year. We also achieved all-time highs in our housing loan releases, cash loan disbursements, and loan collections, enabling more Filipino workers to access affordable home financing and meet their short-term financial needs. Earning COA's Unmodified Opinion for the 13th consecutive year affirms that we accomplished all these while upholding the highest standards of integrity, in line with President Marcos Jr.'s call for excellence and accountability in public service, said Acosta.'
'This recognition reinforces our members' trust, knowing that their savings are safe, protected, and responsibly managed. We will continue to serve them with Tapat na Serbisyo, Mula sa Puso, and remain focused on sustaining this track record of integrity in the years ahead, she added.'
The unmodified opinion from COA adds to the list of recognitions earned by Pag-IBIG Fund from governing bodies for its excellence in public service last year. In 2024, Pag-IBIG Fund was also named as one of the top-performing government firms for good governance by the Governance Commission for GOCCs (GCG). Pag-IBIG Fund also earned a satisfaction rating of 99.52% in its 2024 Client Satisfaction Measurement, in accordance with the standards set by the Anti-Red Tape Authority (ARTA) and the GCG.

OFW Serbisyo Caravan Brings Government Help to Jeddah
The Bagong Pilipinas whole-of-government team successfully delivered essential and timely services to over 500 overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) in the Middle East during the first day of the 'Bagong Bayani ng Mundo: OFW Serbisyo Caravan' held at Ladunna Hall in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia on August 8, 2025. Led by Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) Assistant Secretary for Reintegration Atty. Francis Ron C. De Guzman, the event gathered multiple government agencies—including OWWA, PAO, DSWD, SSS, PSA, LandBank, PhilHealth, and Pag-IBIG Fund—to provide a one-stop shop of assistance. To ensure smooth operations, the DMW-Migrant Workers Office in Jeddah used QR code pre-registration, distributed participant checklists, organized event space by sections, and enlisted OFW volunteers as guides. A total of 525 OFWs availed services on the first day, with more expected on the second day. De Guzman emphasized that the caravan is part of the DMW's commitment to consistently serve OFWs, saying, 'Kami po ay palagiang babalik… laging nakabukas ang mga opisina para patuloy na makapagserbisyo.' The OFW Serbisyo Caravan, a flagship DMW program, offers services such as membership registration, renewal of documents, legal aid, financial and psychosocial support, and reintegration assistance.

Marcos: SC Ruling on Sara Impeachment Didn't Settle Accountability Issue
President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. reiterated that the Supreme Court's decision voiding the impeachment case against Vice President Sara Duterte did not address her accountability as a public official. Speaking to reporters during his state visit to India, Marcos emphasized that the high court's ruling focused solely on procedural issues and not on whether wrongdoing occurred. The Supreme Court, in its July 25 decision, ruled in favor of petitions questioning the constitutionality of the articles of impeachment, citing violations of the one-year ban on multiple complaints and due process concerns. Marcos clarified that the Court neither cleared nor condemned Duterte, but found that the process was mishandled. This was Marcos' first public comment on the unanimous ruling, which nullified the House-approved impeachment complaint transmitted to the Senate. He stressed that as an impeachable official himself, he has no role in impeachment proceedings, which are the responsibility of the Court, the Senate, and the House. The Senate has since voted to archive the impeachment case rather than dismiss it outright, allowing space for pending motions for reconsideration before the Supreme Court. Several petitioners, including the Bagong Alyansang Makabayan, have filed appeals urging the Court to reverse its decision, arguing that it creates procedural obstacles that weaken accountability for high officials. Legal experts are divided on whether the articles of impeachment can be revived if the Supreme Court reverses itself. Some see the archiving as a safeguard, while others note that the ruling's procedural findings may still block further action. For now, the impeachment case is effectively suspended unless the Court grants the appeals.

DMW to Open Migrant Workers Office in Nigeria for 7,000 Filipinos
The Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) is intensifying efforts to document overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) in West Africa, with plans to open a Migrant Workers Office (MWO) in Abuja, Nigeria. A delegation led by DMW Secretary Hans Leo J. Cacdac will visit Nigeria and Liberia until August 19, 2025, to strengthen bilateral labor relations and directly engage with Filipino communities. This mission follows directives from President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. Secretary Cacdac stressed that while the DMW does not actively promote overseas employment, it prioritizes the protection of OFWs—especially through safe and ethical recruitment, ensuring they are documented and safeguarded. The planned MWO in Abuja will serve about 6,000 OFWs in Nigeria and 150 in Liberia, providing faster access to legal, medical, financial, and humanitarian assistance via the AKSYON Fund. Services will also extend to seafarers affected by piracy and undocumented OFWs under third-country hiring. Currently, the DMW's presence in Northern Africa is through its MWO in Rabat, Morocco, which covers several other countries. The Abuja office will expand coverage to an estimated 7,000 Filipinos across West Africa.
