
Mutual funds offer investment solutions: SECP chief
According to the spokesperson, the event was structured into thematic segments and facilitated by expert-led deliberations on mutual fund reforms, product innovation, digital transformation, investor inclusion, governance frameworks and market development, addressing both domestic challenges and global best practices.
During his opening remarks, SECP Chairman Akif Saeed underscored the strategic importance of mutual funds in broadening access to formal investment opportunities, particularly for retail investors. He stated that mutual funds have the potential to democratize investing by offering professionally managed, transparent, and regulated options to a wider investor base. He further emphasized that the SECP remains fully committed to strengthening the mutual fund ecosystem by fostering innovation, simplifying accessibility, and enhancing regulatory oversight to ensure long-term and inclusive growth of financial sector.
The sessions featured robust discussions on emerging global trends, including the rise of ESG-focused, thematic, and infrastructure-linked funds, as well as the expanding market for Shariah-compliant investment products. A key focus was also placed on women's financial inclusion, with participants exploring how mutual funds can serve as an effective tool to enhance female participation in the economy.
Discussion also centered on digital transformation and governance, with stakeholders examining the role of technologies such as Systematic Investment Plans (SIPs) and Centralized Gateway Portals (CGPs) in improving investor onboarding and operational efficiency. Additionally, discussions emphasized the need for strong governance frameworks, transparent disclosure practices, and robust risk management protocols to bolster investor confidence and safeguard market integrity.
SECP Commissioner Abdul Rehman Warraich highlighted the significance of stakeholder input in shaping future regulatory policies. He thanks the stakeholders for the candid and constructive engagement from industry partners and hoped that the insights gathered will play a crucial role in informing upcoming reforms by SECP. He emphasized that a transparent, well-regulated, and inclusive mutual fund industry is vital for deepening Pakistan's capital markets and advancing financial inclusion.
The SECP, as a sole regulator of capital markets in the country, extended its appreciation to the participants for their valuable contributions and reaffirmed its commitment to ongoing collaboration with industry stakeholders. The Mutual Fund Focus Group Sessions 2025 will also continue on Tuesday with further discussions on the same thematic areas involving a fresh group of experts and market participants.

Govt panel proposes major changes to Companies Act 2017
A high-level subcommittee on regulatory reforms has recommended significant amendments to the Companies Act 2017 to bring Pakistan's corporate framework in line with international best practices. The proposals were discussed on Monday at a meeting chaired by Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Industries and Production Haroon Akhtar Khan, according to a press release. The session was attended by Scott Jacobs, representatives from the Board of Investment (BOI), the Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP), and the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP). According to officials, the SECP and BOI jointly presented a package of recommendations aimed at modernising the Act. Section 42 of Companies Act, 2017: IHC adjudicate on tax references filed by SECP-registered firm Key proposals include removing the minimum and maximum limits on the number of members in private and public companies, introducing greater flexibility in corporate forms, and scrapping unnecessary restrictions. Haroon Akhtar said the agreed recommendations should be drafted without delay, warning that excessive regulations, procedural delays, and barriers to ease of doing business were serious challenges for enterprises in the country. He added that several provisions in the existing law were outdated and hindered innovation in modern corporate structures.

Indian equity MF inflows soar to record high in July
Fund flows into India's equity mutual funds soared to a record last month, industry data showed on Monday, as local investors bought the market dip triggered by U.S.-India trade uncertainty and muted corporate earnings. Net flows into equity schemes rose 81% month-on-month to 427.02 billion rupees ($4.9 billion) in July, data from the Association of Mutual Funds in India (AMFI) showed. Overall, assets under management in the MF industry hit a record high at 75.36 trillion rupees. Contributions via systematic investment plans (SIPs) – a popular periodic investment route for MF investors - rose to a record 284.64 billion rupees. The number of contributing SIP accounts also climbed to 91.1 million from 86.4 million in June. 'Intermittent market corrections on the back of tariff war with the U.S. as well as ongoing geopolitical tension offered investors attractive entry points,' said Himanshu Srivastava, principal, manager research at Morningstar Investment Research. Equity MFs saw inflows for the 53rd month in a row, even as foreign investors pulled out $2 billion from the stock market in July on lingering uncertainty about a U.S.-India trade deal and worries over another quarter of weak earnings. Indian rupee ends flat as importer dollar demand offsets early gains These inflows helped the benchmark stock indexes trim their losses. The Nifty fell 2.9% last month, with small-caps and mid-caps sliding 5.8% and 3.9%, respectively. Large-cap funds attracted 21.25 billion rupees, up 25.5% from June, while mid-cap allocations rose 38% to 51.82 billion rupees and small-cap inflows jumped 61% to 64.84 billion rupees. 'The rise in mid-cap, small-cap, and sectoral fund participation signals a growing appetite for diversified growth,' said A Balasubramanian, MD and CEO at Aditya Birla Sun Life AMC. 'It's a testament to the maturity of Indian market in a heightened period of uncertainty.' Inflows into Gold Exchange and Silver Exchange Traded Funds were at 12.56 billion rupees and 19.04 billion rupees, respectively.

The Workers Welfare Board Sindh (WWBS) has announced a series of welfare initiatives for industrial workers from minority communities and women, including the provision of electric bikes, as part of Maarka-e-Haq and Independence Day celebrations.
