2026 Tamil Nadu elections will mark a permanent farewell to Edappadi Palaniswami: CM Stalin
Mr. Stalin made the remarks while launching and inaugurating completed development projects and distributing welfare assistance in Mayiladuthurai district, during which he expressed criticism of both the AIADMK and BJP-led Union government.
Responding to Mr. Palaniswami's criticism of the Kalaignar Magalir Urimai Thogai scheme, Mr. Stalin said, 'He is unable to accept the scheme's success. His criticisms only serve to advertise our achievements. We implement this scheme without bias; even women from AIADMK families benefit.'
He accused Mr. Palaniswami of reversing welfare progress during his tenure, pointing to the cancellation of the Moovalur Ramamirtham marriage assistance scheme and the free laptop distribution programme. 'Mr. Palaniswami says 'Tata, bye bye' to me. But since 2019, the people of Tamil Nadu have been saying the same to him. In the upcoming elections, it will be a permanent goodbye,' Mr. Stalin remarked. 'Even his own party cadres no longer believe in him.'
Taking aim at Mr. Palaniswami's outreach to Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Mr. Stalin alleged, that the AIADMK leader had knocked on Delhi's doors not for the people of Tamil Nadu but to escape raids and protect his family. 'He mortgaged a party built by lakhs of cadre,' Mr. Stalin alleged.
On the issue of Tamil Nadu fishermen's frequent arrests by Sri Lankan authorities, Mr. Stalin criticised the Union government for political inaction. 'The BJP-led Union government has failed to act, while continuing to politicise the Katchatheevu issue. The Sri Lankan Foreign Minister clearly said the Tamil Nadu fishermen are intruding into their waters and that Katchatheevu will never be returned. And what has our External Affairs Minister said in response? Nothing.' Mr. Stalin reiterated his demand for the Prime Minister to directly intervene and bring a lasting solution to the issue.
Mr. Stalin declared that the next government at the Centre would be a 'Dravidian Model 2.0 government', one that would serve as a national benchmark for inclusive and progressive governance.
Earlier in the day, Mr. Stalin unveiled a statue of former Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi at Vazhuvur village in Kuthalam taluk. He also held a brief roadshow near Dharmapuram, where he greeted school and college students as well as members of the general public.

Parliament monsoon session: DMK MPs adopt resolution to raise various issues including language policy
DMK president and Chief Minister M K Stalin on Friday chaired the meeting of his party's MPs, which adopted a resolution identifying key issues to be raised in the upcoming monsoon session of the parliament. The 11 years of the BJP regime at the Centre is marked by suppression of rights of the people, taking away autonomy of the States, imposition of Sanskrit and Hindi and growing communalism. More importantly, they are betraying Tamil Nadu and running a 'National Dictatorship Arrangement' regime, Mr. Stalin said in a post on X. 'I have instructed the MPs to reflect the voice of people in India and Tamil Nadu in the monsoon session and safeguard State's financial, linguistic, educational and federal rights,' Mr. Stalin said. According to a party release, the meeting adopted a resolution to uphold State's rights on various aspects. As per the resolution, DMK MPs will put forth the points raised by Mr. Stalin during the 10th Governing Council meeting of NITI Aayog chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on May 24. This includes a new scheme for cleaning of major rivers - Cauvery, Vaigai, and Thamirabarani, naming Union government schemes in English, it said. The MPs will also raise the issue of denial of Samagra Shiksha funds to Tamil Nadu for not implementing the Centre's three-language policy, while similar funds released to BJP-ruled Maharashtra that withdrew the policy following opposition, the resolution noted. The MPs would also seek 50% devolution to States and also flag the issue of States getting only 33.16% of devolution against the 15th Finance Commission recommendation of 41% and the financial strain on the State government due to its increasing share in schemes implemented along with the Central government, it said. As per the resolution, the MPs will raise the issue of Centre's non-acceptance of Keezhadi archaeological report and non-release of funds for the railway projects to Tamil Nadu and under Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) scheme. The DMK will take up the delay in restoring statehood to Jammu and Kashmir and also the issue of Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of Electoral Rolls in Bihar and misuse of Election Commission. Arrest of Tamil fishermen by Sri Lanka, Katchatheevu retrieval, moving education back to State list are among the other issues in the agenda.

‘Sadhana Samavesha' aimed at countering BJP's misinformation, says Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah
Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said on Friday that the 'Sadhana Samavesha', which will be held at the Maharaja College ground here on Saturday, is aimed at countering BJP's misinformation campaign. Responding to questions from reporters at the Mysuru airport, Mr. Siddaramaiah sought to make it clear that the event was not a show of strength. The event is an attempt to inform the people of the State about the achievements of the State government in the backdrop of false propaganda spread by the BJP, the Chief Minister said. Referring to the launch of schemes worth ₹2,658 crore at the 'Sadhana Samavesha', the Chief Minister asked whether they would hold such a function for nothing. Further, he asked the BJP to list out its contribution in the development of Mysuru. Accusing the BJP of spreading false information that the State government did not have funds to implement the guarantee schemes, Mr. Siddaramaiah wondered whether the government will be able to spend ₹2,568 crore for just one city if it was bankrupt. The Chief Minister also dismissed speculations about the 'September revolution' amid reports about a change of Chief Minister in the State, and asked reporters to pose the question to the people who were speaking about the same. Even if the people who are talking about it were from the Congress party, they had not told him about it, Mr. Siddaramaiah said. In regard to BJP State president B.Y. Vijayendra's challenge to name All India Congress Committee president Mallikarjun Kharge as the party's Prime Ministerial candidate, Mr. Siddaramaiah said that the BJP leader should ask Prime Minister Narendra Modi to make way for a Dalit. When asked about the stance of the Congress, Mr. Siddaramaiah said that everybody in the party gets an opportunity. Only the Congress is committed to social justice, he added.

‘Unified Stand Of Parliament': Kiren Rijiju On Impeachment Motion Against Justice Varma
Kiren Rijiju said that all political parties are on board on the issue of the impeachment of Justice Yashwant Varma, from whose residence burnt wads of currency notes were found. Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju on Friday said that the potential impeachment of Justice Yashwant Varma of Allahabad High Court, who was indicted by a Supreme Court-appointed probe panel after the discovery of a huge amount of burnt cash from his official residence in the national capital, is a collective initiative of the MPs of all political parties, and not just the government. 'I have spoken to all the senior leaders of different political parties. I will also get in touch with some of the single-MP parties because I do not want to leave out any member. So it becomes a unified stand of the Parliament of India," Rijiju said in an interview with news agency PTI. He further said that corruption in the judiciary is an extremely sensitive and serious matter and that's why members of Parliament cutting across party lines are in favour of moving a motion to remove Justice Varma. 'Corruption in the judiciary is an extremely sensitive and serious matter, because the judiciary is where people get justice. If there is corruption in the judiciary, it is a serious concern for everybody. That is why the motion for the removal of Justice Yashwant Varma is to be signed by all the political parties," he said. Rijiju further said that he is happy that the principal opposition party, Congress, has understood the severity of the matter and agreed to be on board on the issue. 'When it comes to corruption in the judiciary, we have to stand together. There cannot be any partisan attitude and it should not be made a political issue," Rijiju said. The Congress has said that all its MPs will support the motion against Justice Varma. Strategy Meeting Ahead Of Session Earlier today, union ministers Amit Shah, Piyush Goyal, Kiren Rijiju, ML Khattar, JP Nadda, L Murugan, Arjun Ram Meghwal and CR Paatil held a strategy meeting at the residence of Defence Minister Rajnath Singh to discuss several issues pertaining to the upcoming monsoon session of Parliament. Law Minister On Impeachment Motion Earlier today, Union Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal said that Justice Varma is entitled to challenge the process in court. He noted that a Supreme Court-led committee formed by the then Chief Justice submitted its findings to the Prime Minister and the President. However, he stressed that proceedings in Parliament are separate and independent from legal proceedings in court. Regarding the motion expected to be tabled in the upcoming Monsoon Session of Parliament, Meghwal reiterated that the government has no role in this process. 'Under the Constitution, MPs can initiate a motion to remove a judge on grounds of proven misconduct or corruption, requiring the support of at least 100 Lok Sabha MPs or 50 Rajya Sabha MPs. This process is entirely within their parliamentary privilege," he said. Impeachment Motion To be Introduced In Monsoon Session Government sources revealed that the impeachment motion, referred to as a 'removal motion," has already garnered over 100 signatures from members of the ruling BJP and its allies. Opposition members are also expected to submit their signatures shortly. Once the motion is formally submitted, the Speaker of the Lok Sabha will decide whether to admit it. If admitted, a three-member committee will be formed, comprising a sitting Supreme Court judge, a High Court judge, and a distinguished jurist. This committee will investigate the charges against Justice Verma and submit a report to Parliament. 'So the three-month-period requirement will have to be fulfilled. And after that the inquiry report will be tabled in Parliament and a discussion held in both Houses," Rijiju said. Justice Varma Reaches Supreme Court Meanwhile, Justice Varma has approached the Supreme Court to challenge the findings of the in-house inquiry panel that recommended initiating impeachment proceedings against him. According to the petition filed by Justice Varma, only Parliament has the authority to remove a judge, via a special majority and due process under the Judges (Inquiry) Act, 1968. In his plea, Justice Varma termed his removal as unconstitutional and violative of judicial independence. He also raised serious constitutional objections to the in-house inquiry procedure invoked in his case. What's The Row? Justice Varma is facing allegations of corruption after the cash discovery in March, when he was a judge at the Delhi High Court. However, he has claimed ignorance about the cash. After the controversy, Justice Varma was transferred to the Allahabad High Court, his parent High Court. After the cash discovery incident, the Supreme Court had set up a three-member committee of Justice Sheel Nagu, Chief Justice of the High Court of Punjab and Haryana, Justice GS Sandhawalia, Chief Justice of the High Court of Himachal Pradesh and Justice Anu Sivaraman, Judge of the High Court of Karnataka, to look into the allegations against Justice Varma. While the preliminary report of the Delhi High Court Chief Justice and the response of Justice Varma, along with the photos and videos taken by the Delhi Police, were publicised by uploading them on the Supreme Court's website, the final iquiry report, submitted to the Chief Justice of India on May 4, has not been officially disclosed yet. Then Chief Justice of India Sanjiv Khanna had written to the president and the prime minister to remove Justice Varma, mired in the cash discovery row. Justice Khanna had prodded Varma to resign but he had refused, sources had earlier said.
