Georgia football's 2025 AP Poll preseason ranking revealed
Georgia enters the 2025 season with more modest expectations than last season. The Bulldogs lost 13 players to the 2025 NFL draft and starting quarterback Carson Beck to the transfer portal. Of course, Georgia is reloading with tons of talent after the Bulldogs have stacked several consecutive elite recruiting classes. Georgia is projected to start redshirt junior Gunner Stockton at quarterback.
In 2024, Georgia was the preseason No. 1 in the AP Poll, but the Bulldogs went on to finish No. 6 in the final rankings after Georgia lost to Notre Dame in the College Football Playoff quarterfinals.
Georgia is scheduled to play five teams ranked in the AP Poll. The Bulldogs play No. 1 Texas, No. 21 Ole Miss and No. No. 8 Alabama at home this fall. Georgia plays No. 15 Florida at a neutral site in Jacksonville, Florida, and No. 24 Tennessee on the road in Georgia's first SEC game of the season on Sept. 13. Georgia will also play Georgia Tech (neutral) and Auburn (road), who both received votes in the AP Poll.
Georgia opens the season against Marshall on Saturday, Aug. 30.

Former Ohio State player highlights and moments from the first week of the NFL preseason
It's no secret that Ohio State is an NFL football factory. The Buckeyes have sent a slew of players to the game's highest level, and it's not just a recent thing -- though that too has been the case with 14 players being selected in the NFL draft off of last year's College Football Playoff national championship squad. We like to take a little peek into some of the NFL action after Saturdays are done during the college football season, and with the preseason already kicking off this past weekend, it seems like a good time to check in to see what former Buckeyes are doing in the NFL as things continue towards the start of the 2025-2026 NFL calendar. There are plenty of former Ohio State football players littered across NFL rosters, and many are fighting for either a spot or a larger role within their team. At other times, some are well established but still queueing up the highlight machine, even early on as things get rollin.' Here's a look at some of the best moments and highlights from former Ohio State players doing showing up and showing out during Week 1 of the NFL preseason. TreVeyon Henderson takes it the distance Henderson is a big play waiting to happen, and he showed that immediately by taking his first touch 100 yards for a touchdown. You can expect the Patriots to try and get the ball to him a lot this year to take advantage of his game-breaking ability. Once a Buckeye ... The brotherhood is real. You see these types of meet-ups and camaraderie every time Ohio State players meet up in the NFL and beyond. Justin Fields settles in Looks like Fields wore a "jersey" to the stadium for his Jets debut before he slipped on the real thing. We'll see more from him in a moment. Jack Sawyer in the black and gold If you ever wondered what Jack Sawyer would look like as an Iowa Hawkeye, here's your chance. All jokes aside, Sawyer looks the part and had flashes in his first action for the Steelers. Emeka Egbuka from the Bucks to the Bucs Look, finally, a football player that looks normal walking into a game. Some of these guys get awfully weird with their wardrobes once money is no option. Ebugka is endearing himself awfully well to his teammates and fans already down in Tampa, and it's just the beginning. Egbuka hauls in his first catch You can bet that this will be the first of many. I have zero doubt that Ebguka is going to thrive down in Tampa, and we'll be talking about him a lot! Fields showing off that athletic ability And ... this is what Fields brings to the table for New York. If he can find some chemistry with his wide receivers, look out for a breakout year. Trey Sermon finds pay dirt It'll probably be hard for Sermon to carve out a significant role in the Steel City, but finding the end zone more often certainly doesn't hurt. Three Buckeyes flying high for the Jets If you are an Ohio State fan, there are a few teams that are now appointment television, with the latest being the New York Jets, which have a trio ready to improve the passing game in the Big Apple. Steve Spurrier takes shot at Stetson Bennett
Former Georgia Bulldog Stetson Bennett is one of the most memorable Bulldogs of all time. As the quarterback of Georgia's back-to-back national champion squads in 2021 and 2022, Bennett's name will be forever be among the greats in Georgia history. However, former Florida Gators head coach Steve Spurrier doubts Bennett's impact on the championship winning teams. When discussing about the impact of quarterbacks on championship-winning teams, he had this to say on "Another Dooley Noted Podcast", hosted by Pat Dooley. 'I think there's two areas that are, probably, going to determine the best teams,' Spurrier said. 'Obviously, coaching is important. And then special players. It could be the quarterback but it could be other guys. Georgia won two national championships with Stetson Bennett. So, the quarterback, he needs to be a good player but he doesn't have to be one of those guys that has to throw for 300 yards every game.' It's a strange bit of criticism from Spurrier, but it would be more surprising if he praised Georgia. Bennett threw for 300 yards or more eight times in his Georgia career, but four of those times occurred in a College Football Playoff or SEC championship game. In fact, his career-high came in the 2023 playoff semifinal against Ohio State, when he threw for 398 yards and 3 touchdowns. Georgia needed every bit of it too, winning 42-41 thanks to a missed field goal. While Bennett had numerous talented teammates on both offense and defense during his time in Georgia (Brock Bowers, Jalen Carter, and Ladd McConkey), it's hard to say that Bennett was just along for the ride. Now with the Rams, Bennett is looking to carve out a pro career. He had an excellent game in Week 1 of the preseason, and with Matthew Stafford dealing with back issues, he could continue getting extended looks in the preseason.
