Details About Chris Martin Dakota Johnson's Romance Amid Their Breakup
Dakota Johnson and Chris Martin are reportedly broken up for a 'final' time, according to insiders, so please bear with us while we mourn their sweet romance.
'It feels final this time,' a source told People on June 4, claiming the couple ended their eight-year relationship in recent weeks.
The pair started dating in 2017 after being set up by mutual friends and kept their love story largely out of the public eye. The Fifty Shades of Grey actress didn't confirm their romance until a Sept 2018 in an interview with Tatler, simply saying, 'I'm not going to talk about it, but I am very happy.'
In a super-rare 2021 interview with Elle UK, Johnson said, 'We've been together for quite a while, and we go out sometimes, but we both work so much that it's nice to be at home and be cozy and private. Most of the partying takes place inside my house.'
In March 2024, it was reported that the couple had been secretly engaged 'for years' after first sparking engagement rumors in 2020. However, in August 2024, Johnson rep was forced to shut down breakup rumors as outlets began to speculate that the duo were on the rocks.

Chris Martin shares two children with his ex-wife Gwyneth Paltrow, Apple Martin, born in May 2004, and Moses Martin, born in April 2006.
Throughout her relationship with Martin, Johnson was pictured out with his kids, having a great time, and going on family vacations.
In March 2024, Johnson was asked by Bustle about her relationship with Martin's children. 'I love those kids like my life depends on it. With all my heart,' she said.
In the same interview with Bustle, Johnson talked about how she's open to motherhood, too. She said, 'I'm so open to that. I've gotten to this place where I really want to experience everything that life has to offer. And especially being a woman, I'm like, What a magical f*cking thing to do. What a crazy, magical, wild experience. If that's meant to happen for me, I'm totally down for it.'
There have been numerous photos and videos of Dakota happily dancing along at a Coldplay show. In fact, in 2023, fans caught a sweet moment where Martin got her attention while she was in the VIP box.
Along with frequently going to see Martin play in concert, Johnson told Bustle she absolutely adores seeing him! 'I love watching him. I could watch him every day. I don't know how to explain it. I feel like, I don't know… I'm watching my most favorite being do his most favorite thing,' she said. 'When people are really good at things, it is [sexy.]'
In photos obtained by People in February, the pair were seen holding hands and cozying up while on vacation at Puerto Vallarta, Mexico.
Back in 2021, after four years together, they moved in together and lived in Martin's Malibu mansion. He sold it a year after and moved to another home in Malibu. And, fun fact, Johnson told SheKnows that her Daddio co-star Sean Penn is one of their celebrity neighbours.
On Nov 14, Dakota Johnson revealed at the 2023 Hope for Depression Research Foundation annual luncheon that Martin helps her out on the tough days, in a rather cute and funny way.
'A few weeks ago, I was having a low day and my partner, said to me, 'Are you really struggling?' and I said 'No?'' she said, 'And he said, 'Baby, you are wearing a Cats T-shirt.' As in Cats the music. So it turns out, I really was struggling. But that moment lifted me up and pulled me out of it.'
While Johnson frequently goes to Martin's shows, she even directed the Coldplay music video 'Cry, Cry, Cry.' The single was released on Valentine's Day in 2020, and along with Johnson, the video was also co-directed Cory Bailey.
In 2018, Harper's Bazaar reported that the two were seen with matching infinity symbol tattoos, with Johnson's on her elbow and Martin's on the inside of his arm.
As of 2023, Johnson has 12 tattoos and Martin has six.
Not only has Johnson attended many Colplay concerts and directed a music video, but she even helped Martin improve the shows by introducing him to SubPacs. For those that don't know, SubPacs are a device that helps the hearing impaired enjoy the shows more by letting them feel the vibrations of a concert.
Martin talked about it on the Conan O'Brien Needs a Friend podcast, saying, 'Dakota, my partner, gave me one as a gift because she saw someone online experiencing whatever they are experiencing with this. It's kind of like body armor that you put on. It connects to the bass.'
He added: 'So, we started using it and it's been so amazing and it should get better and better. We have ten or twenty now of those packs. So, if you're hearing impaired we have an area where you put on the pack and you can feel the show.'

Not only has Johnson been on several holidays with Chris Martin, his kids, and Gwyneth Paltrow, but Paltrow also 'adores' Dakota! Paltrow posted a birthday tribute to Johnson on Instagram in 2019, per People. And soon after, she told Harper's Bazaar, 'I love her. I can see how it would seem weird because it's sort of unconventional… I adore her.'
In a rare interview with People in 2018, Johnson's mom Melanie Griffith said, 'I adore him! 'But [Dakota] is very private about her life, and I respect that.' Along with Griffith, Dakota's dad Don Johnson talked about how he feels about Martin.

And that brings us to the family-planning option of freezing your eggs or embryos (eggs that have already been fertilized). People have a plethora of reasons for choosing to freeze their eggs, but we don't frequently hear much about what those reasons are — or even who has done it. Ballerini's divorce was finalized in Nov. 2022, and though she doesn't know if or when she will want to be a mom, she told The Evening Standard she still plans to freeze her eggs before turning 30. 'Why not!' she said. Olivia Culpo, 30 revealed in the season finale of The Culpo Sisters on TLC that she is going to freeze her eggs. The Sports Illustrated swimsuit model has been dating football player Christian McCaffrey, 26 since 2019. She said she had been putting pressure and a timeline on herself and her fertility, and she didn't want to feel rushed anymore. 'I am going to freeze my eggs so that I can have babies when the time is right for Christian [and me],' she told her family. 'It's an insurance policy. It's exciting.' Barbara Pierce Bush, daughter of president George W. Bush, froze her eggs before meeting her husband Craig Coyne, according to her twin sister, Jenna Bush Hager. In an episode of Hoda Kotb's podcast Making Space, Hager revealed that Barbara, 39, planned to become a single mom if necessary. 'Before my grandmother [First Lady Barbara Pierce Bush] died, [my sister] had a conversation with her [about having kids on her own],' Hager said. 'My grandmother said, 'I think that's a really good idea.' So Barbara froze her eggs and was planning, if she didn't meet somebody, to go ahead and do it.' In 2011, People magazine reported on Menounos' announcement on Dr. Drew's Lifechangers that she planned to freeze her eggs. 'I'm 33, and I decided that I know I have a couple of years of work I want to get to, and then do it,' she stated, continuing, 'I figured this is kind of an insurance policy.' After a more than 10-year-long long fertility journey, the couple announced in Feb. 2023 that they are expecting a child via surrogate. In 2016, Olivia Munn revealed to People magazine that she 'froze a bunch of eggs,' explaining that when she 'turned 35, then you're high risk'. She continued, 'I did, years ago, freeze a bunch of eggs. I went to the doctor and did the whole test and he said, 'You know, you actually have a lot of eggs. You're really lucky.'' The frozen eggs of Real Housewives of New York star Tinsley Mortimer became part of her season 10 storyline, with the most notable discussion about her decision coming during a particularly memorable chat with her mother about the eggs while she was trying on wedding dresses. In 2017, model and former Real Housewives of Miami star Joanna Krupa opened up about her choice to freeze her eggs. While chatting with Life & Style, Krupa explained, "Thank goodness I froze my eggs. I would honestly be freaking out right now if I didn't. You don't want to wake up one day and be like, 'My god, what was I thinking?' I decided a few years ago to freeze them so I would be safe." "Malcolm asked for Blue's Clues [recently], and I don't know who showed him Blue's Clues, but they are on my shit list now," Olivia said. "I said, 'Hell no. Not in my house.'" Olivia described how John got Malcolm into the Spider-Man cartoons, which she didn't find "interesting." Her preference is the updated live-action movies. "I put on Tom Holland's Spider-Man: Homecoming and was like, 'If you want to watch the real-life ones, then we can watch that.' It might be a little too old for him, but I can't take the cartoons." But don't worry. There's at least one children's show that makes the cut with Mama Olivia, and that's the PBS children's show Daniel Tiger's Neighborhood for one specific reason. She believes it's a "great program" because it was vital in helping Malcolm understand what it's like to become a big brother to Méi, who was welcomed via surrogate last September. "Daniel Tiger has a little sister, and we'd tell him, 'There's a baby sister coming,'" Olivia said. Even though the typical children's programming might not be on the television when Olivia's around, she's found a system that works for their family. Talking with People, she said when she first introduced Méi to her big brother, she and John made a point not to "change his world and indentity and responsiblities." "A lot of times people will be like, 'Oh, you're a big brother now. You're not the baby anymore. Now you can help mommy get the diapers.' So, all of a sudden, he has all these responsibilities, and he doesn't just get to be carefree anymore," Olivia added. "Instead, we would say, 'Now we have two babies. There's baby Méi Méi and baby Malcolm.'" In the interview, Olivia shared that she and John focus on providing their children equal attention, so, in my opinion, it makes sense that she might not want to throw that balance off with too much Ms. Rachel and animated Spider-Man. Olivia said about her 3-year-old son, "He would say, 'Mommy, come over here. Daddy, come over here,' and if we were holding the baby, we would put her down so that he wouldn't feel that all of a sudden now we can't be there for him." "It's not that we were trying to teach him that everything he says goes, but we wanted him to have the transition with her to know that we're still here whenever he needs us. Then, eventually when he'd say, 'Put Méi Méi down,' we'd say, 'No, she wants to see her mommy too.' He smiles, and he understands," Olivia said. It sounds like Olivia has a system down, and Ms. Rachel (as popular as she may be) might not be for every family. And to be honest, I support Olivia keeping cartoons outside of the house for now, especially when her husband is literally part of a cartoon series that has scenes like this: And this: Perhaps they should wait until Malcolm and Méi are full-grown adults before they start showing them cartoons, in case they become interested in their dad's show.
