EastEnders' Amy Mitchell actress reveals surprising hidden link to two co-stars

Daily Mirror22-07-2025
Ellie Dadd joined EastEnders three years ago, but has now revealed how she met two of her co-stars long before she joined the BBC One soap as troubled teen Amy Mitchell
Since joining EastEnders three years ago, Ellie Dadd has tackled big storylines focusing on self-harm and mental health as troubled teen Amy Mitchell. Now she's ready to take a break for something more lighthearted – oh, yes she is! This Christmas, Ellie will be swapping E20 for Fairfield Halls when she plays Belle in Beauty And The Beast. And while she's still only 20, Ellie is an old hand at panto.

'I started panto when I was six,' says Ellie. 'I did it for four years, age six to 10. It was the best time ever.' She enrolled in D&B Academy of Performing Arts and met her future EastEnders co-stars Tilly Keeper (Louise Mitchell) and Zack Morris (Keegan Baker), who both joined the soap ahead of her.

'It was quite fun seeing them when I got there. I was like, 'Oh, my goodness!" This panto season, however, she will be playing the princess – something she's dreamt of since she was a young girl. "Isn't it every girl's dream to play a princess at least once in their lives?' laughs Ellie.
Panto is famously gruelling, with two performances a day, and lead stars taking just Christmas Day off. But being on EastEnders has trained Ellie. EastEnders has taught me a lot,' she says. 'We film 14 scenes a day and we're there five days a week
And if a scene is not going to plan, things need to change quickly. You learn to trust your instincts,' says Ellie. 'If things go wrong, you're like, OK, that's fine. We can sort it. Everybody's there for you." Just because she's taking a break to do panto, though, it doesn't mean Ellie's character Amy is off screen for long. They're just letting me have a couple of weeks off and then I'll be back,' she says.

Next year, however, she might be asking bosses to write her out for a bit longer, as she dreams of following in the footsteps of fellow Walford waltzers such as Jamie Borthwick (Jay Brown), Bobby Brazier (Freddie Slater) and Molly Rainford (Anna Knight) to take on the challenge of Strictly Come Dancing. It was visiting the set to watch the live show that gave Ellie the Strictly bug.
'If I had the opportunity to do it, I'd absolutely love to do it,' says Ellie. 'I love everything. The costumes, the dancing, just being able to go up there every weekend and put your heart on the line and enjoy yourself.
'It was honestly crazy just to see how it all works, because you don't really get to see it from watching it at home.'

However, Ellie admits just watching the high-energy routines left her feeling fatigued. 'I don't know how those dancers do it every week," she says, laughing. 'They must be exhausted.'
Ellie was just 17 when she joined EastEnders and was soon targeted by a stalker, who was handed a nine-month suspended sentence just before Christmas 2024, plus a five-year restraining order. Despite the ordeal, Ellie insists she's coping with the rigours of fame.

'You get used to the recognition,' she smiles. 'I forget I am in a massive soap like EastEnders.' Fame might be unsettling, but Ellie feels EastEnders' high profile also means the soap can be a force for good. When Amy had a self-harm storyline, Ellie was flattered when viewers said her scenes reflected their own experiences. It's great to know that I can help a lot of people through certain situations,' says Ellie.
This year the BBC soap celebrated its 40th anniversary. Ellie was thrilled to attend the 2025 British Soap Awards, where EastEnders won the coveted Best Soap category. 'It's great to dress up and go to all these events,' says Ellie. 'It's something you don't normally get to do. It's just a completely different world.'
Acting is a tough industry so Ellie is grateful for every day playing Amy, but she has loftier ambitions too "I would love to be in a big movie or a big West End show, but it's such a difficult industry that you're very lucky to have any job in it. Whatever I'm in, I'm lucky because there are thousands of other people that would have fought to be in the position I'm in.'

Alexandra Burke's stunning body transformation with heartbreaking reason for change

The X Factor and Strictly Come Dancing star says 'nothing else matters' as she makes vow to her two young children Singer Alexandra Burke is gearing up for a busy couple of years of marathons and babies. The singer and actress has a plan, and it involves two marathons – and then two more children. ‌ The X Factor and Strictly Come Dancing favourite, who is also a mum of two and seems to have an unstoppable energy when it comes to her family and career, says she can't wait to expand her brood with fiancé Darren Randolph. The loved-up pair got engaged last year. ‌ But first, Alexandra admits, she has two major fitness goals she'd like to hit... 'I'm going to do London next year and, by the grace of god, New York,' she says as she shares her marathon plans. It comes after Taylor Swift sparks engagement rumours as fans spot Travis Kelce's lock screen ‌ READ MORE: Liz Hurley and mum stun fans as they pose in matching plunging swimsuits READ MORE: Gwyneth Paltrow admits she felt lonely in final years of marriage to Chris Martin 'And then think about more children. I'm desperate for more. We'd love four. We're good with whatever the universe gives us because we're very lucky to even have two. We'd love to try, but it's just not right now. We're fitness freaks at the minute. I'm loving work. I'm enjoying just being a mum and being an actress.' Alexandra, 36, says her health came into sharp focus eight years ago when she lost her mum, the Soul II Soul singer Melissa Bell. She was diabetic and suffered kidney failure, passing away at just 53. Taking care of herself became a key priority for Alexandra, especially since the arrival of her children, aged two and three. 'I started it eight years ago when my mum passed but I've taken it to a different level now because of running,' she explains. 'I've always been in the fitness mindset and also now I've got my kids. As long as I can be healthy and strong for them, nothing else matters. 'I feel your health is your wealth and you've just got to take care of stuff as much as you can. If there's one thing we all can control, it's what we put in our bodies, how much we move our bodies, create great endorphins and just try and find happiness in every little thing that we try and do.' ‌ Having run the London Marathon this year, Alexandra has caught the bug. 'Marathons come first now,' she laughs. 'I need to focus on the running because it gives me joy. I only ran 10k once in lockdown or I would just do 5k on the treadmill, thinking, 'Oh yeah, great run,' and now I do nine miles.' She's also set herself another fitness goal – the notoriously tough HYROX challenge. This intense challenge tests endurance and strength. Alexandra is doing it with husband Darren, 38, a goalkeeper who has played for the likes of Middlesbrough, West Ham and Birmingham City. ‌ She says the mantra of 'couples who train together stay together' is true and exercise has cemented their strong relationship. 'Darren's an athlete. I've got to keep up with him,' she says. 'He pushes me and goes, 'Alex, come on. You're having a bit of a low day today, but we'll go for a run together.' And we run together and it's amazing.' Alexandra has transformed her body with these activities and says, for her, it's a better weight-loss option than jabs. 'It's your body, your choice what you do. But my choice is to make sure my a**e is in that gym and I'm running,' she says. Also keeping the star's blood pumping is her role as Morticia in the Addams Family musical, which is currently touring – though a rehearsal injury threatened to halt the show before it had even begun. 'I injured myself in rehearsals with a suspected torn meniscus,' Bad Boys singer Alexandra revealed when she attended the Grand Prix Ball for the Make-a-Wish Foundation recently. 'The MRI came back and it wasn't torn. It would've been awful. I'm still able to do the show."

Lorraine Stanley: 'I used weight loss jabs to lose 6.5st but one shock changed my mind'

Lorraine Stanley opens up about her incredible 6 and a half stone weight loss as she prepares to walk down the aisle with her partner of 12 years Mark Perez - and returning to Albert Square When OK! catches up with former EastEnders actress Lorraine Stanley at a glitzy London ball, she couldn't look more different to Karen Taylor, the lovable yet perpetually dishevelled mum she played on the BBC soap from 2017 to 2024. Not only is the 49-year-old looking über-glamorous as we chat at the Paul Strank Charitable Trust Summer Party – she's wearing a white sparkly dress which she proudly declares was purchased on Vinted – she's barely recognisable, having lost 6½st over two years. ‌ Lorraine, who has nine-year-old daughter Nancy with her fiancé Mark Perez, shares her excitement about tying the knot this month after a two-year engagement, the secrets behind her incredible weight loss and why she's happy, for now, to be her daughter's personal taxi service… ‌ ‌ Hi, Lorraine! We hear you're getting married later this month… I am indeed. I'm getting married to my partner in a ceremony local to where we live in Hertfordshire. It's going to be low-key. From my EastEnders gang, Danny Walters is coming. I wanted them all to come, but we're just having a small, intimate wedding at a church, then a pub with a tepee and barbecue. Will Nancy have a special part to play? ‌ She's the one wearing the big white wedding dress – well, the flower girl dress. Mine's modest, really. But I'm so excited. Mark and I have been together for 12 years. So why tie the knot now? We're just in a really good place. You know, every couple goes through their ups and downs, but it feels right, we're happy. Nancy wanted us to get married, I wanted his surname – I know some women don't want that but I do. I want to be Mrs Perez. I've been abroad a few times with Nancy and was asked if she's my daughter as we have different surnames on our passports. But it's not just practicalities, it's love. ‌ Why do you and Mark work so well together? We've got an understanding, we respect each other. We give each other space, we've got our own lives. He's the best father. He's in marketing, so nothing to do with my world, though I think he could be an actor – he can be quite dramatic at times! ‌ You're 50 next year. How do you feel? I'm feeling great. I looked 20 years older when I was bigger. I certainly felt it anyway. I won't have a big showbiz bash. We might go to Disney World Florida. We'll see. You look incredible. Tell us about the transformation… ‌ I've lost 6½st. I weigh 8st now. If you look at my little wrists and ankles, this is the weight I should have been. I should be a thin person. And I always was, until I hit my late twenties. How did you lose the weight? I'm not going to lie, nor am I promoting it, but I had weight-loss surgery two years ago. I had a gastric sleeve. I went to Harley Street. I didn't go to a clinic in Turkey or anything. In saying that, I've had friends who've gone to Turkey and had great experiences, but I didn't trust that process. So, yeah, I went to a London clinic, paid an awful lot of money and had it done. It's hands-down the best thing I've ever done – both for me and for my family. ‌ I can play with my daughter. I used to be so big I couldn't chase her up the road. I was missing out on so much – even playing a bit of football with her outside. It's changed everything. It's pretty drastic surgery. What was the big lightbulb moment? I was at home watching an episode of EastEnders I was in and I could barely look at myself. The person on screen was unrecognisable to me. I know TV puts a stone on you, but… so yes, there was an element of vanity, but it was also me wanting to change things for my daughter and our future. ‌ Did you try any weight-loss jabs before opting for surgery? Yeah, I'd tried Wegovy. I have friends on different weight-loss jabs and they work for them. I'm not against them, but for whatever reason I feel like I got immune to them. It got to the point where I was injecting myself and eating at the same time. I was thinking, 'What the hell are you doing?' So I decided that was it, time to get this surgery booked. ‌ Do you feel like a new woman? Where do I start? I'm healthier, I'm fitter and it's changed my mindset for the better. I still enjoy a square or two of chocolate, but everything's in small portions. I can eat what I want, just smaller amounts of it. It has been hard, though. You've got to work at your portions. You don't want to overeat as you can stretch the gastric band. And you don't want to do that as you've paid good money for it. But for me – and this is totally personal – it's the best thing I could have done. ‌ Would you go back on EastEnders? Maybe – they didn't kill me off. But right now, I wouldn't. I'm enjoying Nancy. On EastEnders, I missed a lot of milestones. Now I'm like her personal taxi driver for skateboarding, piano lessons – and I love it. I've gone for a few auditions. I haven't got anything yet, but I will. And if I don't, I don't mind that either. I'm so happy being a mum. Would you go on any of the big reality TV shows? If the money was amazing, maybe. But it's not my thing. I love acting, theatre especially, so I want to try and keep on that path. I'd love a role at the National Theatre. That's where I started my career, so it would be a nice full-circle moment.
