'Nothing wrong has happened': Akal Takht head granthi on influencer killing

In the Sikh religious hierarchy, the head granthi holds the second-most important position after the jathedar. While the jathedar addresses broader issues affecting the community, the head granthi is responsible for upholding the 'maryada' (code of conduct) and managing rituals and ceremonies at the Akal Takht, the highest temporal seat of Sikhism.
Details of the murder and investigation
Kanchan Kumari's body was discovered on June 11 inside a car parked at Adesh University in Bathinda. Police said she had been strangled. The deceased was a resident of Lachman Colony in Ludhiana.
Two individuals — Jaspreet Singh and Nimratit Singh — have been arrested in connection with the case. The prime accused, Amritpal Singh Mehron, is believed to have fled to the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
Bathinda Superintendent of Police Amneet Kondal said on Sunday that a lookout circular had been issued against Mehron, who hails from Moga. The 30-year-old is a self-proclaimed Sikh radical and heads an organisation called 'Qaum De Rakhe'.
Mehron has previously issued threats to at least two other women social media influencers in Punjab, according to the police. Authorities have since taken steps to block some of his social media accounts.
Accused posts video claiming responsibility
Following the murder, a video emerged online in which Mehron claimed that Kumari was killed due to her 'vulgar content' on social media. He acknowledged the arrest of two of his associates and issued a stern warning to other influencers sharing 'objectionable content'.
In the video, he also indirectly threatened another content creator, saying, 'It is not necessary that a body will be found every time,' referencing how Kumari's body was discovered in her car.
Amid the threats, Amritsar-based influencer Deepika Luthra has been placed under police protection. Luthra reportedly received similar threats from Mehron and his associates, prompting authorities to ensure her safety.

Children's park, affiliated institutions handed over to Ernakulam CWC
KOCHI: Indira Priyadarshini Children's Park and other affiliated institutions near Marine Drive were handed over to the State Child Welfare Committee (CWC) as per a High Court order on Saturday. The park was illegally occupied by an Ernakulam-based independent organisation, claiming to be the CWC, for around 25 years. The CWC approached the HC as the organisation was mismanaging the huge income generated from the facility. 'We demanded to hand over the administration of the park to the District CWC. Though the government had renovated the park, several areas are currently lying uninhabited due to a lack of proper maintenance,' said State CWC general secretary G L Arun Gopi. The day-to-day administration of the children's park, theatre and other facilities has now been handed over to the Ernakulam District CWC. Former Ernakulam district collector N S K Umesh issued an order on the same on July 23 based on the interim order of the High Court and the legal advice of the advocate general. The facility was handed over to the district committee in the presence of State Administrative Committee member Adv Yesudas Parappally, District CWC secretary Adv Sunil Hareendran, vice-president Adv K S Arun Kumar and others. Meanwhile, Arun made allegations of financial fraud. 'We have evidence showing that the independent organisation has been committing financial fraud under the guise of maintaining the children's park for years. An investigation is under way,' said Arun, adding that the children's theatre and childcare centre attached to the children's park will be operational within a month.

Export company director booked; cheating case filed in Mumbai
MUMBAI: A Mumbai-based licensed customs broker has filed a complaint accusing an export company and its directors of defrauding him of ₹7.85 crore in unpaid dues for customs clearance and logistics services. The Pant Nagar Police have booked Raghuram Thandersi, his wife Sariga, Danesha, and Laxman Nagula under the BNS of fraud, criminal breach of trust, and conspiracy. The complainant, Rajesh Nakhua, proprietor of Make India Impex, stated in his FIR that he started his customs clearing and forwarding business in 2021. During this period, he met Laxman Nagula, Chief Business Manager of M/s Elite Green Private Limited, who introduced him to the company's three directors operating from their Ahmedabad office. According to police, Nagula claimed that Elite Green was engaged in large-scale exports of rice and sugar to countries including Afghanistan, the US, Oman, Singapore, and Canada. The company initially paid ₹15.09 crore, citing it as tax-related payments, but allegedly delayed and withheld the balance of ₹7.85 crore despite repeated follow-ups. The complainant alleged that between May 2023 and April 2024, his firm provided end-to-end services including customs documentation, container booking, handling, and statutory compliance. Payments for these services were to be made within 30 to 45 days of each shipment. While the firm initially made partial payments, the complaint states that after October 2023, the accused stopped clearing invoices altogether, citing 'financial difficulties' despite continuing to export goods worth several crores. By March 2024, the broker claimed his outstanding dues reached ₹7.85 crore, including principal amounts and interest. Nakhua further alleged that the sugar consignment supplied by Elite Green was of substandard quality, leading to it being stuck aboard a vessel for four months. This delay, he claimed, resulted in detention and demurrage charges amounting to ₹7.17 crore, which, based on Nagula's instructions, Make India Impex was compelled to pay. The complainant further alleged that investigations revealed the accused directors diverted payments from foreign buyers to other bank accounts and shell companies, bypassing their contractual obligations. He has named multiple bank accounts in the complaint, along with airway bills and shipping bills allegedly used in the fraudulent transactions. Three Thai soldiers injured by landmine amid tense Cambodia border ceasefire
Bangkok [Thailand], August 10 (ANI): Three Thai soldiers were injured by a landmine while patrolling the border with Cambodia, the Royal Thai Armed Forces said, days after the two countries agreed to a detailed ceasefire following last month's violent five-day conflict, Al Jazeera soldier lost a foot, while two others sustained injuries after stepping on a landmine in an area between Thailand's Sisaket and Cambodia's Preah Vihear provinces on Saturday morning, the military added.
