'The Italian Global Series Festival is dedicated to showcasing both Italian and International series content and is a reimagining of the highly successful RomaFictionFest, which ran for 10 years until 2017,' organizers said.
In its first year, the IGSF will screen 28 new series in its competitive strands, which will compete for Maximo awards, which organizers hope will become something like an Italian equivalent to the Emmy Awards.
Among special presentations, Netflix will showcase Too Much by screening the first two episodes ahead of the show's global launch on July 10. For Squid Game, the fest will host the first episode of the third and final season. Selected episodes from Prime Video's second season of Pesci Piccoli will also screen, introduced by the show's stars.
Among more sneak peeks, previews, premieres and retrospectives, as well as fan events, there will be an event dedicated to Fremantle-owned Lux Vide's upcoming pirate adventure series Sandokan, starring Turkish actor Can Yaman.
The international competition program is divided into three sections: drama, comedy and limited series. Across each of the sections, the following awards will be bestowed: best series, best leading actor, best leading actress and best creator and/or director.
Also part of the proceedings will be masterclasses, such as 'Screenwriting for Television' with screenwriter, director and Emmy-winning producer Mark Gatiss, whose new series Bookish will receive its world premiere at the festival, and a session with creator and screenwriter Steven Moffat (Douglas Is Cancelled, Doctor Who, Sherlock) and his wife and producer Sue Vertue.
Said IGSF artistic director Marco Spagnoli: 'Projecting series on the big screen offers a very important cultural and social dimension, appealing not only to fans, but for all those who love seriality and the possibilities offered by these stories. Our mission at IGSF is to enhance the Italian industry in the context of European – gnd Global – collaboration.'
Seven Maximo Excellence Awards will be handed out as well. 'Italian recipients include Carlo Verdone and Elena Sofia Ricci; as well as Academy Award-winning composer Giorgio Moroder; Evangeline Lilly, principal cast from the genre-defining series Lost; British actress Adjoa Andoh, best known for her work on smash hit Bridgerton,' organizers said. And actress Jacqueline Fernandez and Iria Del Río will collect the award for work on the series Dieci Capodanni.

Lauren Sanchez Hit With Lawsuit Ahead of Venice Wedding With Jeff Bezos: Report
Lauren Sanchez's former friend reportedly struck her with a federal lawsuit ahead of her wedding to Jeff Bezos. The Daily Mail shared details from author Alanna Zabel's copyright infringement and breach of contract suit against Sanchez in the days leading up to the extravagant Venetian ceremony in the Italian city. Zabel, who wrote 'Dharma Kitty Goes to Mars,' accused the journalist of stealing her book's storyline for her New York Times bestseller, 'The Fly Who Flew To Space.' Furthermore, she has sought unspecified damages. The Daily Mail acquired court documents of Lauren Sanchez's lawsuit that accused her of copyright infringement days before her and Jeff Bezos' wedding in Venice. Her apparent feud with Alanna Zabel began after the former's 40th birthday over a dance-off. Zabel's suit claimed that Sanchez has harbored 'resentment' since then and copied her book idea 'scene for scene, plot point by plot point, and page by page' in revenge. The bride-to-be published her children's book 'The Fly Who Flew To Space,' a New York Times bestseller, in 2024. In the lawsuit, Zabel accused the journalist of trolling her by designing her Blue Origin space suit to resemble the one from her book. The claims revealed they 'became close friends' after Zabel began giving her private yoga lessons in 2008. The former friends once shared 'intimate secrets,' called each other nicknames, and even worked on a children's book together. Allegedly, Sanchez signed a non-disclosure agreement, but their friendship hit a rough patch soon. The lawsuit revealed that Lauren Sanchez and Alanna Zabel's rift dates back to November 2009. It was the journalist's birthday party when Zabel's dancing outshone hers, and she 'grew frustrated.' Sanchez then 'flicked' away her friend, humiliating her. After cutting ties, the latter tried to reconcile, but was 'ghosted.' The suit alleged that the socialite 'has harbored resentment toward Zabel since this incident.' She seemingly exacted 'revenge' by 'copying Zabel's children's book' and 'infringing Zabel's copyright.' Furthermore, the court filings shared a page-by-page comparison of the two books to exhibit 'the level of similarity.' The documents revealed that Sanchez was 'clearly' aware of her former friend's book. Zabel also accused Sanchez of taking 'the primary subject matter and/or action directly' from her book and using her 'connections' with Bezos and other powerful individuals to get her book on the New York Times bestseller list. The social media and fitness influencer known as the "Liver King" was arrested in Austin, TX. That's according to KXAN-TV, which reported that the "Liver King's" real name is Brian Johnson, and jail records showed him in custody on the evening of June 24. The jail records obtained by Men's Journal online do confirm that a Brian Johnson is being held on a potential charge of making terroristic threats. He was booked at 7:31 p.m. on June 24 by the Austin Police Department, the jail records say. Sources told KXAN that the Johnson on the jail list is the same person as the "Liver King." The Liver King was featured on Untold: The Liver King on Netflix. "He built a supplement empire by devouring raw meat on social media. And he had the muscles to prove it. But, really, how did the Liver King get so huge?" the Netflix caption reads. The nature of the alleged threats is not clear, nor is the person they were made against. However, the "Liver King" recently posted about Rogan: "Joe Rogan, I'm calling you out, my name's Liver King. Man to man, I'm picking a fight with you. I have no training in Jiu-jitsu, you're a black belt, you should dismantle me. But I'm picking a fight with you. Your rules, I'll come to you, whenever you're ready.' It's not clear whether the Rogan comments have anything to do with the Liver King's arrest, though. The Liver King has 2.9 million followers on Instagram. The top video on the Liver King's page shows a man in a police uniform. Another video starts with the narration, "I'm now recording with the cops outside." A video was captioned, "Liver king is stood in a shower pouring coffee up his arse picking a fight with Joe rogan before GTA 6."
