Polepalli: As part of the 'Intintiki Telugu Desam' (TDP Door-to-Door) campaign marking one year of the alliance government's rule under Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, Kalyandurg MLA Amilineni Surendra Babu visited Polepalli village in Brahmasamudram mandal to interact directly with the people and understand their issues.
During the visit, the MLA assured that eligible beneficiaries would soon receive sanctioned pensions and housing under welfare schemes.
'There were no pensions or housing sanctions in the past five years. That situation has changed. Now, every eligible person will get their due,' he affirmed.
He urged people to approach the village secretariats, where officials are readily available to assist with applications. He also responded positively to a local request for the construction of a temple at the BC Colony, promising swift action.
Accompanied by party leaders and local residents, the MLA was welcomed warmly by villagers.
He offered floral tributes to statues of Bhakta Kanakadasa, Maharshi Valmiki and Dr B R Ambedkar before starting his outreach.
Amilineni emphasised that the door-to-door visits were aimed at understanding if welfare schemes like ‚ Talliki Vandhanam' and pensions were reaching households. He noted with satisfaction that in many families with four to five students, the mothers had indeed received benefits.
He also announced that under the 'Annadata Sukhibhava' scheme, financial support for farmers would be credited directly into their bank accounts this month. The MLA concluded by stating that such visits would continue across all villages to ensure effective governance and public engagement.

Haj pilgrims urged to avail of Vijayawada embarkation point

VIJAYAWADA: The Chairman of the Andhra Pradesh State Haj Committee, SK Hasan Basha, has urged Haj pilgrims to make full use of the Vijayawada Embarkation Point this year. He expressed gratitude to the State leadership for their commitment to the welfare of pilgrims and to retain embarkation point at Vijayawada. Addressing the media on Wednesday, Sk Hasan Basha said as promised in the election manifesto, the State government is providing Rs 1 lakh financial assistance to each Hajj pilgrim and Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu successfully secured Vijayawada as an official embarkation point for Haj. He said Haj pilgrims traveling this year are encouraged to choose Vijayawada as their departure point to ensure the continuation of these services in future. He said the coalition government has taken significant steps to improve facilities for pilgrims, correcting previous shortcomings. The Chairman thanked CM Chandrababu Naidu, Deputy CM Pawan Kalyan, and Education Minister Nara Lokesh for their active support. Hasan Basha stated that the Central Haj Committee has allotted 2,550 slots for Andhra Pradesh pilgrims this year. He recalled that last year, 72 pilgrims from Vijayawada received Rs 1 lakh each from the coalition government, which was widely appreciated. He said in order to retain the embarkation point in Vijayawada in future, a large number of pilgrims must depart from Vijayawada Airport only. So far, over 1,900 pilgrims have already applied through Vijayawada, and a request has been submitted to the Central Haj Committee to extend the application deadline, which ends on August 7, he added. Hasan Basha also noted that previously, most pilgrims travelled via Hyderabad and Bengaluru, but this year, the Haj Committee has actively promoted Vijayawada to increase awareness and participation.

YSRCP urges SEC to act on Pulivendula violence

Vijayawada: A delegation of senior YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) leaders met Andhra Pradesh State Election Commissioner Neelam Sawhney in Vijayawada on Wednesday, raising serious concerns about the violence 'unleashed' by TDP-backed goons in Pulivendula during the ZPTC by-election campaign. The leaders submitted detailed evidence and urged the Commission to intervene immediately and ensure a peaceful and democratic election process. Former ministers Perni Venkataramaiah (Nani), Velampalli Srinivas, MLCs Lella Appi Reddy and Ramesh Yadav, former MLA Malladi Vishnu, and other key district leaders including Devineni Avinash, Manohar Reddy, and Mayor Rayana Bhagyalakshmi were part of the delegation. They highlighted a series of violent incidents, including the brutal attack on MLC Ramesh Yadav and YSRCP leader Velpula Ramu, allegedly by over 30 TDP men armed with sticks and weapons. The victims were chased, dragged out of their vehicles, and assaulted near Nallagondavaripalli village, while the police remained mute spectators. The leaders alleged that the police and local administration were working hand-in-glove with the ruling party and failing to provide basic security to opposition candidates. They accused the TDP of deliberately creating fear among voters and misusing State power to disrupt the election. They also claimed YSRCP leaders were being targeted with bind-over cases and false arrests. The YSRCP delegation demanded that the Election Commission take immediate and stern action to stop the violence, protect candidates, and ensure free and fair local body elections in Pulivendula and across the State.

State Cabinet approves land swap for Oberoi Hotel Project in Tirupati

TIRUPATI: The State Cabinet has approved a land exchange proposal between the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) and the Andhra Pradesh Tourism Authority (APTA), facilitating the establishment of a luxury hotel by the Oberoi Group in Tirupati Rural mandal. At its meeting held on Wednesday, the Cabinet sanctioned the swapping of 24.68 acres of APTA land in Survey No. 604 at Peruru village with 25 acres of TTD land in Survey No. 588A of the same village. This follows a resolution passed by the TTD Board during an emergency meeting on May 7 at Tirumala, chaired by TTD Chairman B R Naidu, supporting the land swap. The decision effectively revives, with changes, an earlier plan to allocate land near Alipiri to the Oberoi Group. In January 2023, the then YSRCP government had allotted 24.68 acres to the group along the Alipiri–SV Zoo Park road in Peruru for a luxury hotel project under the name 'Mumtaz Hotels'. However, the project faced opposition from Hindu groups who objected to the hotel's name and its proximity to the pilgrimage site, citing concerns over the sanctity of the area. After the change in government, TTD Chairman B R Naidu raised objections to the original allotment. In March 2025, the TTD Board resolved to cancel both the 35-acre land granted to Mumtaz Hotels and the land sanctioned for the Devlok project near the Alipiri–Cherlopalli road. Subsequently, Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu instructed TTD to identify an alternative site. The newly approved location lies on the opposite side of the same road, reportedly situated between Aravind Eye Hospital and TATA Cancer Institute. With the Cabinet's approval, the earlier land allotment stands officially cancelled, allowing the Oberoi Group to proceed with its project at the new site.
