Three shot dead in police raid on 4x4 theft syndicate hideout in Kedah
According to Sinar Harian, Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department director Datuk Seri Mohd Shuhaily Mohd Zain said the 2.30am raid followed intelligence on a syndicate stealing vehicles in Melaka, Selangor, Pahang, and Perak for cross-border smuggling.
He said the three suspects, aged between 35 and 37, responded aggressively by firing shots at police and attacking with a machete.
Police returned fire in self-defence, resulting in all suspects suffering fatal injuries at the scene.
A subsequent search uncovered two pistols, several bullet casings and a machete believed to have been used by the suspects.
Mohd Shuhaily said all three men were from Negeri Sembilan and had prior criminal records involving vehicle theft and drug-related offences.
During the raid, police also found a Honda CR-V reported stolen in Petaling Jaya in April.
A search of the vehicle revealed 26 fake licence plates and various tools used for car theft.
The syndicate, active since 2023, is believed to be responsible for 73 cases of 4x4 vehicle theft, chosen for their ease of smuggling through illegal border routes.
Later that same day, a joint operation involving Malaysian and Thai authorities in Songkhla led to the arrest of four Thai nationals believed to be vehicle couriers, while efforts continue to locate the syndicate leader and remaining members.

Earlier today, FMT reported that more than 100 plantation workers from Perak, Negeri Sembilan, Selangor, Kedah and Johor marched from Taman Tugu in the capital to Parliament to submit a memorandum on housing and a draft bill making it compulsory for estates to provide homes for local plantation workers. PETALING JAYA : Two Form 1 students were charged in the Sungai Petani magistrates' court today with hurting and confining a classmate in their school toilet last month. The two 13-year-olds pleaded not guilty after the charges were read to them in Tamil before magistrate Azlan Basri, Berita Harian reported. The students were jointly charged with voluntarily causing hurt to the victim, also 13, in the toilet of the school's Form 6 block at about 6.40pm on July 14. In the second charge, they were jointly accused of confining the victim at the same place and time. Deputy public prosecutor Hazwani Nor proposed bail of RM4,000 each, but their lawyer, N Nagaratnam, requested a lower sum, citing their age and cooperation with the police. The court fixed bail at RM2,000 with one surety each, ordered them not to harass the victim, and set case mention for Sept 23.

Year 2 pupil suffers facial fractures in alleged assault by schoolmates

The incident came to light when the boy returned home at about 4pm with blood and bruises on his face. According to his mother, he was attacked by several pupils who held his arms and punched him in the face until he fell. 'I brought him to a private clinic, where X-rays confirmed the injuries. He was then referred to Sultanah Nur Zahirah Hospital in Kuala Terengganu,' Bernama reported her as saying today. The boy, the second of three siblings, underwent surgery this morning to repair the nasal fracture. His mother said this was not the first time that he had been bullied. In June, he suffered an eye injury after being hit with a rock, but no police report was lodged at the time. However, following the latest incident, she said she had decided to take legal action. The mother also said the school met with the parents of the pupils involved on Monday to discuss the matter. Kuala Terengganu police chief Azli Noor confirmed receiving a report, and said a preliminary investigation suggested that the incident stemmed from teasing among the pupils. 'The case has been referred to the school management and the Kuala Terengganu education office for further action,' he said.
