Netflix drops every episode of 'suspense-filled' period drama with Line of Duty

Metro2 days ago

Netflix has added two seasons of a period drama starring Line of Duty's Gina McKee, with heaps of praise from viewers who have already watched all 10 episodes.
The Forsyte Saga will be catnip for fans of Downton Abbey, with a similar time period and even premise, as the show chronicles the lives of three generations of the wealthy Forsyte family.
Based on Nobel Prize winner John Galsworthy's novel, the show is a sweeping portrait of the well-off British family in 1880s London, running up to 1920.
This Bafta-winning adaptation – which is now available in its entirety to stream on Netflix – was originally released in 2002 on ITV, with a cast including Wolf Hall's Damian Lewis as well as Gina McKee.
The novel had previously been adapted for TV by the BBC in 1967 and was watched by audiences of up to 18 million – in the heyday of terrestrial TV. It is widely considered to be the first modern costume drama.

Lewis stars in the drama as Soames Forsyte – an uptight man in an evolving London – who is married to Gina McKee's chilly character Irene, who quite openly marries for money and loathes her husband. She strives to redefine herself as a woman in a changing England.
The rest of The Forsyte Saga is one of rivalries, resentments and sumptuous manor houses, set against the dying embers of the British Empire.
'It's a family of power that saw its world crumbling around it,' Lewis told The New York Times in an interview on the show.
'It's a moment in time encapsulated by Downton Abbey and The Forsyte Saga that people really respond to, I think.'
Viewers have shared their glowing reviews of the show on Google, with Reba Hatfield describing it as a plot that evolves over 'suspense-filled episodes'.
'Tour de force performances from the entire cast,' wrote Bill Ranieri in his review. 'Very moving story with many emotional moments. Worth the trouble. Old Jolyon was a favorite of mine.' More Trending
Kitty Black added: 'I love to watch this every 5 or 10 years. Long enough so I don't remember everything. It's such a top notch production. The costumes, the properties, the drama of it all just sweeps you into another time.'
It comes amid another adaptation of Galsworthy's novel for Channel 5, starring Doctor Who's Millie Gibson and Poldark's Eleanor Tomlinson.
This third TV version was confirmed by Deadline, with Poldark writer Debbie Horsfield on board as the writer of the adaption, which is set to become a returning series. The show does not yet have a release date.

Topless Tyson! Fury spotted wearing nothing but a KILT as he films latest Netflix series in obscure Scottish town - as fans hail 'Viking' look

Tyson Fury looked every inch the Braveheart warrior as he strode around a Scottish town flashing his topless muscular torso - wearing a kilt and a whole load of attitude. The Gypsy King was posing for the cameras in filming for season two of his Netflix series 'At Home with The Furys'. Netflix confirmed another run of the show after the nine-part first series garnered positive reviews and a mammoth 2.6million viewers on the opening episode alone. Cameras have been trailing Fury, 36, for the last couple of weeks for more content with Fury, childhood sweetheart wife Paris, and their seven children. He reaffirmed his retirement from boxing in May after rumours that he could return, having retired for the fifth time in January. And while fans might not be treated to any more bouts involving the two-time world heavyweight champion, they did enjoy his look with the kilt, tartan tie, socks, and big boots as he sauntered around Grantown-on-Spey. 'The people champion,' commented one user on his Instagram video. 'I'm thinking techno Viking,' said another. You my man are my HERO.' commented 11-time world champion and former 'Golden Boy of Boxing' Oscar de la Hoya. 'Beast of a man,' wrote JD Tom Zanetti. Some desperately clung to the hope that he might once again don his boxing gloves, with one supporter asking: 'Promo for a comeback fight?' Fury was back on our screens in a different capacity at the weekend as he helped manage England at Soccer Aid. He left viewers shocked as he dropped the f-bomb live on ITV. It came as the boxer gave the England team a motivational speech in the dressing room. During his words of encouragement, he told the lads: 'We are f***ing Spartans.' It forced Alex Scott to apologise to viewers at home, before she threw back to Dermot O'Leary, 52, who was standing by on the pitch. Scott, 40, told fans: 'We do apologise for the swearing. It's Tyson we don't know what's going to happen.' Not that the motivational twist helped the team much - they ended up losing 5-4 to the World XI after Carlos tevez struck four times and Big Zuu scored the winner, with £15million raised for UNICEF.

Phil Tufnell's frank five-word answer to controversial Question of Sport exit

Phil Tufnell was one of three stars that were replaced on A Question of Sport in 2020 along with Sue Barker and Matt Dawson in a controversial shake-up of the show It did not come as a shock to Phil Tufnell when the BBC dropped himself, Sue Barker and Matt Dawson from A Question of Sport in 2020. The 59-year-old cricket icon had been a staple member of the show ever since he was named as a team captain in 2007. After 13 years he, Barker and Dawson were told that they would not be continuing in their role as the Beeb wanted to shake up the format and the personnel of the show. Barker was replaced by Take Me Out presenter Paddy McGuinness, while Tufnell and Dawson made way for Olympian Sam Quek and rugby's Ugo Monye. ‌ After the revamped format was put on the shelf in 2023, former Football Focus host Dan Walker took to social media and suggested the BBC had "alienated their core audience while searching for a new one" with their decision-making. Tennis icon Barker, who had presented the show for more than 20 years, has also admitted that she was unhappy with the way in which they were let go by the BBC. ‌ While speaking at the launch of The Overlap and Betfair's Stick to Cricket show, Tufnell admitted he was not left speechless when the decision was broke to him. He told Wales Online: "You can't do things forever." Tuffers explained: "They had been talking about it and what have you. I wasn't really involved in it. We'd all been doing it for a while. Well, more than a while, around 13 or 14 years I'd been captain. "They fancied a bit of a refresh. We were just sort of like, 'Okay, well, there you go. Thanks very much for the memories. I thoroughly enjoyed every single show. Loved every minute of it.' "Now we're doing the theatre show. It's not called a Question of Sport, of course. We're all good friends, all got a very similar sense of humour. "We all get on very well so it's great to be back recreating it a little bit. Obviously, you think to yourself, 'Oh crikey,' but we wished everyone the best. It was part of our lives." ‌ In a statement released at that time, the BBC said: "We would like to thank Sue for her enormous contribution as the show's longest reigning host over the last 24 years, and Matt and Phil for their excellent team captaincy over 16 and 12 years respectively. "Together they have ensured A Question of Sport remains a firm favourite with the BBC One audience. Sue, Matt and Phil's final series will be broadcast next year." When the show was shelved in 2023, a BBC spokesman hinted at the possibility of its revival by stating the decision was "not the final whistle." Tufnell said he would like to see the show return to the nation's screens, but would not expect a phone call from the BBC if it did. ‌ He added: "I hope it does come back. It was part of my childhood. It had been going for 55 years, a long time. "I loved the show when I was on it and I loved it as a boy. It was one of those little half hours that you sat round with your family. "Hopefully, it comes back. I'd be delighted to sit down and watch it. Whether we do it again, I'm not so sure. But, we've had our time, haven't we?" Betfair are set for a big summer and winter of cricket, launching a new show with The Overlap: Stick to Cricket. Don't miss the first episode next week, where the team will be reviewing the opening test of the series between England and India

The iconic character - who is played by actress Michelle Ryan in the BBC soap - returned last night looking worse for wear. Credit: BBC Clutching a bag of booze and having barely recovered from her hangover, Zoe looked to be in an out of control and desperate situation. But there was a clue that suggests Zoe is in fact the mother of predatory incel Joel who recently arrived in the Square. Viewers know he has been grooming Tommy Moon to be as misogynistic and vile as he is - and last night he opened up about his own mummy issues. And coinciding with Zoe's return as a mess seems to suggest the two are linked. 'You don't talk about your family… is your mum in Australia?' asked Tommy of Joel. Joel told him: 'No - my mum's a slapper.' 'It's just… my mum ran off when I was little,' he added. 'And my dad moved us to Australia for a fresh start but he was always working. 'I just hated it. And the kids took the mick out of me for my accent. 'I asked the teacher if I could go to the loo on the first day. Didn't know it was called the dunny, did I? So I was called Lulu from then on. 'Didn't say a word for six months, in case I said it wrong after that. Then when I finally fought back, I got expelled. Blackmail horror for EastEnders teenager as sexual predator Joel targets another victim 'Then when I finally met some real mates, dad met Vicky and dragged me back here. I didn't have a choice in any of it and now I'm stuck in this dump.' Joel was also pouring poison into Tommy's ear about his mum - who if the hint is correct - is his own grandmother. Zoe has since fled the country to go to Barcelona but will return later this summer. Will her secret be revealed then?
