Vir Das Trolls Cannes 2025 Ban On Nudity, Big Gowns: ‘If I Can't Wear A Gota Original…'
Last Updated:
Vir Das hilariously reacts to Cannes film festival's ban on nudity and voluminous gowns, joking about missing the festival over his bold fashion plans.
As the Cannes Film Festival kicked off on May 14 with its controversial new red carpet rules banning nudity and voluminous outfits, comedian Vir Das didn't miss the chance to poke fun at the development. Known for his sharp wit, Vir shared a satirical Instagram post claiming he would no longer attend Cannes because of the dress code and hilariously described the outfit he had 'planned" to wear.
'It's with deep regret that I announce I will no longer be attending the Cannes film festival because of the new red carpet rules. For multiple generations nude voluminous gowns with large trains have been culturally specific to the comedy community," Vir wrote.
Detailing his imagined look, he added, 'This year I had planned a dark beige, 78-foot-long, off-shoulder piece that moved finely into sleeves that covered my wrists, but dipped lower and gently showcased the heart of my scrotum."
'But if I can't wear a Gota original, I refuse to let our culture be shunted," he continued. 'I was planning on taking multiple selfies of cultural significance. But someone has to take a stand. I wish the festival all the best."
His post sparked a wave of laughter online. One fan commented, 'Could you plz make the AI make a virtual image of your special dress… Some people like me have a little difficulty visualizing the outfit." Another joked, 'We respect your decision and stand by you in such difficult times." A third added, 'We have been robbed. Maybe you can use this costume for one of your shows?"
Several celebrities, including Prateik Smita Patil, Lilette Dubey, and Tahira Kashyap, joined in with laughing emojis.
Meanwhile, despite the ban, stars like Heidi Klum and Chinese actor Wan QianHui flouted the new rules on opening night. Klum wore a pink-and-white gown with a dramatic train, while Wan QianHui stunned in a cloudlike ensemble resembling giant cotton balls. Cannes jury member Halle Berry reportedly changed her look to align with the new policy.

Karan Johar says the biggest issue of Bollywood is ‘herd mentality': Everybody wants to make horror comedies
Karan Johar thinks several people in the film industry are trying to emulate a success story to capitalise on the audience's interest and make their own films work. However, that is not going to work. In an interview with Bollywood Hungama, when Karan was asked what is currently the biggest issue that is plaguing Bollywood, Karan said it is 'herd mentality' and went on to explain his point. (Also read: Karan Johar says he wants his kids Yash and Roohi to be like Shah Rukh Khan's kids Aryan Khan, Suhana Khan: Here's why) During the interaction, Karan said, 'I think it is everybody grappling to do what others are doing. We see Pushpa running and catering so strongly to the tier-2 and tier-3 audiences, suddenly, we will see 20 others wanting to do the same. You see Chhaava working, everybody would want to make historicals. Stree and everybody wants to make horror comedies. Those worked because they were individually strong, and there was no other option in that genre. It was a unique thought that made those films work. ' He went on to add, 'We all need to have individual thoughts that are unique to ourselves. Someone asked me the other day, 'Do you have a universe?' I was like, 'As in?' They were like, 'A spy universe or a cop universe.' I was like, 'My universe is cinema itself.' I am not here to build universes, I am here to tell stories. In that story if there's a universe, then why not?' Karan was recently at the Cannes Film Festival for the premiere of his film Homebound, a film that was backed by his banner Dharma Productions. Directed by Neeraj Ghaywan, the film stars Ishaan Khatter, Vishal Jethwa and Janhvi Kapoor.

Aamir Khan Spotted With GF Gauri Spratt, Poses With Fans At Mumbai Airport
Last Updated: Aamir Khan and his ladylove Gauri Spratt rocked comfy casual outfits as they arrived together at Mumbai Airport on Tuesday. Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan and his ladylove Gauri Spratt were spotted by the paparazzi on Tuesday. The couple arrived at the Mumbai Airport, and were seen quickly making their way inside the airport. Aamir, who is gearing up for the release of his film Sitaare Zameen Par, was also seen happily obliging his fans for selfies as they approached him at the airport. Aamir and Gauri's relationship has been making headlines ever since the superstar introduced his girlfriend to the media, in an informal meet-and-greet ahead of his 60 th birthday. A video shared by paparazzo Viral Bhayani shows Gauri Spratt first stepping out of the car, holding a huge pillow. She then quickly made her way to the airport gate. Meanwhile, Aamir Khan stepped out after her. While he also seemed to be in a hurry, he did happily pose for pictures with his fans who approached him. Both Gauri and Aamir rocked comfortable and casual airport looks. While Gauri donned a blue short kurti with denim jeans, Aamir was also seen in a red printed kurta with jeans. Check out the video below! View this post on Instagram A post shared by Viral Bhayani (@viralbhayani) Recently, in a conversation with Raj Shamani, Aamir admitted that following his divorce from Kiran Rao in 2021, he wasn't looking to fall in love again. 'Before I met Gauri, I felt like I had aged… Who will I find at this age?" Aamir reflected. 'Therapy really helped me understand that I needed to love myself first. I had to heal and work on my own emotional health." He further added, 'Gauri and I met by mistake. We connected, became friends… and love happened." Meanwhile, on the professional front, Aamir Khan will soon be seen in the film 'Sitaare Zameen Par', which also stars Genelia Deshmukh, and brings together a cast of 10 neurodivergent actors. In a conversation with News18 Showsha, Aamir explained that the story felt like a natural continuation of the message his 2007 film 'Taare Zameen Par' tried to deliver. 'The script felt like an extension of what we were trying to say in Taare. That film was about inclusion, about a child with a learning disability. But in Sitaare, the challenge is even greater. It deals with individuals who have intellectual disabilities—children on the autism spectrum, with Down syndrome—who are much more atypical compared to dyslexia. And what's even more beautiful is that this time, it's not the neurotypical person helping them, but the other way around. The neurodivergent kids help the coach. That's why I feel this film goes ten steps ahead in the same theme," he said. Sitaare Zameen Par is a sports comedy drama film directed by R. S. Prasanna, and produced by Aamir Khan and Aparna Purohit. It will release in theatres on June 20, 2025. First Published:
