Porsche 911 Carjacked At Dealership During Service Visit

A Porsche 911 Carrera was carjacked at gunpoint by suspects outside a dealership in Memphis, Tennessee on February 24. Thankfully, the victims, a father and his son, weren't hurt in the ordeal. But this crime shows that you always have to be on the lookout for potential carjackers, a sad reality we live in these days.As the father and son were parking the Porsche in the rear parking lot of the dealership, a black BMW crossover pulled up alongside. One man got out and was wearing a ski mask plus hoodie. The victims saw the suspect had a gun as he ordered them out of the car and he took off with it.
For many car theft stories, that's the end. Sometimes the vehicle is found later stripped of many parts, perhaps even just a husk without wheels or body panels. But this story gets far more interesting.
Doing some investigative work, Memphis Police recognized the Bimmer as one stolen from a hotel back on February 15. They started looking for the vehicle and eventually found it on February 25, with the aviation unit involved. That might have involved drones or a helicopter, we're not sure.
Three people were in the BMW. The driver, 23-year-old Averion Finley, is a convicted felon who was in possession of a Glock with an illegal switch installed, say police. He also apparently had a schedule three controlled substance, marijuana, and oxycodone, plus the stolen vehicle's key. Needless to say, he's facing a list of charges.
The passengers, Jayden Hastings and Brianna Watkins, both 18, were hit with charges for possession of a controlled substance with the intent to manufacture/deliver/sell plus theft of property.
What's curiously not mentioned by Memphis Police is the Porsche 911. We think had they recovered it they would've mentioned that, but instead there's not a peep about it in the report. Maybe they're hot on the trail of who has it now, or so we hope.
Just remember, even at a car dealership you need to keep your guard up. Car thieves are everywhere.

New details in fatal Union Avenue wreck: alleged drunk driver was underage

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — 17 News has long examined a signature issue we call Kern's Sober Reality. The reality is that too many people still drink and drive — often with deadly consequences. The latest case in point, a fiery crash Tuesday night in central Bakersfield that left one person dead and two others seriously injured. The collision was caught on camera just after 11:30 p.m. Tuesday night, at the intersection of Union and East California avenues. A white BMW headed northbound on Union Avenue ran a red light and crashed into a Dodge Charger that was headed westbound on East California on a green light. The crash left the 27-year-old driver of the Charger dead. BPD confirmed with 17 News all three involved were men — the driver of the BMW — who was moderately injured — is 19; the passenger — in unstable condition — is 20. Detectives said both remain in the hospital. 'The driver of the Dodge was pinned inside the vehicle, so officers would've had to wait for fire department personnel to arrive,' said Sgt. Joshua Deutinger, with the BPD traffic division. The BMW crashed into the fence next to San Joaquin Tractor Company, narrowly missing the business, and caught fire. First responders and passerbys rushed to distance them from the car. 'With how north they came from the intersection and the separation of those cars, it definitely speaks to the speed that was involved in the collision,' Sgt. Deutinger noted. In addition to speeding, underage drinking and driving under the influence is suspected by the 19-year-old in the BMW. 1 arrested on Chester Lane after barricaded subject forces SWAT callout: police The sergeant said toxicology results aren't yet available. He also said the deceased driver of the Charger likely was not speeding, nor driving impaired. The speed limit out is 40 miles-per-hour in the area of the wreck. An employee told 17 News speeding and running red lights in this area is not uncommon. 'Usually in that intersection, if there is a major injury crash, a lot of times, speed does have to do with that,' the sergeant said. Chris Hagan with the local law firm, Chain Cohn Clark agreed. 'Union [Avenue] is heavily travelled by pedestrians…and so, we do see a lot of automobiles versus pedestrian fatals on Union,' said Hagan. Hagan detailed that in 2024, there were 37 DUI-related deaths and 731 DUI-related injuries in Kern County. 'In Kern County, we have the highest arrest record in the nation for drivers who are under the influence,' Hagan said of the local severity of driving impaired. 'You are more likely to be involved in a DUI collision in Kern County as compared to virtually any other city or any other county in the nation.' 'Whip/Nae Nae' child star pleads guilty but mentally ill, gets 30 years for cousin's death

'Whip/Nae Nae' child star pleads guilty but mentally ill, gets 30 years for cousin's death The "Watch Me (Whip/Nae Nae)" rapper, 27-year-old Silentó, has been sentenced to 30 years in prison after pleading guilty to the 2021 death of his cousin. According to court records reviewed by USA TODAY, the musical artist, whose real name is Ricky Lamar Hawk, on June 11 pleaded guilty but mentally ill to four charges: voluntary manslaughter – a reduced charge from his initial malice murder count – aggravated assault, possession of a firearm during a felony crime, and concealing the death of his cousin, 34-year-old Frederick Rooks III. Voluntary manslaughter came with a 20-year prison sentence, while the firearm possession and concealment of death counts entail five years each. Hawk has been in jail since his February 2021 arrest. On Jan. 21, 2012, DeKalb County Police officers responded to a call in Panthersville, Georgia, about 10 miles southeast of Atlanta. Per police, Rooks was found with multiple gunshot wounds and ten bullet casings near him. Hawk was arrested Feb. 1, 2021, after one of Rooks' family members told officers he was last seen with Hawk on a drive back from a friend's house. They were in a white BMW SUV that matched one seen in security footage. Hawk allegedly admitted to shooting Rooks in an interview with police. The prior year, he was charged while living in Southern California for allegedly threatening two people with a hatchet. He'd been on bail after a recent arrest. According to the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office, Hawk "walked into an unlocked stranger's home" and attempted to strike the two people in the home with a hatchet before one of them managed to disarm him." The case is ongoing. Who is Ricky Lamar Hawk, the rapper Silentó? As a 17-year-old high schooler, Hawk integrated the "whip" and "nae nae" dances into the 2015 hit "Watch Me (Whip/Nae Nae)," which spent 51 weeks on the Billboard Top 100 after its release. It peaked at No. 3. He went on to release a few albums, including a March 2021 record called "Bars Behind Bars" that came out while he was incarcerated. Amid his viral success, Hawk told USA TODAY in 2015, "It was an awesome opportunity making this song and having it where I can go back to school, and people can just be like, 'Wow, you did it.'"
